My relationship with cannabis has been so odd. I love it, it tends to love me too, but my tolerance has caught up with me many times. As a smoker, it was nigh on impossible and very very rare that I would be able to make it a full 24 hours without smoking. In fact, it was hard for me to not even go 12 hours, I was a 2 times a day minimum smoker who sometimes went for 3 times a day. From 2013 to 2025, I probably only had less than 10 times (in twelve years) that I succeeded at waiting a full day to not smoke.

Since quitting smoking a month ago, going into DHV, now using way way less herb than ever before, and something has changed for me. Last week I challenged myself to only have a single dosing capsule (~0.15g) once daily, with at least 24 hours inbetween each pack. By the grace of God alone I succeeded at stretching one gram across that week and now I see that waiting once every 24 hours, at this lower dose and with vaping as my main method, makes it so I don't have the compulsive urge to use. While I do like the freedom to sometimes vape twice a day, I now have a new routine that involves:

- Three times a week, I wait 24+ hours inbetween vape bowls
- Two times a week, I wait 18+ hours inbetween vape bowls
- Two times a week, I let myself enjoy vaping whenever I want, with a maximum cap of 0.35g for the day

I never thought I'd have a lifestyle where I use this little cannabis and am satisfied, but lo and behold, here I am. I am still coughing up huge amounts of tar and ash so I'm not even recovered yet from post-combustion symptoms, but I feel so satisfied now like this. It got me wondering, how often do people here manage to go 24+ hours inbetween their vape sessions? As someone who has done it 10 times in the last two weeks, who COULDN'T do it 10 times in the previous twelve years, I consider DHV to be the physiological reason as to why this is now possible.

I'm starting to enjoy waiting until later times to vape. Because the potency feels like it hits me harder and lasts longer, it almost destabilizes me to try and vape too early. Many times I started projects at 12pm, vaped at 12:30pm, and before I know it it's 5pm and I've spent the day doing other things than the original task. Glad to see that 0.35g seems to be a sweet spot for more than just me (as low as even 0.1g gets me nice and stoned from certain strains). I originally thought I was gonna make 0.5g my daily limit but it feels like overkill in terms of preserving that sweet tolerance.

Hey, great topic. I've had a somewhat similar journey as you coming from smoking joints.

I've often wondered what it is about DHV that seems to make it easier to moderate usage vs. smoking. One could argue that it's the subtraction of pyrolytic compounds that can be addictive (PAHs, carbon monoxide) with the lack of combustion. Or could it be additional terpenes and other plant oils that are better preserved in vapor vs. smoke, or some combination of both of these things?

These days I still vape every day but I've been trending down from a longtime average of 0.5g/day to about 0.35g/day. I take forced breaks for vacations mostly and don't notice withdrawal symptoms. I think quitting coffee for a while would be far worse.

I do think that having a very efficient DHV is essential if microdosing and moderating your tolerance is your goal.

0.1g properly vaped in a ball vape will go much farther than 0.1g vaped in a cheap conduction vape for example.

I've been wondering about bioavailability in the lungs on inhalation, because every day as I cough up more tar, I can feel my lung capacity returning to levels from 2013-14. I feel younger, it's so strange. But more than that, when I vaporize marijuana after a month of no smoke, I definitely can tell I've been getting gradually higher and higher. At first I assumed it was the amount itself but now I'm wondering if smoking marijuana just makes it so that our lungs barely even get to uptake the psychoactivity of it as much as when our lungs and cilia are coated with all that extra nonsense from the benzene to the carbon monoxide...

I also notice very curiously that, when I'd smoke a bowl in the "olden days" (so funny to refer to the last 12 years until July 2025 as this but hey, it is what it is!), I would get almost all of my high from the first two hits, and the remaining hits were just "something to do". I would be at peak high by around minute 5 when I'd smoke, and getting higher mostly just felt like lightheadedness. With vaporizing, it's been so different in that I have a 6-minute session (or two sessions back-to-back with about a three minute interim between, so 15 minutes total), but deep down I don't start to get peak high feelings until about the 15-20 minute marker. On one strain, I felt "disappointed" with the effects for the first 20 minutes, then before I knew it, whoosh it's an hour later and I'm eating everything in the kitchen and producing tunes, totally vibing out. The delayed effect has me quite curious, and in some cases I feel like it'll be 4 or 5 hours later and I still have that little "buzz" going, where with smoking I was lucky if I felt ANYTHING by hour 3.

I also noticed a big difference between my cheap conduction Miqro-C versus my also cheap but fairly higher-quality convection Lobo. Considering that both of them are cheap in that 100-150$ range, I am losing my mind with excitement at the possibility of investing in a ball vape for later this year/next year.

Actually, I might recommend a good log vape before even making the jump to a ball vape. They are less expensive in general but are super efficient and excellent for microdosing.

Underdog, Woodscents, Toasty Top, GTR, E-nanoXL etc...

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
I said a few times a week, but now thinking of it, probably never. I vape mostly in the evenings, but usually start with a bowl after getting home from work, which is late afternoon. Then 1-2 more bowls through the night, thus never is there a 24 hour span, probably 20 hour spans, but there are 15 minute spans also

Of course, all bets are off on vacations and weekends.

Or aim at a small (anti?) ball vape like the Phase3 XV or the Vapvana Pinch Hitter (which I think has been replaced by something newer).

Yeah the lobo is not even pure convection, more hybrid session, compared to the more pure conduction mIQro, plus their power differential is what you are feeling the most probably... Yeah something like a log is more pure convection, you probably don't need to go up to a ball vape, unless you want that specifically... And there are plenty of pure convection on demand portables now too
