The auto-magic super rZToaster, or something like that..

@KeroZen yeah I didn't want to deal with BMS design yet, and ordered this 15A with balance. 2 months and it hasn't arrived yet so even if it worked and I designed around it I'd have to wait months for more and TBH I like this design phase even if its frustrating I'm learning a lot so will keep...

The auto-magic super rZToaster, or something like that..

Grr. it looks like most of the protection ICs that I've seen that are available in small quantities and have over-current protection are at or below 0.3 cell voltage drop. My 2S pack drops about 1v at 10A at full duty cycle. I could probably blame 0.1~0.2v on my poly fuse, and that still leaves...

The auto-magic super rZToaster, or something like that..

@KeroZen correct. The MP2639A does not do any balancing. In fact, I couldn't find ANY 2S chargers that incorporate balancing, and IIRC, none of the multi-cell charger ICs that I encountered even integrate balancing. It seems that balancing is left to the monitoring and protection ICs. However...

The auto-magic super rZToaster, or something like that..

Some technical rant... I've had a bit of a development bump around battery connection / protection but think I'm honing in on a solution. I apparently don't want to burn my house down, nor anyone else's, so battery protection is paramount and I've been thinking about it a lot. At first I was...

The auto-magic super rZToaster, or something like that..

So.. still (too?)busy with life/work, but I've managed to make some slow progress, an hour or two here and there. I've been fiddling a lot with the design. I managed to find an orientation that I like and ended up putting the microcontroller back on the board, so not so modularized, but keeping...

Thanks for those vibes @pxl_jockey, every bit helps :) Also thanks to ALL you other followers!! If it weren't for you, I'd still just be rocking my V0.001 over the next few years! My three monkeys are doing well. Little one is recovering like a champ:rockon: It's been a bit hard to find the...

VapCap Induction Heater for Desktop and in Car Use

@Lorsch if this is the right switch, it looks like you need the switch between the positive input and trig/PWM. Looks like you're already connected to trig. Now the button's red lead should go to Vin+.

I added a bit more capacitance. now at ~1uF. I get 5A with 5V supply with an inserted Vapcap, which heats to click in about 20 seconds~30 seconds from cold. This would be with a (worst case) flat battery pack. I'm going to up capacitance to 1.3uF, which will improve it even more. With a nominal...

Ah! That's important! It's a glass sphere. It works really well as a magnifying glass. I mostly use it to check solder joints and my buddies :) (Mod note: I was playing with img embed on my post above and the images are not doubled. too late to edit now. plz fix tnx tnx)

The auto-magic super rZToaster, or something like that..

sooo..... I managed to play a little here and there over the last few days :D (post may be a bit a little technical..) When I first got a chance, I continued building up on the board I had started on already. The board with the OLED, buttons, and IR sensor. I added voltage regulators, gate...

My kids surgery went well! And.... My parts arrived! :D:D:D (almost, minus an item I mixed up during my component selection. ponied up to get it via local supplier, should be here soon.. I have enough to start building in the meantime.) We still have a busy few weeks ahead but that...

The auto-magic super rZToaster, or something like that..

OK, so my logistics setback should be solved soon. I should finally have my parts to build up the first prototype PCBs in about a week! :) However, my kids surgery is in two weeks, so.. not sure when I'll get to build it. A step in the right direction at least. All will be well in good time...

VapCap Induction Heater for Desktop and in Car Use

<2c>Use case is key here. The units are not driven for extended periods (minutes, tens of minutes..). IMHO, The battery heat generated in the 10 seconds here or there that the unit is actually active is negligible, and the difference between different batteries even more so. The unit doesn't...

Tnx @toofluff , and welcome to FC! :) Dirty PCB looks good. I checked out a few places. PCBway worked out well for this specific order (I only need 2~3 boards at this stage of proto, with some upgrades like LEAD-free. So far my BOM is all ROHS except for maybe the OLED.). I still don't have...

The auto-magic super rZToaster, or something like that..

My PID tuning was lacking at the time, and it was a good way to limit the temperature increase rate. Since then I've found that PID tuning and max duty cycle gave me the rate limiting I wanted. This is regarding how fast/slow it gets to a set temperature, and it'll just keep it there till you...

The auto-magic super rZToaster, or something like that..

I currently have three power settings and two modes. The power settings are currently a cap on duty cycle (percentage of time that the Induction Heater is actually powered on). Each power mode has it's own PID setting to compensate for the behaviour after fiddling a bit. It's kind of like using...

The auto-magic super rZToaster, or something like that..

Nope didn't miss anything on this slow boat. I'm still a few hardware iterations away from anything I'd send out. I still need to build and test my first (ever) PCB design, along with a bunch of relevant experiments on the first board. Then will hopefully be able to finalize form factor and...

The auto-magic super rZToaster, or something like that..

Technically possible, though a little more cumbersome wiring needed since the IR sensor needs a few extra conductors. Also, since the whole thing may end up a bit smaller than a portside, I'm less inclined to thinking of breaking it up. The 'bulk' of the design is the coil and capacitors -...

The auto-magic super rZToaster, or something like that..

Tnx. No idea on price yet. I have chosen some good component$ and I'm still prototyping some features.. haven't even thought of final form factor (I may get it working well with just two batteries, for instance). So, a little more than the M ;) I think once I have my printed PCBs working I'll...
