Will (THC) residue in my vape get me high? (When using CBD flowers)

Hi y'all,

I've been a weed user for atleast 10 years now, of which 7 years I've been using daily.
The older I got, the more clear it became that daily weed use is affecting my work and social life.
I've started noticing that I'm less social and a bit irritable the day after.
That's why nowadays I tend to consume only in weekends, but every now and then I'm too weak and I'll still use mid-week, but its manageable.

But now I've been reading a lot about CBD flowers. They should help with sleep (which is one of my main problems when not consuming), tolerance breaks and also make the hangovers less worse the next day if I do consume mid-week again.
They are legal in my country and thus I've ordered a sample batch at an online retailer.

The thing is, I've got three vapes:
- A Mighty
- Dynavap Vapcap M
- Arizer Extreme Q

I love all three of them and still use all of them occasionally, depending on the situation. But the residue inside is built up by THC containing flowers. I'm worried that, even if I put CBD flowers in them, I'll still get a THC high because of the heat taking some of the residue with the inhalation. I know for sure that my Mighty's cooling unit is full of residue oil containing THC.

Can anybody relate on this?
Maybe I should clean and use one of the vapes exclusively for CBD flowers, or maybe buy a new one for that.

I'd love to hear your experiences. :)
(Also about CBD flowers in general)

You should clean them anyway once in a while . Old residue cooked and recooked gives bad taste.
Also a bit of residue should have minor effects compared to a new bowI I guess.
You're right :)

I clean them every third month on the average, so that isn't necessarily a problem.
I'm just worried the THC from the residue is going to mess up my CBD sessions.

Hi, definately clean more frequently than that! Especially the DV.

On to your question though, no, probably not, but possibly in the DV. Where you see the reclaim is collecting, is collecting the because it's colder than the bowl. You won't be getting enough heat to that area of the value in normal use. With the DV however, being mostly metal it can conduct heat into those areas and you might get a little bit of vapour, probably not enough to significantly effect you though.

Your CBD flower will also have some THC in it, usually around 1% total THC, so that would be your most likely THC source. But even a low tolerance guy like me doesn’t feel ‘high’ effects until 3% Total THC so you should be ok unless you use a lot more than typical.

The marijuana residue you're worried about is in the air path, downstream from the chamber and it doesn't get hot enough to offgas. The chamber itself should not have any residue on it. It's the rest of the vape that collects it and that stuff won't get you high. Unless you collect it with cotton swabs and stick the cotton in the chamber and vape it. (You'll hear people refer to that activity as 'vaping reclaim').

Now certain hybrid vapes have holes at the bottom of the chamber where crumbs from finely ground herb could get trapped around the heater, but that is a different subject.

My CBD hemp contains 0.1-0.4% THC. I don't feel that at all either.

Yeah definitely no real worry here but I’d echo the remarks of a more frequent clean / session to clean before your THC free week might be the best way to feel totally confident. If you are also okay with it, devoting a vape to solely be CBD after a deep clean is of course the best way if you feel better about that.

I typically will consume CBD through the work hours, without feeling a THC high. I’ve cleaned and dedicated some DV setups to live in my office and a bong that is only used up here as well, so similar concerns of yours to not tip the scales too much.

Even if you were to somehow catch a bit of vapor from the pot reclaim, it will be beyond negligible if you're vaping a bowl of type 3 hemp flower. You will either never notice it, or any potential effects will be subconscious and not negative...

Thanks for the replies guys. I am going to use my VapCap for CBD flowers only from now on.

So a few hours ago the package arrived and I filled my Mighty. I didn't clean the residue oil in the cooling chamber but I did clean the heating chamber.

I definitely feel a bit different but its very mild, it might be the residue though. I can at least tell its not placebo, I don't feel 100% sober anymore but its nowhere near a average THC high. I'm going to try again with a fully cleaned vape next week. Also the taste is a bit weird (reminds me of hashish) and the bowl cleared way quicker than it does using THC flowers, it might be the strain though. Its outdoor weed since I just wanted a cheap sample to try at first.

Here are the supposed lab results provided by my vendor:

a couple thoughts:
- people make a lot of claims about CBD's health benefits, but the quality research seems to only support that it has benefits for a kind of epilepsy that afflicts children. maybe there's new research I'm unaware of, but if there was strong evidence (not just anecdotal) that CBD helped other things, I'm pretty sure it'd be all over the media. lots of people say it didn't do anything for them (I tried it for pain - it did nothing).
- it seems like most CBD products have at least some THC, so you're likely to get a micro-dose, feel some effect(s) that could easily be from the THC, not the CBD.

I'm glad there's more research being done on using cannabinoids medicinally, but it's probably going to take some time to separate the junk science from good research. good luck!

I once concentrated some CDB bud so the THC was about typical for what I’d have in a normal THC edible (so lots of other noids in there). Was a totally different experience and very sedating, and relaxing.

Agreed, apart from the last sentence. Research needs funding- science is for sale and the money is on scams at the moment because of the capitalist model of "competition or bust" and the new religion of scientism.

It is not "junk science" because of incompetence.

I am scientifically certain the medicinal benefits of cannabis come from whole plant preparations and that at least some THC needs to be there together with the other cannabinoids and terpenes.

This residual THC can potentially mix with the CBD from your CBD flowers and produce a mild psychoactive effect, depending on the concentration of THC present. If you are concerned about this, it's a good idea to clean your vape thoroughly before using it with CBD flowers, to minimize the risk of any residual THC affecting your experience.
