The Bud Toaster - (currently: Model 14, version 3)

no, the earlier iterations are stashed in boxes scattered around my work shop/office ... every time i move a box in the basement, or open a cabinet door in the house, i find a cube (or three) of old, older, oldest iterations ... and they will remain in their respective boxes - none of the...

    Experiences with $200+/- PID Controllers

thanks. i may have to try this, but first i will try to get the full PID to work. i have the parameters in a table, so tuning is simple - not using Arduino or C to do the programming, so simple algorithm changes are not so simple. my PID is $45 ... $20 for the custom pcb and $25 for components.

The Bud Toaster - (currently: Model 14, version 3)

well, it's official ... i'm out of my mind ... Latest iteration: Model 15, Version 1 This is the bottom of the pcb: changes: Deans plug soldered directly to the board; symmetrical placement of the two buttons; MOSFET moved to this side of the pcb - otherwise, it's the same as m14v3 Here...

    Experiences with $200+/- PID Controllers

@jojo monkey - i appreciate the PID links. i'm back working on my PID algorithm for the latest iteration of my Bud Toaster ... i need to tame the startup overshoot and too aggressive recovery during a draw. the current algorithm was tuned for a nichrome wire coil and the ribbon coil is less...

    Oldest vaporizers

i think i passed @lwien in March when i turned 70. BT may count as being old - it started 17 years ago.

The Bud Toaster - (currently: Model 14, version 3)

@Raf007 - thanks for the vibes. i was just tonight checking the printout of the pcb layout, tried to position the Deans plug against the pcb, and damn! realized i had left off a pad on the top of the pcb. quick online chat with pcb company, they put my order on hold, i uploaded the corrected...

I have a killer design for a vaporizor, now where do I go?

so, no working prototype? how do you know it will work?

The Bud Toaster - (currently: Model 14, version 3)

so, after 4 years of using this implementation of the Bud Toaster, it is back to the drawing board! ... a couple of failure modes to design out and some changes for manufacturing ease. plus, the BBQ thermometer has a 1.5v cell battery - only lasts a year (well, i use it 8 times a day), so grab...

Light Box Vaporizer design and build thread (formerly B1)

the Jameco looks really complicated ... lots and lots of parts (150+ parts? wtf?) ... and big! ... 1.5A is barely enough for vaping. in my case, PID is a solved problem. i like the responsiveness of 18+A.

Discontinued Custom Crafty Battery Packs for Easy Replacement

yeah, me too! quick search shows $90 on AliExpress with $50 shipping ... but i'm not ready to commit yet, other projects have priority. please keep us updated with your progress/results ... maybe a new thread?

    100% Decarb With The NOVA

the inner silicone cap (covers the aluminum herb container) smells ... i stopped using it and replaced it with a cap made of aluminum foil. not much odor from the herb during or after decarboxylation.

You cant trust concentrates these days

i don't know how bad it really is ... from Wikipedia: and: i suppose there will always be some lipids in the vapor, even from the herb ... however, it must be much more concentrated in a rosin ... i know my QWET yields just shy of 10%, without too much lipids extracted ... so i guess the...

    Dabpress Rosin Plates

yes ... dissolve in small amount of ethanol, freeze to solidify the waxes, push through a syringe filter to strain out the wax. i'm still trying to catch up on this tech. i think i want to decarboxylate before i squish.

    Dabpress Rosin Plates

@psychonaut - do you ever try to remove the wax from the squish?

    Lizard Brain Vape

i had a super hot MOSFET until someone schooled me on how to read the data sheet: i re-spec'd the MOSFET and raised the gate voltage to 4.5v and now it stays at room temperature ... my heater ribbon is .3 ohm with a 2S power pack, so pulling about 20 amps ... it gets to 400F in about 15...

    Vape Temp Profile Charts

@Stu - another temp probe is needed - add one in the middle of the herb ... looks like convection to me.
