Hey @Dejan LimelightHerb

The description says: Body materials Ultem (PEI), PEEK. The oven is also made of peek? Not ceramic?

The documentation on the website says the bowl is stainless steel. There's lots of good info over there. I checked out the manual (which is still obviously being worked on) and I love the fact that the exact specifications for all the O-rings are listed. It's the little things... 🙂

oh thx then i must have overlooked that.

I had looked at the website on my cell phone yesterday. I agree with you 100% about the little things.

the heater is stainless steel
What is the grade of stainless steel? Where is the unit manufactured? The device comply with European regulations? Are there tests in approved laboratories or do you do them yourself? Can you tell us more about it? 🙏

Am I nuts or is this sounding like a more portable version of the Tafee Bowle
For me it looks more like a Tinymight with a S&B Mighty cooling unit and an YLL Aerolite/TM design

It's interesting  I wish you all the best @Dejan LimelightHerb!

Hey, what do you have against my user manual 😂. This took me out actually when I read it because the only thing that's 100% completed on the website is the user manual.

A big thanks to both of you, means a lot that people notice these things and that the effort has not been in vain.

...the manual says it's aluminium.
*the heater is stainless steel.
Yes, correct. A very good point here actually as I have overlooked pointing these important facts out clearly.

The oven is 6000 series aluminum and it has been hard anodized so it's non-stick and this process tempers the aluminum so the surface becomes really hard, up to 70 rockwells.

This brings me to another thing. For each aspect of this device, I have gone through quite a bit of experimenting before implementing anything, does anyone think this could be interesting material to post and to explain in details. For instance, for the oven, I have tested a number of designs, I think we had 7 or 8 and maybe 4 different finishes.

The heater is 316, the shaft is 304, so same as on vape coils. The unit is manufactured in Serbia (Obviously, not the heater and the chip, battery, USB..., that is made in China because there is no other place on earth where you can make these (I feel bad I have the need to defend this), while for the chip, I could make it here but did not have the infrastructure to do the logic and the vape chip I did make here, I did not have a good time with that).

Yes, CE, ROHS. Tested ourselves but that obviously should not mean anything to anyone, and also applied for a health test here in Serbia in which tests are done with all the materials to check if they are hazardous or not at the working temperatures and also if they gas off anything, but as everything here, this might take some time.

I anticipated that people might be concerned up to a point with these things, I am, so I decided to use only proven well known materials. So we ended up with having PEEK, stainless steel and hard anodized aluminum, that's it.

PEEK, we had a motive to use another material here because PEEK costs a lot, but you can see it's PEEK, or a simple test confirms this, take a soldering iron and try to melt it.

Stainless steel, this is just how these heaters are, there's no motive for using other materials here, I don't believe there's a cheaper alternative here which would possibly motivate us to use it..

Hard anodized aluminum, a scratch test reveals this was indeed used, again, I don't believe there's a motive to use other material than stated here and you can check online, this is 100% non toxic and inert.

Bottom line is, I have tried to keep this simple and straightforward, so you can trust yourselves.

I will post the lab results once they are in for peace of mind. Sorry this is delayed.
Hey @Dejan LimelightHerb

The description says: Body materials Ultem (PEI), PEEK. The oven is also made of peek? Not ceramic?

Somehow I would have liked a electronic vaporizer completely made of metal, that would really be something different but maybe not easy to realize because of heat etc.

If a discount code for fc members comes, I think I will just order one.
The oven is hard anodized aluminum. Yes, a full metal device might look nice but would heat up more.
Will EU customers have to pay custom fees or do you send from within the EU? Still on the fence if I will buy one but it looks promising for sure.
We have set up shipping points in the EU, the UK and the US and we will cover all the fees for you. Never done this before as we have shipped directly from Serbia but everything should work well.

P.S. There was a mistake with the price on the website, I apologize about this, just noticed now while updating the product photos. The Frolic is actually priced at 350 EUR, we worked with EUR always so a mistake was made. So this comes out around 20 USD lower than initially stated so 399 USD.

Really appreciate all the info about the materials used in production. Are there plans to post a video of it's full extraction capabilities before release? If you show this beast destroy .1 or so in one hit I think it would convince a lot of us to buy in. I know it's what I'm looking for! Thanks again for your time and good luck!

