New England - Recommendations

FlyingLow

Team NO SLEEP!
Planning a fall trip through weed-friendly New England, from Boston to Maine.

I have no familiarity with the recreational scene in these parts, can you all please post up your favorite brands for concentrates and flower?
All feedback is most appreciated and well received!

@FlyingLow Generally people will tell you to stock up in Maine versus Massachusetts. Maine has less requirements so smaller growers can put out higher quality at lower prices (in general!) I highly recommend checking out the reddit communities BeantownTrees and mainetrees. You'll find tons of recommendations and reviews. (Avoid bostontrees, it's just a marketing front.)

Definitely worth springing for a med card if you can, as you'll get access to the best quality in Maine (and they take out of state cards.) But not a 100% necessity. Rosin in Maine is top tier. I don't do concentrates so can't speak to specific growers. As to flower, Braveboat, Bungludetch Farms, Woodstock Farmacy, Firefly Organics and Mentation are all amazing. Also had good luck with Tastefully Baked.

For MA, there is a lot more crap on the market. Good brands right now are Bountiful Farms, Native Sun, Harbor House Collective (if you go to their location in Chelsea), and Tower Three. People tend to agree that Bountiful has the best rosin in the state. They are also doing some interesting flower strains lately. Worth a trip out there for sure!

Nature's Heritage has been good to me in MA also. Never had a bad jar from them. It's been a little while since the last time I bought from a dispensary though. Like Ariwe said, Maine's market is generally considered much better.

you specifically said recreational, so firefly and gele are popular ones for flower.

I didnt get around to looking into rec side for concentrates because I decided to get a med card after learning alot of the popular cultivators are medical only because of over regulation on rec.

Does your state have a medical program ? I did a short telehealth phone call with a physician, it was $45. In my state they email you a PDF and thats your card.

I was just in maine for a few days, if you go the med route I could recomend some strains/cultivators /dispensaries.

What area of Maine are you staying in ?

I have purchase out of state in NJ and Rhode Island. I mostly purchase in MD so that is the basis of comparison for me. NJ in general is more expensive than i am used to , but there are things that i have not seen in MD. So i am mostly looking for unique strains. I did find on my most recent trip that all the "deals" require a larger purchase, so i found some Rhythm OMG for a good price on a half (better than anything i have seen locally)

Rhode Island was also really good, Found a variety of stuff and prices reasonable. Lot of options

The place i didn't have time to visit was Maine! From what i can see online best prices and top notch stuff.

I did not stop in CT or Mass as nothing really of interest and prices uniformly high (6 months ago). New York is another one i have not tried as i could not find a place that was on the way. But i have some notes from people who are from NY and next time perhaps i will find something as it seems market is changing.

In NY all the AUCC(adult use conditional cultivators) arent allowed to grow indoor. These are all the small farms through out NYS.

The RSO/MSOs(RYTHM, Find,MATTER) were allowed to come into the rec market 1 yr after legalization. They are allowed to grow indoor.

Forcing the AUCC holders to grow outside led to moldy weed. Also lack of dispensaries (due to delays granting permits from the state)made the stuff sit around.

NYS had to scrap testing requirements for rec program so you can buy 'tested' stuff that wouldnt be allowed to sell in other states. Essentially by design NY state regulators gave an advantage to corporate cannabis and screwed over the small farmers...

RSO/MSO (<< If you aren't familiar with the acronym,Think 'Corporate cannabis') reigns supreme here in NY.We dont have small craft cannabis farms growing amazing stuff in NY.

Ive heard great things about Rythm and have tryed alot of decent stuff from MSOs in my home state of NY but its nice to go to maine with a med card to experience a diffrent scene.

thanks for sharing all that. I hadn't heard a lot about NY market except the proliferation of non-licensed outlets. You're right not the best approach. In MD at least they preach social equity and i know they have tried somewhat. Not perfect but ....

in my experience Rythm and their parent company GTI have come up with a really good growing system. It seems to be paying off. Most of the GTI products have been pretty good. In MD we do have a number of brands of native MD companies Grow West and Evermore and i do try and support those

Yeah definitely a bit of a mouthful, kind of an un educated/ trust me bro take to just say "NY is total bust." Its a little nuanced, and requires some back story but my TLDR point is if MSO is the best NY has to offer then just get it closer to home.

Just to put it into perspective; In maine they have 14g baller jars of live resin for the same price as a single gram in NY!

Maine is fantastic, Awseome craft beer scene aswell.
