I didn't like the heater's screen, it made me tamp every bowl in the vapcap's tip, so.. tried to replace it with some new screens (Made in USA)

i find it better with the tip so it won't interfere with the bowl

That is a great idea for the heater screen @GoldenBud The ID is 3/8" where I dimple the tube for the tube stop clip ring, so the 3/8" screen is a perfect fit. Have found it helpful to hand hammer the 3/8" screen until they are 10mm OD. It allows the screen to fit a bit tighter so it won't easily come out. There are no crevices to trap particles that might fall into the end of the heater cover like there is using a basket style screen. The air flow should be slightly better too. May have to start doing this for all 7/16" (OD) heater covers.

@4everpushingaboulder - I'm not sure of the exact date when I started adding the ss tube stop clip ring to the heater cover. Some customers also specify that they don't want the clip ring as an option. It is fairly easy to install one using a clip ring tool. I can send you a clip ring to install if you have the installation tool. I don't recommend using the o-rings as the heat will quickly degrade the silicone and it will break. If you use the two screen method in your Slide-a-Bowl tube, the outer screen can rest on the end of the heater cover to act as a stop. Happy roasting.
Cool that the intercooler works in the tubes w/ 5/16" holes through them btw. Dynavap tips will also work in them if you remove the 5/16" ss roasting tip.

It's just a short step to contact alan to get a second Hi. Just to be Safe
Mine is on the whole day every time ready for a quick hit. I dont want to miss it!!!
I thought about it. VAS is real. We often think a new item will solve a problem. Well instead of thinking about another or different vaporizer, I got to thinking about different ways to roast. I revisited the paper roasting tube idea and prefer it now. I believe @Alan and @Razhumikin do as well. I find there is more heat at the herb.

I swapped printer paper for hemp paper. I am using RAW rolling tips found cheap at a local head shop. https://www.amazon.com/Rolling-Papers-Unbleached-Filter-Tips/dp/B005JFFY02

Hello friendly FC community! I received a couple of weeks ago my two HI - 3/8” Square HI w/ ss heater cover and 10mm bamboo HI w/ glass heater cover. They are already among my top favourite roasting devices and it has been a unique experience of use, cool and tasty hits, and a joy to just hold them in my hand. I love them both and can get similar results from both while appreciating the difference, especially the more powerful heater in the bamboo HI, which can also deliver tasty hits longer on a bowl if not used as a one hitter with water cooling. @Alan made some gorgeous roasting tubes for me as well, and if you are looking for custom roasting tubes for any of your devices that accept them you won’t regret @ShitSnacks’ advice to check with @Alan! He also made for my Tinymight 4 straight wooden tubes lined with glass that I can also use with my HIs. My two favourite tubes are the 4" lg, cherry tube w/ 10mm bowl and 5/16" hole and the 4.5" lg, 5/16" ss liner tube in walnut. I generally preferred vaping dry, direct draw with j-hook or small water piece with no water but i am liking using my logs now since I tried with the HI especially through the 18mm NonG tube from @Alan and the one from UD.
I have used the HIs dry, with j-hook, and through water and they deliver to my satisfaction on the lower temps and I can end the roasting with a hotter stronger hit. It’s been a long time I have not enjoyed such great taste and the 4" lg, cherry tube w/ 10mm bowl with the bamboo HI as well as the 7/16" ss roasting tip on 4" lg, 3/8" ss tube have been much enjoyed so far for consistent flavour and allowing very strong hits. Both HI can hit hard even at the lower temps and I have been staying generally under 5W /8.50v-10.50v only! I have only tried higher voltage a few times but will experiment in that direction as I continue getting acquainted with the logs but I definitely prefer lower temp roasting. I have not tried yet the paper tubes he made for me, I have ordered some hemp paper to replicate same and also make some for my Tinymight - @Alan wrote down for me the instructions on how to make them. I am really impressed by the island heat experience and feel privileged to own devices that are based on the clever technology that @Alam seems to use in clever and evolving designs since it’s started, that’s my feeling from reading the thread and from listening to him coming up with new ideas and incorporating feedback and tricks from his interactions with the community.

