I'm curious how many people know about the "buy, borrow, die" strategy

Buy expensive assets like stock, real estate, or artwork

Borrow money using the assets as collateral. Live off of the borrowed money.

Die... and utilize friendly tax policy to transfer the assets to heirs who don't have to pay capital gains taxes

I have a different policy that includes Die as a solution to this problem, but you Libs won't like it, so I suggest closing this loophole ASAP :brow:

So, I've totally flipped my opinion this week on sending bombs to Israel! I feel like it is a bit too late for Germany to be stopping arms to Israel. Mostly all the weapons they provided would have been the areal bombs etc they used to carpet bomb the place. Now they are continuing the war mostly by land so they likely will not need the arms Germany where providing.

I do not think Germany care much as if they did they would have stopped providing the weapons long ago and this is no more than a PR stunt to make out like Germany care.

So now 500 people have been arrested for protesting. 110 of these people are over 70 and 15 of them are over 80 years of age. Most who got arrested were not even part of the action group and where just there as they heard it was a protest, most of them were OAP (old age pensioners) sorry not most 25% to be accurate.

This is the police that are reporting this information and they say that mos of the 500 arrested went straight back to protesting as they got releses same day and police were told not to re arrest people as that was a waste of time.

When I heard this I wondered why so many elderly people where there but this is common with protests and old people often get mixed up in it just for company while others am sure joined as they know what going on is wrong.

The police over here want nothing to do with this but are told to arrest so many by higher up police so they have to do it.

There is no question that democracy is a use it or lose it form of government. I worry that we may have already lost it, but I will continue to fight. And I will never accept fascism. I am an old man now with little power and influence and all I can do is argue for what is right. But I'm not gonna shut up.

I wish people were still up to make leaders shorter (not by much, just a head). But honestly I see so much indulgence within the general population that I fear were up to another Roman Empire... I won't probably see it fall, neither my daughter, I just hope this one will be less long.

You're right. I thought of it when writing my previous post.
There are certainly places on earth that will still be livable. Life will adapt of course, but probably also a few lucky mammals, including humans. Let's hope that they won't turn anthropocentric neither fascists ultimately...
