Discontinued Hopper io

I have been such a vocal supporter of HL over the years and throughout ownership of four units...so much so in fact....that I have been accused of being a paid shill. Well....I now own two io's...and my latest titanium version purchased in January has never worked properly. It was sent back for repair immediately upon receipt and returned to me with the same poor functionality. I have now been told that they are sending me a 'part' since March 17th with only poor and intermittent communications....and I still have no parts...nothing shipped.... and thus still a non working (new) unit. Very sad in my opinion....a potentially great product absolutely destined for failure. If they can turn me from a fan-boy to my current state of opinions....HL almost has to purposefully neglect and mistreat me....and it appears that they have done just that. I'm pissed and should have known better.

This is sad to hear. I thought they were doing better.

The Hopper circle, from fanboy to hate poster. Happened so many times to so many people it was really only a matter of time before it happened to you too...sad to lose another loyal customer, but nothing will change.

I tried a Davinci IQ for a few months. Went back to the GH for multiple reasons. Upgraded to the GH IO, even better. Still, considering the service quality issues, I'm always looking for options. Have any of you GH users found another portable device that compares in terms of hit quality, efficiency, or ease of operation? Thanks!

I would say the Tinymight. Even easier to load and unload (suck/blow through the stem), better cooling and better flavor using it native.

FYI, I had a malfunction with my previous GH in Q3 last year. Rather than fix it, HL made me a reasonable offer to upgrade to the IO. Maybe that's the best way to upgrade.

Hey, you og owners, now is the time to upgrade! Not too shabby.
$265 - 80 = 185 X .75 = 138.75
Thanks, and thanks for the math :). Odd that they didn’t send out email (yet?) for 4/20 promotion like they have in the past. Tempting to trade in my working OG but I’ll hold onto it. My IO still shines 8+ months and counting. Had a surreal experience with it the other day - the battery just kept on going, and going, and going. Several loads, wonderful clouds, nice taste (on lower temps), and even AVB. Not much more could I ask for (except a Tetra P80, lol!). Cheers! :peace:

EDIT: I have and LOVE my Tinymight. Vapor is much cooler but a Hopper will always have a place in my heart and vape roster.

For all the suckers out there that are ready to put everything on the table!

Hopper has a 4/20 sale you can use the code "Happy420" at checkout.

Fun fact: I just go this newsletter (after I bought for full price a month ago) and they called me "trev". Which is not my name, actually far from it. 🤣

“Trev” is/was one of the co-founders. Confusion reigns still within their customer service, lol. :peace:

They are telling all OG warranty claims they are unable to receive the device due to covid, but offer to upgrade you. So if you want a hopper you have no choice. Clearly trying to get all the faulty OG off the market at users cost. Lifetime warranty comes back to haunt when you have an inherently defective device. Previously they were happy to take it back even if they knew it would be months before they look at it, so clearly a plan is underway. It stinks, and be warned I upgraded but my io is not performing out of the box.

if you like the conduction from the IQ, try the Firewood7;
If you let it heat without drawing for a sec, it's part of the small club of mouth-to-lung vapes that deliver.

Quick question regarding batteries. I bought a special battery loading device that charges with 5 ampere. However it seems to me that the so called battery safe mode from the hopper io starts when the battery is at around 40% capacity. I am not able to get any hot air anymore but when I put the battery into the loading device it shows that the capacity is still > 40%. I would understand 20% but 40%?

It also takes only less then an hour to load the battery with the device. If I do that with the usb cable it will take up to 2,5 hours.

We've seen that io problems have been handled pretty quick, unlike the hopper saga. Hope yours gets cleared up soon.
HL has tried to explain that this is really the only way to move forward. The alternative is for all of us to suck wind and let the company and product die. Some would prefer that, while others see this a long ride, watching and supporting the development of the Grasshopper.
To be sure, it has really sucked at times.
Many of us here, for years, have warned others of the pitfalls of hopper involvement.
Any monies I have given to HL have been in the interest of moving the product forward, and getting to enjoy the ride. So, I enjoyed hopping for several years (with a lot of bumps in the road, to be sure) and then upgraded to the next generation, the current io for what was actually a reasonable cash outlay, as I usually wait for the sales. (like now). I have had 2 warranty claims on one io in 8 months, and zero complaints on another for 5 months.

