That does seem weird. I haven't used on-demand mode enough to observe this though. If it's any consolation I have tried hitting the solo in on-demand mode before the bars reach the absolute top. Usually I'll start on the bar before the top. Everything still works great... maybe a bit tastier.

I think this (resurrected!) desktop is underrated and could replace your EVO. See this thread. For a portable, some good candidates have been mentioned. I like hybrids as well but if it must be convection then TM2, Angus Enhanced, S3 (on-demand) are possible fits. Have a look at Vapor Halogen...

I always try and use the Solo inverted so you won't have this problem. I suggest using the WPA and a dry pipe like a sherlock. Better cooling, no worry about material falling into the heater and better taste overall. The Solo can be a great microdoser that preserves taste.
