Hot water after an iso soak should be just fine to clean the ELBs IME. The heated alcohol probably would achieve similar results, I'm guessing. I usually end up soaking mine overnight but it can be an hour or two easily. Then a hot water rinse has them like new. Those little test-tube brushes...

I have only found disadvantages to trying to vape nugs rather than grinding and I now stay between noon and 2:00 to avoid combustion. It happened to me twice at 3:00 and I have found that it was pretty unnecessary to go that high after testing 2:00. I still get a full extraction.