@ShayWhiteGrow, thanks for the recent video. It sold me on the Bubbler and I've asked whether they have them in stock, I'm ready!

I would understand 20% but 40%?
I think this is normal for these high drain battery devices. I use 18650's in a box mod for a Splinter V1 and they don't give much vapor when down to about 3.7 volts ('full' is 4.2), which seems to be around the same as a 'discharged' hopper battery. I think it depends on application, and how Full(100%) and Empty(?%) might be defined.

Almost there...
Decided to try the lowest setting possible on the dial. Has anyone else done this?
Blue Hopper io still milks my water tool! Crazy!
3 hits and I tapped out and this was the resulting ABV.

I cannot believe how it extracts at the lowest temp!
Anything over 3 is insanity on my device.

So do I just need to initiate the warranty claim as my way of contacting them? This seems like a reasonable way to move forward. Thanks in advance....

Food for discussion. I pack it full of finely ground dry sativa then get 11-12 hits on each load. Fine and dry works best for me. I get one hit at each half-mark (5 marks & 4 spaces means 9 hits) then 2-3 more at max temp before it loses it's punch. Starting at the lowest temp with full fresh load, I get very little vapor at the lowest temp but the flavor is overwhelming. Surprisingly I get less flavor and more vapor by the 3rd or 4th hit, and the heavy vapor continues on every hit until I finish and dump the diminished dark brown load (now maybe 80% full). Used to decide how many hits to get per load, decided that if the taste is less sweet it must be finished. One day I decided to keep hitting it until it isn't satisfying. I loved my original unit (OM?), using the IO now and it seems to be more reliable for me. The 10th hit is just a powerful as the 4th hit. In fact you should get just what you want with each hit by drawing the right amount of time. Admittedly, one needs strong lungs to pull long enough to heat the chamber, especially with a full load.

So did everyone get the HL 4/20 email today, 2 days prior to said date, addresses to “Trev”? That’s not my name. Someone a couple of days ago mentioned this and I don’t recall if it was related to the promo or not. May have been different but regardless, 2 days prior to the sale and the salutation with the email is pretty poor. I’ll leave it at that.

On the positive side my IO continues to shine and perform well 8+ months and counting. Really nice vapor almost every draw. May break out the OG soon and take it for a spin - I’m scared to leave it sit too long, lol. :peace:

Sorry, idr your circumstance, but I'd say if you have an issue with a device, that's the way to go.
For general business use the support email.

@JBone65 , you don't need to draw continuously for a long period to get big vapor. At thd beginning of a hit you can take several small primer puffs, since almost no vapor is happening at that point. When vapor stars coming on, draw in earnest.
In my opinion, fine grind and tight pack will clog your device in the long term. And, those are better for loading a conduction vape. I would choose fewer, better tasting/easier drawing hits, and just filling twice.
Everybody's going to find something that works best for them. Some folks finish a chamber in one big bong hit...others will sip the identical load for ten hits...

I hear you VapViking. Still this way works best for me. The full load adds 40-50% more hits compared to a 70% load. I think the finer grind releases more thc as well. Drier works better for me, fresh moist weed resulted in a build up of resin over time, plus I can reload in 1/4 the time, ~60 seconds. I'm not sipping, getting 11-12 genuine strong hits. Just figured out that I was throwing away good weed, as if tossing a long roach out the window, so started taking more hits until it quit. Even ignoring the cost impact (even if you have a full greenhouse) why shut down to reload when the next hit will get the job done? Although the hit gets better as the load heat's up, there is vapor in the first puff. I'm in my 4th year with a Hopper, and I'm getting more stoned with less weed. Not trying to be confrontational, just wondering if anyone else is wringing out every last bit like I am.
