(Ireland): Campaigner plants cannabis in Cork city centre

Martin Condon is calling for safe access to cannabis products

Cannabis plants have been planted in Cork city centre by a campaigner who is calling for safe access to cannabis products for medicinal use.

Martin Condon, who wants to see cannabis legalised, planted several plants in the city, which were removed by gardaí, leading him to subsequently plant some more.

Mr Condon told RTÉ's Today with Claire Byrne that he planted cannabis plants in flower boxes to highlight how much, in his view, that garda time is wasted on this
issue.

A week ago, Mr Condon planted cannabis plants near Shandon Bridge in the city centre, with the Irish Examiner reporting that gardaí uprooted these after a few days.

This led Mr Condon to planting nine more plants, and he says he is doing this to highlight how garda resources could be better used elsewhere, and how it is time in his view to legalise cannabis.

Gardaí confirmed they removed suspected cannabis plants from Shandon footbridge shortly before 6.30pm last Wednesday, 30 June.

No arrests have been made to date, investigations are ongoing.
how could someone possibly doing that !!! how horible to just plant random plants ! they are illegal ... plants are the Devil ...!

Italy set to legalise home cultivation of cannabis

(9th September 2021)

Italy is set to legalise small-scale cultivation of cannabis. A reform to that effect was passed by justice committee of the lower house of the Italian parliament on Wednesday.

The reform seeks to decriminalise growth of up to four female cannabis plants at home. The reform also seeks to increase punishment for trafficking and dealing cannabis. The punishment has been raised from up to six years to 10 years.

The reform was put forward by Italian PM Riccardo Magi. If the reform goes all the way through, it will make Italy one of first European countries to decriminalise domestic cultivation of Cannabis.

The reform has come two years after Italy's supreme court ruled that small scale cultivation of cannabis was legal. The landmark ruling came in 2019.

AFAIK it's already the case in Spain, Portugal and Netherlands, so "one of first" is a bit misleading. Good news tho!
Indeed, perhaps not quite an early bird, but when I saw this earlier, it prodded my memory of some discussion, and prognosis speculation here I think, before Wots(h)it lol, regarding Italy's prospects here.

Iirc, it seemed it wasn't beyond achievement but then was it a new party (?) and there was significant doubt cast I think.

That was a while ago now.

But it came through!

So regardless of order, another very good victory in the world of freeing up cannabis from oppression.

Really pleased for Italy.

Pre Cove, UK was looking 5 yrs max decrim at least, likely recreational market, me and all too, hoping to see self producing permitted too especially for my own allergies to all ferts.

Now...I realise that I have completely stopped even thinking about cannabis legalisation in the United Kingdom or anticipating it in any sort of time ssense.

But 3 cheers to Italy!
And @KeroZen good always to still see you posting aroundl, really hope things are well, wishing best for you always.

Edit- Holland- 4 plants a time I think it was?

It's great news. Yes I think Spain and maybe Italy traditionally turned a blind eye to balcony grows.
And I remember some talk about all this, but I also remember hearing of an Italian politician who vowed to close every single CBD hemp outlet over there one by one.
That guy must be really boiling over now!!

It's interesting how they follwed their tradition, went for home grown and skipped over legal sales or any revenue to be gained from it. Very interesting.
I heard of a committee member recently in Nigeria who says that legalisation of cannabis (sales?) would be "money versus life".
Well I wonder how he feels about Italy's move where no money changes hands, it might be gardening versus life?!

Thanks Italy for giving the rest of us a little hope, and a great reason to move to Italy also!

Not exactly allowed. Yet, tolerated I guess.

It is not permitted to grow cannabis or marijuana plants at home or anywhere else. If no more than 5 plants are present, it will be assumed that there is no question of any professional trade or business being conducted.

This situation is treated in the same way as one in which only a small quantity of cannabis is present, intended for personal consumption. If plants are discovered, the grower will be required to relinquish them and, in most cases, will not be prosecuted.

Socialdemokratiet mayoral candidate to legalise cannabis sales

Should she get elected in November’s council election, Sophie Haestorp Andersen plans to shake up Copenhagen’s established dealer scene

The Copenhagen Post (Denmark)
Friday, August 13, 2021

Sophie Hæstorp Andersen
Socialdemokratiet’s leading mayoral candidate for Copenhagen, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, has big plans concerning the decriminalisation of cannabis. Should the votes in the upcoming election this November be in her favour, she has vowed to use her position as mayor to take large steps forward in “the fight against criminality and uncertainty”, according to her Facebook profile. Andersen wants cannabis sales to be legal and regulated. Similar to Sweden’s approach to controlling alcohol consumption – the Systembolagetof in which people order in advance before buying drinks with a more than moderate alcohol content – she proposes that a governmental monopoly should be established around cannabis sales in Denmark.

chances are not bad the next german elections could have a positive impact on legalisation efforts in germany. if you can vote in germany this coming weekend, you really should: if the centre-right CDU (main opponent of legalisation) is voted out of government this time, it looks la lot more likely some kind of progress can happen - all other parties likely to form a new government have at least some variation on legalisation efforts / or support of trial projects in their current program.

and if you should feel extra-motivated: der deutsche hanfverband has started a call to write to your local candidates for the bundestag to push interest in this matter across partisan lines - they have pre-formulated letters and a handy search engine to get the contact details of your local representatives. just copy / paste & send. https://hanfverband.de/zeit-fuer-legalisierung

This is not entirely true either. If there is any sort of regulation present (lights, filters etc) professional trade is being assumed and you're fucked. Also, this is so crooked for medicinal users that get their plants taken away again and again, which have to go to pharma for pain relief, but then with severe side-effects. It just grinds my gears.

Europe should hurry the fuck up and get their shit together already.

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
The only time legalization occurs in the US is when the people have some real involvement in changing the laws, such as public referendums. Our political system is way too corrupt to forge any real change through the legislators. I hope for better situations for our friends across the pond.

Adults in Luxembourg will be permitted to grow up to four cannabis plants in their homes or gardens under laws that will make it the first country in Europe to legalise production and consumption of the drug. Under the legislation, people aged 18 and over will be able to legally grow up to four cannabis plants per household for personal use.

A legal prohibition of the consumption and transport of cannabis or cannabis products in public will be maintained and trade in cannabis or cannabis products other than seeds, whether free of charge or in return for payment, remains prohibited. Under a softening of the law, the consumption and transport of a quantity of up to 3 grams will no longer be considered a criminal offence, but classified as misdemeanour.

The good aspect is that with techniques like SCROG, one single plant can cover a very large surface. And lesser known, with grafting, it is possible to have one mother plant with good root stock bear branches of any number of other varieties, preserving their distinct tastes and qualities while getting a more homogeneous cycle time. Thus circumventing the N number of plants limitation.
