Could you use a strip of cork instead of an o-ring? i'm assuming the o-ring does not seal but is just there to prevent the two glass pieces from hitting each other- as I cannot see any other air hole?

Yes, that should help if people can't get a deeper coil. Also included in the package I'm offering is a thing to adjust the fit of the injector in the coil and facilitate heating!
