Here you say its open source and anyone can make it from parts they get anywhere.

Here you seem to imply legal action for someone doing that?
Well legal actions sounds like too much time and energy for someone who probably doesnt have a business registration.
There was this story, where The Elev8r maker threatened RBT cause he thought he had a patent violation from the XLR8,which was hilarious, patent of what ,dimples ? Any as @Cheebsy mentioned it is a tough job when the design is preexisting . I had to school them a bit on what exactly is a Gn0me heater, haha even after the dissappearance of the maker some people ,including me were making Gn0ckoffs ,way before XLR8 and ELE8r were on the market. Even you can see i have made something very similar to Elev8tor years before it apperance , test tube vape in the DIY section ,so that patent talk was looking even funnier . There are enough dimples for everyone FFS...
What is not nice from that seller is USING the REFC brandname so he can sell something that he DIYed, and also copied exact concept,i see some grounds for legal action, but still i dont think it is worth it for a single sale,i leave that to people who can do the math, but i really doubt you could put a patent on using balls and bulbs in a glass joint ,due to analogy with the dimples story.
Back in the days there were the "log wars" people influenced by the Ettera design ,were blaming each other for building on theirs. :D...Probably Vaporbrothers felts the same way about DBV. Nowadays those have become just a style and there are many different variations :). AS far as i know the only vaporizer company acutually decided to sue someone on patent violation were the Volcano which lead to the downfall of the Herbalizer, but they could really afford and probably herbalizer was a real treat from a competative point of view.

Have there been any emails about new kits being in stock? The site asks for a sign up but I saw a post earlier saying they were just being added now and then. I signed up three weeks ago and haven't received any emails.

There was a drop on Aug 22, I had only signed up a week or two before that so I'm not sure on the frequency.

I was also wondering this.
I think I signed up- but that website really has it in for robots, seems like they rather have no subscribers than 1 robot has a chance to get it's hands (claws, appendages?) on a Highlighter, ha ha.
This is obviously serious tech, so I wants it...
Anyway, what I mean to say is I did not receive any type of confirmation email after 4 attempts so I am not really sure if I have subscribed.
Is a confirmation email meant to be generated?

@Improvaper and @4everpushingaboulder thanks much. Great work !
You inspired me . Here is a few pics of mine so far. Next I will see just how much wood I can remove from the top piece .
Improvaper sent the link to the pepper grinder, as a grinder gag or so, I suggested turning it as a HLT's cover. and man, he did it SO well (you too tho) . I really want one too. and will practice my.. drilling skills tho? is it needed there? how's the process of turning it as a cover? ;)

Really quick and easy. All I used was a sharp knife and that was only because I wanted the dc connector within the bottom.I did the other one today and drilled a hole at the bottom for the wires to come out and that was it. One hole for wires.I used 3 orig s spaced on bottom third of the core and simple pulled up into place. Nice and snug fit. After 7 hours I could hold the mill at the very top bare handed with no problem. Anything below the top third was pretty much room temp.

Well i have succesfully used dc jacks with built in cables in many of my builds. That us some chinese site, but i betyou can find them locally too. Just look for lower AWG number/ thicker leads/

18AWG should do,but maybe add shrinkwrap for the wires.

Not as secure as secure as screw terminals, but it has a groove so it can be mounted.

I suggest you review the thread and see what the maker is doing even with the same item#'s from same vendors but different shipment lots that were built differently.

What I'm trying to say is, go ahead and buy similar components yourself, but leave it on for xyz amount of time may not be the best for it (maybe it's better but I highly doubt it) vs the actual parts op is shipping out. He clearly is doing the homework to make things as safe as it could be for diy.

Thx for your suggestion i was just trying to helpful with a potential models of jacks . I have near zero interest in this concept or schooling someone on what to do or doing his homework,i am just avid DIYer for years,my opensource DIY thread for Halo-log is started back in 2018,sadly photos have gone to shit. I have also experience with the same shitty melting jacks... and the issue is already described in my thread.I have tried all these in differnt builds and many more,so i just thought i share my experience. Maybe someone has a bad jack and doesnt want to wait for a restock and just order some locally.
Edited: I recommend buying from a local or even physical store over ordering from abroad. That way you can at least go to the shop ask for a refund or else when you get a lemon. The responsibility of most chinese sellers ends with the package leaving their warehouse.

You guys are all missing the point ☝️, keep suggesting other stuff, wait till someone reads it all kits it together using your recommendations and then worst case happens.

Good luck, I'm sure everyone has time to test certain components and also have a thermal infrared camera to help troubleshoot why the wattage/current/amp is not consistent for the bulb

Just wanted to put in my feedback here. I'm a fan of all @RedEyeFlightControl's stuff. Despite my collection of vapes, I've been using an OG Flowerpot as my daily driver. Nothing really hits like it.

I purchased the highlighter and only yesterday put it together. The first video he posted makes it pretty easy/obvious to put it together.

Full bowl in the basket and I have not had anything slap me so hard. After three bowls, I started to forget what I was doing. I'll have to retire my flowerpot and just keep this on my desk.

Wow. If you haven't tried as of yet, nominal investment to beat out what you may be using.

In my world of not needing another vape, I found the vape I need.

Setting aside the Flowerpot? Now that's an endorsement. Any other differences to report besides the Highlighter slapping hard?