Mom, this guy is bad influence!

Seriously though, yes. Unboxing video then features and performance. And to answer your question, yes, it will obliterate .1g, I will video this also.

Sorry for being slow with things, stretched out thin at the moment...

I really appreciate the depth and detail and transparency in materials and build information you gave @Dejan LimelightHerb ! It's a topic that matters to a lot of us here, and is a relief to know instead of wonder.

As others have noted, I really appreciate your offering specs on everything, even the orings. Furthermore, the exploded image of components for the Frolic is worth more than a thousand words with regards to repairability, safety, and how everything works. Love love love that!

Seeing the aluminum bowl/oven noted in the manual absolutely baffled me, as that is one place where I wouldn't ever want to see that material. I thought it must be a typo, because you are so purposeful in choosing safe materials and design. I've been puzzling over it since I saw that, and the only thing I could think to make it safe would be to hard anodize it.

"There is no way they'd go to the cost and effort to hard ano that part, though. It must be a typo because no way would they even think about hard anodizing an aluminum part in a thermal extraction device's airpath."

And yet you did! Bravo. I assume that using a debowler with a (smoothed) metal pick is okay? I think the stir tool is peek, so maybe I'll just use that.

I'm satisfying myself on the website's information until release, and looking forward to every bit of further info.

Thanks for the praise, as I said before, means a lot that this effort wasn't in vain. I have added a blog on the website where I plan to go into more details about such things.

We tried stainless steel, but performance was worse, then teflon... but teflon is teflon so no, then ceramic then laser annealing... I am sure I forgot something. Tbh, up until relatively recently, I did not have a good solution for this but then, like what you said, hard anodizing ticked all the boxes and indeed performed exceptionally in all tests and we did quite a few. The "debowler" (I will definitely steal this term, much better than "discharge tool") is stainless steel and it did not damage the bowl. In hindsight, PEEK might have been a better solution for this tool and I will look into that in the future.

@Dejan LimelightHerb Did the first run sell out, or is it still not for sale yet? I've been checking back all weekend and the website always says, "Out of stock".
I have made a mistake many times in the past by starting sales in the final phase of the project and then got overwhelmed with demand which in turn caused delays and I didn't want to repeat the same mistake so delayed sales a bit to be on the safe side.

In other words, they aren't available for sales yet, but end of the week or next week, we are good to go. I will first announce sales in the Facebook group then here and then Instagram and Facebook pages in that order.

I also still need to do the randomizer for the giveaway here before all that.

There is no option to dim or turn off the screen, or is there?
Question made me think of the software upgrade debate...

That’s the beauty of “upgradable firmware/software”. Some parts of the device can be improved over time, especially with customer feedback after sales. I didn’t see this mentioned as an included feature on the current product page.

While I have some interest in this device mainly as it seems to incorporate a heater very similar to the Tinymight, at this price point I’ll wait sometime, while carefully reading actual buyers and users feedback. Between my TM2 and Venty, I’m covered pretty well…

@Dejan LimelightHerb This comment sums up everything about this post and this device that has me watching closely also. Your transparency and in particular your stance against planned obsolescence and for repairability are refreshing. Even though I have no conceivable need for another battery portable dhv, I'll almost surely pick one up as a way to "vote with my wallet" for a company that espouses that philosophy. I'm just one potential customer, but for me that matters.

Is there a video of this thing in action yet?
The video(s) in this thread is of the device is not with it being used. I'm not aware of any of it in use yet. It seems like the moment he has one, he'll let us know. He told us about the website even though he said it wasn't totally done. So I doubt he'll sit on a video and not tell us.

*edit to fix typo to hopefully look less stupid. LOL
*edited again because I missed the "in action" part of the post I was responding to. Brain not work good today.

Will the FC 20% discount code be live when sales commence?
Yes of course. Also it's not 20% it's 10% on top of 10% because I am greedy (Which amounts to 19%). Also because this is how coupon codes will work if we choose this way

No, the screen brightness is not adjustable. Discussed this earlier and i explained my focus on construction and performance for this edition. Minor extras like this are of course welcomed if there is no downside to them which there isn't and every product is work in progress so I am noting everything now and in the future.
Not sure if this a new update on the Frolic site or I didn’t see it before is a page with pictures and descriptions of the accessories as the shopping pages don’t have the pics.

