Yeh key for me is to have the flame size pretty much as per instructions but warm up until you see a faint hot spot on the metal. Also I just keep the flame steady on one point/tiny circle until the red glow appears, then do the circles a little wider and start dragging. Do it in a slightly dark-ish room.

turn your lights down. Don't worry about 4 seconds, preheat till you see a little spot/dot on the cap
Yeah I can see it. Tell me, when I am moving the torch in circles, should I also see that little dot?

Hey, I like that finish washer idea. Trying it out with the alu pipe.

I'm finally frustrated enough with my hotspotting issue that I've written to Lotus for input; looking for the same here. The hotspot follows the blue dot, always, unless I try to keep the temperatures *really* low (like, too low to really be useful). Thoughts?

You're right, it IS hotspotting above the spot where the stirr stool is. You were not crazy. Last night when using ridiculously low heat, just barely enough to blue the material, this was STILL happening.

I think you should also mind another dimension: draw speed. Sometimes i combusted because i inhaled to slow while dancing with the red devil. Conversely if you dont inhale at all, you can be safe and never combust.
I was drawing slow. I'm finally starting to get draws with minimal lighter intensity:
1. No draw heatup until the whole center disc with fast circles until it glows a bit, not just a dot. Center blue flame just kissing it. Pull back just a bit from it to the cooler blue flame and move in a zombie-like pace, making circles. It should be barely glowing
1a. At the same time, super duper slow draw, similar to the milaana getting started but waaay slower. When you feel it, start to rip. I think of it as a vape where it'll get there when it gets there and I like that. Very relaxing.
2. Continuing to draw after the butane is done is the best thing for vapor production.

Once I "got" it, it's better than my milaana by miles.

Question:
I use the torch 420vapezone has on top; it doesn't like being held upside down. What is the torch he uses on the bottom?

No way man, gotta be user error ;)

I used the finish washer for a bit, helped some but I could taste it.

I covered the intake hole nearest the hotspot with blue tape, that seemed to help some. It's also way easier imo to feel the temp w a glass jhook; if you hold it at the crook you can feel the heat w your hand.
