It's similar to the polymerized oils smell of hot cast iron, I'd assume it's caused by small amounts of oil from your hands on the cap.

I don't have any performance issues with half-packing (or less) in the Air. Some people use dome screens for that but I haven't found it to be necessary. Don't see why that wouldn't be the same in the ArGo.

@droog77 That intake looks pretty standard to me. What's your flame length? The 1" flame length they recommend is best for learning, but it can be hard to get smaller hits with consistently at first. I think people over-estimate how much technique you can learn watching videos.
