still too early to really say, but I read an article yesterday that said the lung tissue of 7 (I think) cases looked like chemical burns you'd get from breathing fumes at a toxic fire. based on everything I've read, somebody introduced Chinese-made tainted vitamin E acetate oil, possibly in LA...

I think it's a mix of well-intended people trying to figure out what's going on (medical professionals) and people who don't really know much if anything about vaping. the second group's hardly surprising; 'vaping' can mean very different things, from e-cigs to dry herb vaping to THC cartridges...

from the article: “It seems to be some kind of direct chemical injury, similar to what one might see with exposures to toxic chemical fumes, poisonous gases and toxic agents,” said Dr. Brandon Larsen, a surgical pathologist at Mayo Clinic Arizona and a lead author of the study. “Based on what we...

my guess would be that this pesticide isn't the culprit for what's going on. if a pesticide that's been in use for a long time was the cause, the syndrome/disease would've shown up before. maybe it was going on but people didn't see the pattern - but I doubt it. I suspect NBC just happened upon...

maybe they're getting closer to figuring this out.... "Recreational marijuana use is legal and regulated in California. In recent months, tighter restrictions have made THC oil increasingly scarce on the black market, industry experts said. THC oil can cost between $5,000 and $7,000 per...

But officials have said they suspect...

it hardly needs to be said, but (IMHO) people are going to have to withhold judgment until the researchers (doctors, epidemiologists, etc.) have a chance to figure out what's going on. frustrating for sure (and scary), but you can't come up with a good policy fix (e.g. a ban) if you don't know...

from the article: re vitamin e acetate "its molecular structure could make it hazardous when inhaled, and officials said it could be associated with the kinds of respiratory symptoms that many patients have reported: cough, shortness of breath and chest pain" it'd be nice if they explained this...

it sounds like the investigators are plenty aware that people might be reluctant to admit to behavior that's illegal in many states, but this is potentially a case of mass poisoning by contaminated products being openly sold - I don't think people withholding information will prevent...

definitely still early in the investigation. I excerpted those quotes b/c they seem to be pointing towards what might be a common denominator: vaporizing nicotine or THC oil. given how long people have been vaporizing both, and the severity of what's going on, my guess would be that it's not...

the findings are preliminary; the culprit might be something else, or a combination of factors. I read in the coverage of this that vaporized oils can revert back to oil when they cool - and that oil in the lungs is very bad juju. this makes sense to me (non-scientist that I am...). I imagine...

just speculating here, but assuming this hasn't been going on unnoticed for a while there's some new factor behind these cases - maybe an additive. it sounds like the investigators have yet to identify a common denominator but it's hard to imagine they're not gathering data. @invertedisdead is...

vaping's a pretty recent phenomenon so there isn't much (any?) in the way of clinical studies. inhaling vapor is almost certainly preferable to inhaling smoke, but it'll be a while before anyone can say with 100% confidence that it's harmless; it's not hard to believe that the people you see...

the mighty isn't fussy about grind so (IMHO) you can go with pretty much anything - even the plastic one that comes with. you get perfect avb without capsules too, never have to stir. I've yet to hear about an all-convection vape that doesn't need stirring or rotating the bowl.
