I found a way to dry hard to clean glass

Hello! As an introductory tangent, I'd like to say that I personally have a no clone policy. I violated my own rule and got a prophet clone while I wait for my custom prophet to be built. I have no judgement of those that support the clone market, but for my own sense of integrity I wanted to state that. Please lets not let this post become a discussion about clones.

Back on topic!

I got this clone a couple of days ago and noticed upon first cleaning that its really hard to drain the water out completely. If you use soap you are in for a whole lot of rinses to get it out. I discovered that blowing air through the bowl end of the piece was great for flushing the water out. But drying was a pain. i got out all of the water i could then let it sit for a few hours to dry, then tipped it to get more water out, left it overnight, and there was still water in it in the morning.

So I got this 14mm joint borosilicate powder funnel from stonylab. Just now I cleaned the piece again and used to funnel to mate my heat gun up to the piece. I set the heat gun on 360F and the piece was dry in minutes.

I wanted to share this in case it can help anyone else who wants a dry piece right after cleaning. I'm new here, apologies if everyone already knows this :D

Edit: the funnel opening is 50mm wide and has a 14/20 ground glass joint at the bottom. they have other sizes too

Awesome! I have never known CC to do custom work - are you sure it's a Prophet, or is another glass maker making you a piece that is a similar clone of the Prophet.

Not custom exactly, but there are a few one-off customs out there, they had a clear pre-order upgraded to special color style after

I wanted to update this post in case it's useful. I have since moved to the 75mm funnel and have added a 14mm female to female connector to be able to dry mouthpieces and to be able to hit the drop down ash catchers from each end. Hitting the glass from each end dries it faster than twice the time from one end because usually the end furthest from the heat gun needs to get hot enough for the water to evaporate. I have RO water so I rinse in that before drying. Here is a picture of the current setup:

Here it is taken apart:

I hate when you can't completely get water out of a piece. I bought a table top fan, and put my glass in front of it, and that's what finally worked for me. Might try this if I want variety. Might work better.
its been nice, especially for things like drop down ashcatchers that i want to use right away after washing.

I've ended up replacing the stand with another funnel. The big one goes on the heat gun and the small one allows mating up with stems, etc that don't have a 14mm joint. I think this is the final form of the glass drying thing:

I used a heat gun but had the heat too high once and it cracked my cheap ass bong so I swapped to using this,

The small size is great compared to my heat guns (I just got a Makita 18v too, wireless is great...especially around water being a stoner)
It works a treat and is powerful enough to clean air filters etc (and great for blowing out ball vape bowls etc too).
(there a lot of cheap crappy versions but the Wolfbox MF100 is a quality bit of kit)

Yeah it’s not so much the heat that dries the glass as it is the air flow. I’ve been using a powered camping mattress inflator for years.

Nothing I have takes more than a few seconds to a couple min to dry

100% necessary for everyone’s kit

thanks! I’ll play with room temperature air, it would be nice to not have to manage any heat

SEARCH for the treasure...
The only time I obsess about my rigs being bone dry is when I’m putting them away for an unknown amount of time. Using PBW or even a tiny swish of 190 ethanol, leaves no water spots after a final rinse of distilled water, and letting it air dry.
Having a small air compressor is nice, but I rarely feel the need.

If I’m going to reuse the same rig again, I certainly don’t feel the need for it to be DRY, as I’m going to reload it with distilled water……

makes sense, i use a lot of dry pieces and drop down ashcatchers. i personally like to dry them after cleaning and start using them right away
