Couldn't refuse Terp Pen v2 at $10 from PIU. Been looking for an option for high flavor, less hard hitting dabs and hope this will do the job when using it as a nectar collector. Time to mine this thread for tips...
Excellent price! I paid twice that (still great value) last week!
There's a separate thread btw, for the regular terp pen v2. I just put a new coil in mine and it tastes excellent.

Thanks, yeah I realized that there was a separate thread when I finally read thru this one. But I'm interested enough in quartz impressions that I'm sure I'll hang out over here a bit...

Gotta say, I've been loving the XL! It's pushed my two OG's to the back and only get used by my GF for pain once a month. The moment I saw it drop to $30 at PIU, I ordered a second before the first had arrived and glad I did!

I'm really excited to try the quartz whenever they're available. The tapping and changing of temps is a pain, but I've gotten used to checking the temp before I hit. A little extra work but worth it to me.

Now that they've moved beyond no settings and inhale only activation, I really wish they would have just put a button on it. My ideal would be a button with a lit ring around it showing the LED color in lieu of that pinhole they have! It was bad enough that it's a pinhole, but they also put it at the end of my nose, I feel crossed eyed trying to see it in anything but a darker room. Maybe in V2?

That said, bigger battery and small temp adjustments and a larger coil make it well worth it in my book.

Yeah seriously only been waiting like a year at this point 🥺🙄
It is a shame to have to wait so long.
Eric was nice enough to send one to me last year and newb that I am to concentrate pens I didn't see any huge advantage to it.
It led me to thinking about how sometimes it seemed to take a few secs to heat up (that's regardless of the coil in XL, I think).
So, I tried putting a coil from a standard terp pen into the XL. I happen to like it a lot, I think it's more responsive; heats and cools faster than the bigger ones. Maybe doesn't hold quite so much load of wax, but I also think that can be a good thing, in terms of condensate developing in the vapor path.

Hello,

I have tested the quartz coils extensively, in my opinion they are far better than the OG coils.

With the standard coils, with 2 or 3 puffs, the taste is degrading, with this typical burn taste that all the ceramic pen coils had.

With the quartz coils, the tatste is never changing and i found that fantastic.

The only problem with the Terp Pen (XL or not) is the cleaning....and the loss of my oil !!!!!!!!!:(

Look my photo : under the coils and inside the housing, the build-up / amount of oil that is wasted in this device is just unacceptable.

And the cleaning is not easy, there is oil all over inside the device.

I hope that there will a new version with less loss...and easy cleaning (like the Loookah seahorse pro, which is a very fast and cleaning device).

That is because the original only holds 2 to 3 puffs (2-3 puffs then dip), any more is overloading and will cause waste as you show in the pic. I did not like the quartz on the OG Terp pen as I had to overfill it to get decent clouds and ended up with a mess like the picture above (the large quartz atty may work better with the XL, I do not know).

Cleaning more often is usually an easier path.
Though you are amassing enough to get some reclaim, doesn't sound like that would suit your tastes!

@GoGlass, not trying to be too critical here; I have a hard time following this advice, but,
I think the TP can function most efficiently and stay a little cleaner if you are more frugal with it (not so easy, for sure). Use it as a one (or two)-hitter, don't plow it into the concentrate too long trying to load as much as possible into the coil, I think that provides more 'excess' vapor that will condense in the vapor path.

I was thinking yesterday of how this is similar to oils cartridges (like Ruby, Dart, etc) and how easily they get clogged. One recommendation for mitigating this is to take shorter draws and let the device cool for a few extra secs between draws...

I have experience like @LesPlenty (with only the xl quartz, haven't tried an og TP). I found my preference to be the std coil; I actually use a std coil in an XL TP, I think it heats even faster, provides plenty of heat, and handles smaller amounts more efficiently.
All very scientific guesses at this point.

In fairness, sometime I'll pick up a quartz coil for the og and give it a spin.

@LesPlenty thanks for your advices, i must confess that i use the TerpPen in the opposite way of what you say..... Big hits, i'am not waiting between hits, and i "plug" the coil in my glass oil container....everything wrong ???!!!!

I will try to follow your advices , thanks for your help !

Anyway the design of the airpath in this device is at a thousand miles of a device like the Lookah seahorse pro, for example. (I can clean it in 30sec !!!!)
But the lookah has 'standard' ceramic coils and not terrible taste........

I dream of a device like the Lookah Seahorse Pro but with the Quartz coils of the Terp Pen XL, it will be the ultimate electronic nectar collector !!!!!

Hi All,

After testing some returned units out this week we are finding that there are two main issues going on. The first is when the unit blinks 10 times after a draw. The 10 blinking red light indicates low battery capacity. If this is happening to your unit please give it another full charge with the coil unscrewed from the battery. Let the unit charge for a few hours and if the led light turns off while charging, unplug and plug back in for a few more minutes. To check to see if your unit is performing correctly after recharging try a burn-off hit on blue or green. When on the blue, after a full draw the led will blink blue 3 times. Same with green and red but it is easiest to test this on blue and green. If there is still no difference in the performance of your unit feel free to contact me and we will get this replaced. This has worked for all the returns that I have received so far that experience the 10 blinking red led issue and has also worked with newly opened units that I have here at the office experiencing this issue.

Another issue we have seen is an alternating red to green led light when taking a draw. This indicates a faulty coil connect. This can be fixed by adjusting the metal pin on the bottom of the heating element or popping out the metal pin and checking to see if the wires are properly connected. One wire should sit outside of the silicone grommet and the other wire should sit inside to touch the metal pin and grommet. If you are experiencing this issue please message me and I can help out further.

I hope this helps. If you would like to message me via email to discuss this further please do so at Eric@bndlstech.com.
Is it normal to have to unscrew the coil a bit for it to work? When fully installed, I get the alternating flashing, or "bad contact"..but if I unscrew it a little, then it works...seems odd...

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.

You'll need to back read this thread for specifics because I don't remember, but this pen was plagued with some electronic glitches. Maybe they have worked it out at Boundless IDK. It kept me away from this pen. I can say that the OG Terp pen is one of the best devices in the vape world for its niche as a quick and discreet hitter. In the next gen they chose to go bigger when I wish they tried to go smaller. :2c:
