I think of 14mm as "pinky sized hole" and 18mm as "thumb sized hole". Also since it's the Glass 101 thread I'll just state the obvious, 18mm female and 14mm male are both easily turned into 14mm female and 18mm male respectively using just a low-pro 18-14 reducer.

The Fab pieces (Str8, FTK, egg etc.) are prone to building up claim because of the large surface area. Honeycomb percs are prone to clogging a couple holes with claim but it doesn't impair function. A 4 hole jet was one of the best percs for concentrates IME.