I take this opportunity to share my first impressions by first thanking @Alan for having been available, patient with my plenty messages, he has been pleasant, responsive and allowed me to experience the island heat technology only within 6 months of first contacting him to be put on his waiting list for an iHeat! Yes, the iHeat was my initial target and I discovered and fell in love with the HI without even having tried it! Now I look forward to my name coming up, not anytime soon though since I signed up only in a January, but I look forward to the opportunity for the iHeat and a GTR. I came late to log style devices but the versatility, simplicity of their design, ease of use and clean with no adhesives with @Alan’s and others’ I have not tried yet have convinced me that these are what I have been looking for as they suit my various use cases, and I will probably start at some point finding new homes for many of my devices that I thought I would always keep even if not regularly used but we shall see how the difficult decisions of which ones to keep end up. @Alan is a good person and a master craftsman and innovator and I like his approach to the design and continuous improvement of what he delivers. If you are patient you will not be disappointed, I think, and I speak from experience.
As a recent frequent user of FC, I also want to thank this FC community and the longtime members who are almost everywhere in most threads and from whom I have learned so much in the last couple of years, for having helped in not only the discovery of the HI and the UD and many other devices but also convinced me to jump in and get what is available with @Alan while I wait for my turn, and also for advising to read the thread, which I did from page 1 to present date now! So thank you again for what you do sharing your experience and knowledge in a friendly and generous manner!

Nice collection of roasting tubes! And good job on going with a HI.

I prefer the paper roasting chamber/tube style. Give it a try. You could take printer paper or a RAW hemp filter piece of paper and roll a short replacement for the 5/16" ss tube that can slide out of the poly on glass 14mm adapter (top tube in the pic with the wooden tubes).

The paper does not absorb heat and the HI's heat up time and recovery time is reduced.

Let me know what you think. I prefer this way.

Aaaand Bamboo HI itself received! Actually about a week ago; took it on it's first voyage last Friday and WOW was that wonderful. Flavorful, productive, and stretched a small amount an impressive way. I used a J-hook paired with the GONG stem for this first run, so a mostly glass (aside from screens and heater column) experience. I also have a stainless stem and a paper stem to experiment with. Pretty stoked to join #loglife with this device!

the HI shines with Ti tip IMHO
which setting u use?
12.3v here, bowl is done without dark abv, slow draw, 12.7v for dark ABV

Just got the bamboo hi but which way do I put the weed in the steel stem? Do I just dump down the long path of the stem because the other way it would fall out.

Also there’s no way I can reach the weed with the stir took if it goes down the long way of the stem

So your stem, is going to be your vapor path, and your chamber, it should have a steel mesh basket screen on one end, you would load inside that little basket. Then inhale as you put it over the heater to then inhale the hot air from the heater core through the herbs and into your lungs. I like to keep the HI itself upside down so I can make sure it is clean, especially as getting the hang of it, you'll see how the herbs stick in the basket after the first hit they stay put. The long pathway is your vapor path that's where you inhale, do you understand what I'm saying? You can try putting another screen to protect your load from falling as well if you don't want to keep the HI upside down/ sideways

Which end do I put the weed in though? That’s why I’m trying to figure out. If I put it in the end where the screen is when I flip the stem the weed is gonna spill out. I’m confused on which side to inhale and which side to put the weed in

Yeah that's what I'm trying to tell you, the weed will not fall out if you keep it upside down for that first hit, once you take the first hit then the weed stays in the basket... It's a tricky thing, the best way to load is suck it up like a straw into that basket, and suck it up as you put it over the heater to then continue sucking up the heat through the herbs and create the vapor.. Does that make sense at all?? You want to inhale from where there is a longer path, and you need to put the weed in front of the basket screen, filling the basket, otherwise you would suck up all the weed haha yes. You have the option of putting another basket screen in front of the weed to keep it there, or keep inhaling, use it upside down, etc. This is the trick of having stem based pure convection vape, once you get the hang of it, it is really simple easy

So I tried a few times and the weed does stick like you say but when I inhale all the weed fell in the chamber of the bamboo Hi and Im not getting any smoke. I’m getting Heat but no smoke
