Yeah, I'm afraid so. The pid switches a relay on and off, the coil is on the mains side of the relay and the pid itself is usually an international device changing local power to low voltage DC and is on the other side of the relay.

Yes, the coil itself runs off the local mains power and needs to be compatible. As far as what happens, I'm not 100 percent certain more than it won't work... I think a 220v coil will run but not correctly on 110v but the other way around will fry the coil.
