Havent tried "tab up" insertion of the disc. Tab "down" creates the Air Gap to enhance overall even extraction of bowl. I also have Removed the lil Mini Screen. I clean mine with Everclear, then dish detergent, rinse with water, then shake out water remnants then dry in microwave. Comes out sparkling clean. Talking about fixed glass screen Ice Stem. Havent used a metal basket screen since getting the glass screen stem over a year ago.
