'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

Getting close to a viable unit now, mate  And none of it would have been possible without this thread :clap::) @FlyHi I've got several pages of A4 covered in notes and sketches to help with this process of log construction. Nearly all of it taken from this thread. Pretty much...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

Got the heater cover finished today which meant that all components were ready for final assembly into a working log. That washer down there came with the jack plug connector. I put it in the vice and squashed it to a better size. Not the most elegant example of craftmanship I know, but...

H FlyHi Great to hear that you're doin' the DIY jive  (to the music of KC and the Sunshine Band according to @ubardog ):D Here's the wire I'm using. The site offers a range of diameters - I went for the 0.9mm. But I guess bloke will be along soon to advise you on that and also on the ss...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

Yea, I'll certainly use the higher temp solder. Anything that adds to safety and durability has got to be better. Heater position is straightforward and single 9mm tube is likewise. Thanks on that  I'm still scouring the internet for suitable ss tubing. Very little 9mm out there...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

How about... Manfred Mann - Blinded by the Light. 1977. "I'll turn you on son, to something strong..." Or anything by ELO ?? A previous attempt to build a desktop vape about four years ago, sadly, did not end in success. The heat source on that project was a halogen bulb. However, it's an...

Thanks for the info, bloke  A longer leg on one side for coiling around the resistor makes good sense. It does look bit short. Possibly more spacing between the coils too, to make it a bit thinner? Lucky I only bought 50cm of that solder and not a whole spool. Thanks for the link. I'll...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

The new solder arrived so watched Tom PD's vid and a couple of others. Practiced on some spare wire first then soldered the extension wire to the resistor. Yet another new skill this project has taught me :) It's not shown in the photo but there's now 7cm of wire on one side and...

Got 3 x 30cm lengths of oak from this site on ebay - enough for about nine stems. They do say "un-sanded" and they ain't joking :o My advice is don't handle them without gloves until you've given them a good sanding. Bought some of that silver plated copper wire that you mentioned in an...

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

Oak 12.5mm (1/2 inch) doweling rods arrived yesterday so I drilled out an 8cm length. Countersunk at one end by 1cm with the 8mm bit to hold a ss tip. Very difficult to centre and drill accurately down the middle - but if you photo it from the right angle you can almost disguise that ;)...

@ubardog still working on an answer to your question.. Yep, Bloke's picture is closer to the real colour of the oak unit. Took it down the beach this afternoon for a glamour shot :) Cloudy day with flat light doesn't manage to convey the richness of the wood tone, tho. Clearly, I'll...

My faithful OG Firefly (and only portable) is more than 3.5 years old and needs gently easing off into retirement :myday: so this M2G option for those 'away missions' is looking very attractive  * sigh*.. looks like my to-do list just got a bit longer :D.

'The Misty Log' - DIY wooden Log Vaporizer

Wongs are high on my to do list. But this is the bit that I find difficult: Misty took a tumble about a week ago. Got dropped and the heater cover came loose. The unit was still perfectly functional... but it did rattle :\ Bloke advised me on repairs so I got to work :o Removed the...
