Honestly not surprising the way that capitalism has slowly continued to strengthen its stranglehold. The entire pandemic was a perfect demonstration of how little the working class matters.

Yeah, remeber that fuckin kabuki theater, now almost three years ago. Grocery workers, the service industry all were called ESSENTIAL workers. And heroes. Man, they threw that shit out the window pretty quick.

It's such a bummer. I posted this a while back, but this guy succinctly explains what they rail workers are asking for.

Now this is on the Far Right Wing news station Newsmax. This is what people who think Fox News is librull propaganda watch. The union member won over the hosts. Hosts on a Far Right network believed the union's demands were reasonable. A President from the "Left Wing" and "Pro Labor" Party apparently does not.

And these railroad corporations are awful. A big part of the reason we're experiencing inflation as well. They refuse to do any capital investment, so shit breaks down all the time. And they find all sorts of ways to cheap out on labor.

That's what the sick time shit's about. They don't want to hire more workers to cover sick days. They would much rather run short staffed and work their current workers to death. Often literally, since sick/injured workers are forced to work or lose pay. And their equipment is breaking down all the time.

It's not like the corpos are passing the savings on to consumers either. They're pocketing the money with stock buybacks and insane executive compensation.

Twitter is no longer enforcing its Covid misinformation policy

Twitter said it will no longer enforce its longstanding Covid misinformation policy, yet another sign of how Elon Musk plans to transform the social media company he bought a month ago.

This thread succinctly describes why Biden forcing railway union members to accept a shitty deal is a big deal for every American.

It is BECAUSE they always counted on Biden/Congress forcing a deal down workers' throats that rail carriers saw no reason to bargain in good faith for 2+ yrs or to change the profit-maximizing practices that have blown up the supply chain

The railroad corpos KNEW the Feds would eventually intervene on their behalf. That's why they refused to strike a decent bargain with workers. They KNEW that this government works solely on behalf of the Corpo Overlords.

So, if you just started caring about the crisis on the railroads & were hand wringing about striking workers hurting the supply chain, I got news for you: Biden just gave a big thumbs up to the people who have already run the supply chain into the ground.

Joe is literally rewarding the greedy scumbags who have greatly contributed to the supply chain issues and related price inflation everyone's been bitching about.

You're already paying for their corporate malfeasance. Demolishing their workforce, making trains longer/more dangerous, risking more derailments, price gouging shippers (lot of businesses have no choice but to use rail, & no one's out here building new rail lines so...
The rail carriers can do whatever they want. They have essentially formed a non-competitive oligopolistic cartel.)

It's so fuckin bleak that in this supposed democracy we all get to choose between politicians who will fuck over normal people to make the rich and powerful happy... and politicians who will do the same exact thing, but also want to put every gay and trans person in an internment camp.

Billionaire Warren Buffett, one of the wealthiest men in the world and the CEO of BNSF Railway’s parent company, saw his wealth jump by nearly $1.4 billion in a single day earlier this week, a sum that could easily fund 15 days of paid sick leave for every rail worker in the United States.

I just removed a bunch of posts as they became an off-topic, race-baiting derail. There were some bits about censorship that I deleted too, heh.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk had said Twitter Blue would relaunch this coming Friday, but the social media company is now postponing the launch as it tries to avoid paying Apple’s 30% cut of subscription revenue, reports Platformer, a newsletter from tech journalists Casey Newton and Zoe Schiffer.

“Joe Biden blew it,” said Hugh Sawyer, treasurer of Railroad Workers United, a group representing workers from a variety of rail unions and carriers. “He had the opportunity to prove his labor-friendly pedigree to millions of workers by simply asking Congress for legislation to end the threat of a national strike on terms more favorable to workers. Sadly, he could not bring himself to advocate for a lousy handful of sick days. The Democrats and Republicans are both pawns of big business and the corporations.”

Railroad workers should tell Congress and the President to go fuck themselves and strike anyway. These scumbags need to be reminded that there's more of us than there are of them.

Stu,

My initial reply was to someone who called Elon Musk a Nazi. That is not nice. It is insulting and false, but it was within his right to speak.

My response was to defend Musk's decision because we should all have the right of freedom of speech. Some people got offended. Some used the R-word. Others just didn't like the idea of people saying things that counter their far leftist beliefs.

My response was totally respectful.

I suspect the reason for your reply is because someone complained. Right? C'mon Stu, admit it.

I ask that you restore my original post(s) with a note to the FC community that everyone has the right to state their opinions. I'd also like you to apologize -- preferably to the community, but I'll accept a private apology.

I sort of wonder if years from now, after all the dust has settled, that it will turn out the real government conspiracy wasn't " it's all a big hoax". But rather that the government decided to pretend the whole thing was over while the disease was still quietly disabling citizens by the millions.

I guess you don't get sarcasm, but ok, I've deleted that post now so as not to further trigger you.

What gave you the impression that you have any rights around here? There is no freedom of speech on FC. You must be thinking of Twitter.

Um, no.

By the way, your post breaks forum rules:

So that earns you another warning point and a vacation from FC for a bit. You should read the rules during your off time.

Here's Hoping They Don't Catch on Fire.

Musk’s Neuralink Hopes to Implant Computer in Human Brain in Six Months

Elon Musk’s Neuralink Corp. aims to start putting its coin-sized computing brain implant into human patients within six months, the company announced at an event at its Fremont, Calif. headquarters on Wednesday evening.

Uh huh. Can't wait to kick back in my autopilot Tesla in a Boring Company tunnel on the way to my brain chip appointment.

On the plus side, this may be a great way to get rid of a specific type of annoying guy.

The majority of railroad workers voted for sick pay.

The majority of Americans believe they should receive sick pay.

The majority of Senators voted for sick pay.

And it still doesn't pass.

Some fucking "democracy" we have here. What a fuckin joke country.

Normally I complain about completely ridiculous political outcomes with an endless stream of profanity and maybe it helps(me) a tiny bit sometimes. This is a dark day for unions, their members, and labor in general everywhere and by far a new low. I honestly don't have words but it's also not surprising in the least, very weird combination of feelings.

Just gonna leave this here for anyone who might feel the similarly...

I mean it's par for the course so I can't say I'm shocked. At the same time it's pretty infuriating. All Biden had to do was nothing. You know, the Democratic Party's favorite fucking thing to do. Instead he came out loud and proud for the Bosses.

Literally a quote from the railroad bosses during union negotiations. If Labor doesn't contribute to profits, why did the corpos need to run to the government to keep them from striking? Odd.

It's not really the party affiliation itself. More like certain news sources pushed vaccine hesitancy. There's something really fucking dark about quadruple vaxxed decamillionaire TV hosts telling their audiences "hey, maybe vaccines are bullshit" leading to a disproportionate number of them dying.
