Did those batteries say Made in China?

I have had mine fail to turn on when clicked and turn off in the middle of a hit a couple times. I have not ruled out an old battery as the cause. I have noticed that the threads on the back end will get dirty just like the OG and make the lights flash even with a good battery.

Is yours a 74x? If I am getting your description right yours sounds like an SR-71. I was thinking only the 71 had the friction contacts and newer models had the spring and pin.

I think you have things backwards. This was a Hercules heating rod for the Triton. There is no way that will work with a Herc.

I ahould have at least one 601 bottom piece. Is that all you need to fix one you already have?

Are you looking for a 510 thread or 601 thread unit? I may be able to dig up enough pieces to put together a 601 thread Herc. I know I don’t have the mesh wick though. I need some of them myself.
