Oh crazy! You've gotta have a wealth of stories and experience! I'm practicing in Fairbanks, Alaska. Our ER is only currently listed as a level 4 trauma center. Whereabouts did you practice?

9 years later he responds LOL. I read your post about chronic insomnia in the Cannabreak thread and thought “...that name is familiar.” I worked for 3 years on a VAMC locked psych unit after graduating college with a BA Psych. VA sent me to nursing school and I worked 6 momnths MedSurg than transferred to the ICU where I worked for almost 3 years, then 1 year in the ED, and 2 years in the CCU.

Then I transferred to another local hospital - Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, Ca where I worked in ICU and Cardiac Surveillance for 12 years. In ’95 I went to work as the first Nursing Informatics nurse supporting every computer system used by nurses from the Acuity system in Nursing Administration to the systems used in the ED, ICU, MedSurg, Oncology, Peds and L&D.

I had to learn DOS, Widows, Mac, Linux, and interfaces. I spent the last 10 years of my worklife building, teaching, supporting EPIC for docs and nurses in the ICU and the ED at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame, Ca.

I retired in 2014.I too have dealt with intermittent insomnia over the years. But since rediscoveing cannabis in 2014 a few months before I retired I’ve managed to be only an occassional user of pharmaceutical sleep agents. I’m a daily low dose user. .05g a day MOL. I grow in my back yard as I’m in a legal state and every once in awhile purchase gummies, concentrates, and ocassionally an 1/8 of bud

Most of my tolerance breaks are because of traveling abroad the first 6 years of retirement. Since Covid we haven’t travelled nearly as much and I’ve had some other health issues, and recently spent 12 days in a MedSurg unit after a small bowel blockage that required surgical excision of 7” and re-anastomosis.

I find that I sleep fine the first few nights, then have wild and crazy dreams for a few nights, require ambient or something. But after 10 days or so I’m sleeping fairly normally. I still wake up with a recurrent nightmare where I’m working on a unit that's crazy busy, forget to give meds on time, can’t find the paper charts, the halls are crowded with visitors
