If you set the TCR right and the mod stops heating at the right time, you can use autofire too. I'm doing this with my glow and it doesn't damage my wood.just don't use cruise mode/autofire with these settings...
glow is different story , the coils are tiny , much less volume isn't it? like, or did u change it to be big volume mesh?!
No I didn't, you can see the coils at Glow's thread though. I know it's not the same vol but it still heats up to a specific resistance, so I think you can configure it to reach a resistance that doesn't do damage and is hot enough.
iHeat hitter is like the opposite of the Glow18, I know the glow18 but not with Stainless Steel coils....... the mesh is very big but weighs almost nothing....I was shocked when I hold that in my hands...... maybe if you get an iHeat which the cold resistance is 0.355 and you reduce it to 0.255 or something, then you can set max of 55w-60w, because it will not reach it....
Nice to see someone else already had the same idea a while ago for a glass stempod sleeve! Would love to see a clearer pic how the mesh coil is screwed to the 510 base when you have a chance.Glad you are able to use so many different roasting tubes with the iHeat using the silicone sleeve @GoldenBud
Speaking of silicone sleeves. I found that an 18mm female glass tube will fit nicely to a StemPod deck using one. It allows enough room to install a spiral coil heater. The roasting is fairly even with the air directed straight up by the four air inlet tubes. I only have one screen installed above the heater, so there is no foil disc in the center. The screen is 5/8" and has been hammered until it larger in diameter and won't fit through the bottom of the taper. It gets wedged into the glass at the bottom of the taper. I started using them with some 18mm roasting tubes I configured a while back.

The screw post configuration in the stempod is the same as for the iHeat, so I connect them the same way. Here is a photo I posted a while back where you can see how the wires connect to the 510 deck.

I think he’s more worried about the heat drying the wood and splitting it at some point.
the gap between the mesh to the wood is smaller than logs. all logs have more gap between the heater/cover to the wood, but because the mesh has low weight, it can perform with that small gap without doing damage to the wood
That's a beaut of a setup. My current setup is a 5" glass tube with a flat screen and Alan cut the tip off so it will fit the iheat. I then add a 10" silicone tube to get even more cooling. It's almost like having a j-hook. I'm very bad with breaking glass, so I'd love an 18mm silicone tube eventually. But glass is where the flavor is at.