Many things aren't done there yet. I will be uploading new photos today and YT videos tomorrow so there's some quality material. Also, the mobile version isn't optimized well yet, it's in the works and should take only a couple of days.

God knows I tried :D. I was asked in a comment before if the Frolic can destroy 0.1 in one hit, I misinterpreted that and understood in 1 session, so a few draws... And answered positive. Now I owe either a video or an apology because I am not sure, I think it can, and also need to make a performance video in general. Will get myself some herb and try, the one I have is really dry and almost took me out. To clear things up here, I am not much of a vaper or smoker at all, I had a surgery a few years back where my skull was cracked open and this is how I got into all of this. Just proves that any negative situation can be turned into a positive one because here we are today...

Spot on, thanks. Yes, I am at the point where a lot of things need my attention again but things are falling into place and I hope to clear everything up in a matter of days. As soon as I got something, this is the first place I will post.

You took the time to correct the post, that's what counts.

P.S. Just messaging the admins about the giveaway, so I will update everyone on this matter. Also about sales and what I am allowed to do here on the forum. One option is discount codes but anyone can use them then another way is by messaging Maja (she does sales) here... On it.

Greetings,

Congratulations on your venture. It seems like the Frolic has lots of thought behind it and you should be very proud. It is also so very nice of you to be here and explain things as you proceed. This is a great supportive community. I wish you all the very best and am looking forward in having one to try out. So far, I think it looks very beautiful.

You are kicking off a brand new vape and that is so exciting! Good luck with everything and don't forget to breathe and also enjoy a good session yourself.

Warm Regards,

DrG

Am I nuts or is this sounding like a more portable version of the Tafee Bowle:hmm:
I agree. The heat-up times are similar and they're both pure convection. Even the anodized aluminum as one of the materials is in common, although in the Frolic's case it's hard anodized (not sure for the Bowle) and it's the oven. Not sure what the oven in the Bowle is made from.

Both have a nice beefy battery. The form factor of the Frolic is a more portable shape I would say, and you also get full digital temp control instead of 5 presets. Though you could argue 5 presets satisfies most.
I had a surgery a few years back where my skull was cracked open and this is how I got into all of this. Just proves that any negative situation can be turned into a positive one because here we are today...
That's a cool origin story. I trust your surgery was a success because your brain has allowed you to produce what looks to be a pretty great vape. Your device has had my interest for a while so I'm happy to see it come to fruition. It has a lot of the features I already love in the Bowle 2, with a more portable shape, and it also has a session mode.

I think it has the potential to become my go-to outdoor electric portable but I would need to find some capsules for it. If the AVLP gold plated capsules fit, that would be nice.

Not sure how I stumbled on this thread as I do not look usually in this section, but I am glad I did.

Your vape looks super interesting @Dejan LimelightHerb , the design choices and the form factor seem way better than most vapes imho.
Truly love that you hide the screen at the bottom.
I prefer analog vapes, my only true experience with an electronic vape is a Pax plus, and I chose it almost by elimination among a sea of ugly chunky plastic bricks, because I am a design snob. I was tempted by a TM2 for a long while, still do, but yours looks like an improved version in my opinion.

While I admit I am not thrilled by the plastics choice, I do understand the arguments. I think there is a ton of irrationality when people hear «plastic», putting in the same bag totally different materials with very different properties, and it soon becomes «bUt pLaStIc iS bAd» and I am not different :D. Perhaps we should not have ruined the planet by using a magical material to produce a shit ton of cheap useless stuff and and wrap everything but that is another subject…

Curiosity though, I think your design would open the door to different «sleeves» instead of the black part, no? Would Corian, or Micarta, be a possibility in your manufacturing process?

Congratulations on your project, good luck and all the best. Looking forward to see the launch, it allows me a couple days to really decide if I really want to blow that much money, or if I stick with an Omni, a Vapman and a torch like a stoned caveman :D
