Discontinued RBT Splinter (All Versions)

Thanks for the replies. Upon further testing, I think both answers apply here. A quick fire does allow the Splinter's res to stabilize a bit on the Reuleaux. It still jumps around a bit though vs. the Predator (seems to have stability issues), so it seems this one isn't as reliable generally. Thanks again.

Have you tried the Tubo firmware from lamart.ch

I have not, only Arctic Fox. Although Tubo was what was installed on the Reuleaux when I received it. Guessing there's Splinter settings out there for Tubo (?) If so could be another thing to try.

Interestingly, now the Reuleaux has stabilized while the Predator's res has inexplicably jumped considerably. This all makes me glad I have a couple rock-solid Grus to use for my other 510s. I've never had a lot of luck with Wismec mods (across 2 Predators and 2 Reuleaux duals).

I think it was easier to set up with Arctic Fox actually for splinters, depends on mods too

I just started using a splinter I got off of the classifieds here some time ago. It's great but it only came with two baskets and I might have messed one up. Also, they don't fit all the way; so I don't know if they were OG or not. Still the one works fine.

Let me know if anyone knows where to buy some that will work. Bulk from Amazon would be great, just for shipping. There are some on different sites for the tiny might baskets but I don't know if they would fit, plus the markup is going to be pretty high, then shipping on top for such a cheap (in theory) item.

I now suck at searching the internet :myday:. I used to be much better when search engines still used syntax but I can't seem to find many things now. Perplexity helps, but it still seems to have some of the same issues as other search engines (well, issues imo).

Any stem links would be great too. I do have the original two. I don't have tons of money, but if anyone has a Z that they wish to unload PM me pls:p!

I've bought a Fuchai Duo-3 255W Box Mod. It's the first "box mod" I've ever had besides an old manual e-vape circa ~2008; so any tips on using that with the splinter V2 would be helpful. So far, I tried just 40 and 45 watts.

Any and all other tips would be great!

These are them--16mm (or 1/2 inch) rimmed basket screens:

You can use a small tool to help form the bottom of the basket wider in order to grip the interior of the joint to make it fit tightly.

These are my go-tos:

@Ed's TnT has some excellent wooden ones, too:

Not much to add, that's the range I run mine.

You can use a 14mm-18mm male adapter for a bong or j-hook. Fit a flat screen down in the bottom of the joint for a larger bowl and a basket screen in the end of the joint for smaller loads.

There's a wide variety to those baskets, depending on the source, so I would say just searching around and get as many different ones from as many different places as you can? But you might prefer basket screens without a rim that can go inside the stem, like the ones from Delta 3D studios, I have some older nicer ones that are not available from other places, that I prefer to use more than the ones with the rim, sometimes the ones that the rim can fit good, but with variance and variants in the glass itself, sometimes they don't fit well and poke out etc as you describe... I have some that fit well, so yeah it really is hard to predict unfortunately you would just have to get a wide variety and try a lot probably? And maybe try more other stems too if possible...

Thank YOU @coolbreeze and @Shit Snacks I really appreciate the info!!!!

@coolbreeze I added those to my basket! One thing, I was reading on here (forget exactly) but with mine being a V2 is it 19/19 or 19/22. It sounded non-standard, unless I got one of the early releases from the person I bought it from. I have a caliper somewhere, I'll have to check.

@Shit Snacks That press looks cool! That sounds economical. I know it's asking too much but I wish there was one that did multiple sizes. Still with the right size hole and dowel your in business! It's a great idea. I could even try screens and a pen with the glass, if I'm careful (maybe?)

It's a regular splinter? Should be 19/19 (unless it is super old one of the originals handmade), but yeah there is variance with them all... Sometimes other stems can fit, but there can be risk of breakage etc...

Oh yeah I mean you can also just buy the screens from him already pressed as well, but there are a lot of different options to form your own screens of course too

It's the V2 china made one; I'm guessing that's regular one you mention. I'm normally browsing on here, so I know of the older z but mine's the newer one.

No, I'm asking if it is a Z, or a regular splinter... All Splinter Z, whether made in US or China as V1 or V2, are 19/22. However all splinter, regular splinter, V1 V2, from China or old US, should be 19/19 (unless super old from the original run were the only that were 19/22 I believe) so if you have a Z, 19/22 standard works for you (although they might not leave room for the rimmed basket screen to fit well the way that a 19/19 stem in the 19/22 Z would, is the thing then) The standard stock of stems from China etc are 19/19 so they would fit both models, but 19/22 is a standard so there are more options for other aftermarket stems, and of course customs (like GVB can cut down to fit anything, he can also put spikes in the stem to hold a flat screen instead or any basket that doesn't have enough walls to fit secure on its own in a plain smooth stem)

It's a regular splinter v2. I didn't realize the Zs had two versions. I'm copying all of this great info into my note taking application so I can find it later! My brain leaks 🙄😋

Oh and I wasn't trying to be condescending in anyway. I love mine. I do have an affinity for custom type stuff. I'll try and grab a Z if I can (find and afford). I tried to like the original mighty but I never liked the mouthpiece; the larger glass of the splinter is great!!. The splinter is a pleasant surprise me!

I was using a hot rod but I must have knocked it off the nightstand too many times. So it's currently out of action.

My mighty is also dead, probably a similar reason but who knows.

The splinter was my last vape option. For me it's great 😋👍 I hadn't tried it before

Oh nice! Yeah it's not really versions so much, the differences are minimal, primarily just if it is ceramic or mica holding up the steel mesh heater inside, and the outer wood bubinga vs blackwood and clear or smoked glass is all really. It is a bit more different, if it is one of the US models made by Ryan, compared to the China models that have the V designations, but still subtle differences for the most part (more exotic wood variety primarily, different glass source, and mica)

Oh no worries dude I don't even know anyway in which how I would have taken that as condescending regardless! Yeah there is a lot out there in the aftermarket, with patience and some legwork maybe... I actually have one to sell, though it is currently spoken for, it may still become available... I don't use mine so much anymore, but I still need to keep a few of my own haha though maybe I could find another to part with, something similar etc...

So I actually also have a lot of variety in glass stems including original, but also plenty of the ones that are 19/19 so maybe I can hook you up with some of that and screens at some point too... Need to go through everything, spread out and hard to track with where, how I am set up now lol

Wow, you're so kind. Of course pm me anytime. I'm not real quick, but I'll try and keep an eye out.

I'll order some screens and baskets. That lmart vid on the baskets that @Hippie posted is great. Once I get some in, I'll know what to do
