You might feel it but you definitely won't hear it. In loud environments I just count to five (using a triple flame torch) and inhale. If I need a bit more heat, I'll torch for another two count, then inhale again. Repeat as necessary.

+1 Using q-tips on a warm CU does a nice job. I try to do it daily but it's usually every 2-3 days. If you can't get q-tips you can use a rag or tissue but q-tips are easier to handle. edit add - here's the video @shredder referenced

Some folks use electric nut or coffee grinders. I've used a hand-crank nut grinder for years. Much easier to use than the twist-style grinders IMHO.

I've read (somewhere around here) that a Simple Green soak removes labels. I've never tried it, though.