I can't compare this to the flowereater, vrod, but with my OG flowerpot, I get a nice hard hit on the first time at the bowl.

I can hit the bowl a second time and get some decent vapor.

That is it.

With the Highlighter, I definitely need to try and get the glass beads to fill some of the empty space. With my not-perfect install, if I take a long slow draw, I have to stop I get so much vapor. I can hit it a few times and extract more out of it.

I'll post color of the AVB tonight.

Definitely worth the price at the sub $100 price point. There is nothing I know that hits like this.

If you need to go comatose ---->>>> Highlighter

:) I thought those cameras are for measuring temperature, i can sense it with my finger i dont need a camera, and also have a multimeter for the reads.
There are two main reasons why some jacks are bad or go bad over time. On those screw terminals the reason behind it all is the softness of the tube for the negative contact, when it gets deformed the plug starts to wiggle inside and this leads to decreased surface contact which leads to hotspotting and melting. In those jacks with wires ,thin wires are the cultprit. Some of those stuff are designed for led strips which reflect much less heat on the wiring then resistive loads, like coils/halogen bulbs.
Anyway you have warned people about my suggestions,it is not like you gonna get electrecuted by 12v DC,worst case is really a melted jack lol... , some people might decide it is worth a calculated risk . Also disregard if you want but i do have experience with that kind of stuff and i think that based on it my suggestions are worth considering.

I was in the same boat, very happy with what I was using.
Just reading about the Highlighter convinced me it was a game changer.
I think I was the first retail customer to get one up and running... Haven't used anything else for flower since.

Hits like a sledgehammer and is also a top notch microdoser.

Hi all,

RedEyeFlightControl here, to introduce the next vaporizer release from REFC-Labs.com and friends!

The HighLighTED - The HighLighter Thermal Extraction Device

This project took about 6 months and was recently completed by the Scientifically Higher Design Collective (also including @khelek41girl APwinger, Ketheptis, and @AWistfulNihilist )

-A brief history-

Halogen heaters have always been a desirable concept, as well as a highly performant heat source. Our dev group decided to pursue a side project that one of its members really wanted, so we designed a DIY kit to make available a highly-performant, clean, simple, cheap, and easily repair/replaceable Log style heater core module, which could be used any way as the pilot desires. Over the course of 6 months or so, this design has been peer- refined, upgraded, tested, and re-tested by industry leading inventors/makers/manufacturers.

Current release is tentatively 2-3 weeks from now as early-access users and influencers begin posting information / pics / videos of this heater.

-Current Status-

The HighLighter is a DIY Kit. It is designed to be as easy as possible to assemble, while requiring little to no prior knowledge to build. It requires only several common tools, and every component is a commodity piece of hardware, meaning you should always be able to find parts, regardless of whether it's from my store, or one of the other dev's stores. Our goal was to make this as attainable as possible, to the largest group as possible. Kits will be sold in batches to start, to ensure there are no major launch issues, and that proper support and guidance can be given as needed. I'm expecting to do 20 a week to start. This may very well change if/when this project ramps up.

Wood heat shields (as pictured in some of my IG posts) will start becoming available as an upgrade option. The naked core performs very well, however, a heat shield provides not only a caloric retention upgrade, but a beautiful and unique way to hold and display your core.

The reasons for this decision were three fold - one , the devs of this project have limited bandwidth and may not be able to crank these out as often as we'd like, given expected demand. Two, naked core performance is good enough where the heat shield is not necessary, so those who don't want to drop premium cash for a premium piece of wood or the upgrade in performance, don't need to .

Three, this is an open invite to all other makers, wood turners, artisans, manufacturers - to come and play along in making and selling heat shields!

That's right! I'll be providing the heat shield dimensional spec to whomever wants it - I want to see what other community members can offer for our little core project. Have fun, go mad, design something cool and sell it! We want the whole community to have a part in benefiting from this and we feel the heat shield is the way to do it. This also lets the buyer buy a heat shield from their preferred artist, and sends that artist business! I see this as an absolute win.

-And the other things-

I also make and manufacture the JetDryV, and vend a number of vapes, accessories, and parts, including rigs, spare glass, torches, and an assortment of Custom Dynavap Titanium (one of my other specialties). I am an authorized retailer of Elev8, Dynavap, Pulsar Premium Glass, S&B, Stache, RAW, GRAV, ACE LABZ, Molicel, and other big names. If you don't see it listed, and think it's worthy of the lab, drop me a line and we can talk!. My business is continually growing while I curate the best of the very best for everyone, so please check back from time to time as new products are regularly added to the store.

I'll do my best to answer questions objectively.

The HighLighter Kit will be available at retail pricing (soon, when in stock) here:

Individual spare parts will be listed soon, as well.

Please follow my IG or subscribe to my site newsletter to be the first to know about availability!

All the best,

Red

Thanks for the interest!

no success with a thin bowl for me, but just starting out. full smack in the face works for me. can't even hold a conversation after taking a few hits.

Hahahaha Shine a light... you guys!!!

I could be tempted, really.... but I am UK based an it's not so simple... shipping, taxes, blah blah bore bore...

edit: I am quite capable of sourcing parts, I build electronics here and there, so it's possible I could recreate this here, I am going to have to give this some thought! Thank you for the positive vibes :)
