Discontinued Hopper io

My clicker may be acting funny on the Ti IO. Cleaned the threads and tried different batteries but keep having intermittent shut offs. Click again and back to heating, but it’s starting to happen nearly every load now.
Seems like the same issues I have had. It will quit altogether eventually. Tell Hopper. They will send you a new one.

My io (that just failed) was also getting wonky in the rear end, if I might put it that way. :\
For me the issue more often was going to 'lights on' mid-session without being clicked, then not going off until clicked repeatedly. It's a little disconcerting to think it might power on randomly in your pocket.

Their site says November when you go to purchase one.
I wonder if anyone here can give us a concrete example of any projection HL has ever made (not counting 'in stock', 'ships in 1-2 days' ,etc.) on their product pages that has been accurate, requiring no revisions later when the item is overdue?
I can't think of any.

Sounds like a snarky question. I don't intend it that way, and I'm not fishing for snarky answers; this may be a learning opportunity for some members, maybe even for me.
Anyone?

Hi, Joe, nice to see you around these parts.
Having been on a similar trajectory, I feel a need to add some balance to the conversation.
I also traded-up for an io; it was shipped to me on June 30, or about 90 days ago. It did not work, but HL sent a new, in-box replacement right out. So far, so good.
The replacement was working great and my confidence was well on the way to restoration after all these years.
Yesterday the io stopped working. When clicked on, it sometimes shows the light, but that quickly goes off. That's all it will do. Kaput. I've emailed support and we'll see what happens, but I doubt they'll just rush another one out to me; I'll mail it in and be without for how long? Maybe just a couple of weeks.
So, 90 days divided by 2 io's means an average life of 45 days per io?
No, we can't generalize from one customer's experience, but...

In the meantime, I'm ordering a second Vleaf Go (on sale for $53, shipped).
That's a "poor mans' hopper". It works.
Hey VapKing, nice to be run into. This place is like walking into an old cigar store now. LOL
I'm really sorry to hear about your IO experience. I have not allowed myself to assume these guys have redeemed themselves yet, BUT the real test, my friend, is how they treat your warranty, how fast they act on it. I want to hear about that!

Meanwhile, whoa, what's this Vleaf Go? I just browsed the website... Is this thing good? I mean, compared to how the IO is supposed to work? It may not be as cool and industrial looking as the IO but hell if it does the job well, I'd buy one.

That ship sailed a long time ago, I sent emails every month since last year and every time they said "next month for sure" I changed my order to plain Ti and got it next week.

I wouldn't be surprised if the colored ones won't be coming until coronavirus is gone, or at least starts significantly improving, which let's be honest probably isn't going to start happening until after November (January)

I am really glad that real guns are much more reliable than a Dope Gun(TM). My newest IO vapes great but the damned button still fucks up now and then. This is number three. The first one quit heating completely and the second would turn on and off whenever it felt like it. Let’s see how long this one lasts. This IO was a gift from a good friend so I have to go through him to warranty it but even with that Hopper Labs has been right on the mark with sending a replacement unit and waiting for us to return the malfunctioning unit upon receipt of the new one.
I still use my Hoppers over every other vape I own almost every time. I used to take my Dynavap but I find the Hopper IO, a couple spare batteries and the Hopper Feeder are just so damned convenient to stick in my pocket and go.
You are a DopeGun(TM) man now.

You are a DopeGun(TM) man now.
I know. And it could lead to an issue. If Hoppers are no more what would I replace it with? Nothing compares. I would wander aimlessly around the vape market like a junkie looking for that first buzz until another experimental DopeGun(TM) is developed from alien spaceship propulsion technology.

I'm quoting myself from one I wrote few days ago, when I thought my io had gone 'belly up' and I was all out-of-sorts about it. But it is not broken, it was my fault for not remembering the light behaviors!
HL responded to my distress email, suggesting that it may be a battery or charge issue; they asked if my batteries were good (they are very recent, btw).
I swapped the battery and the io came on just fine

I rarely let the battery go all the way down -- I tend to charge after 1 to 3 bowls, almost always using the stock charge cable. I had gone farther and when I 'charged' it, for some reason it had not really gone through a charge cycle (maybe usb needed to be re-set?).
Regardless, when I clicked it on and it showed brief white, then dark, I thought the worst had happened, but it was only a depleted battery.

Happily hopping along once again, apologies to HL for the "fake news".

I really thought with the hopper io -withstanding my daily abuse since June July supported by a 2nd one as backup- I could clear up my vaporizer arsenal and sell most, if not even all of them and their accessories. I was wrong. There is still some use for the pensioned vape parts. The Hopper with Vapman mouthpiece secured with a 5mm silicone tube cut from a black Minivap flexicone+ just stuck in the PFE:

Feels much better than a drip tip, imo, since it’s a lot smaller between the lips. Holds tight enough to unscrew the PFE while holding the vapmans mouthpiece. Nearly impossible to just pull it out.

I prefer small mouthpieces like the Vapcap, Crafty or Vapman-size, just feels best to me. I tried different drip tips, most of them didn’t make a firm connection to the PFE and all of them felt too big somehow. I’m still looking for a SS Drip Tip in the right size since I’m unsure about the POMs max temperature which is around 120-150*C. The hopper emits a lot more heat than a Vapman so I ordered a wooden mouthpiece. The MFLB glass straw fits perfectly in the PFE with the flexicone as gasket, too, but is very long for outdoors and could possibly brake.

Btw, I always wondered which purpose the so called “nutrition pocket” on my backpack could fulfill. Couldn’t think of any „nutrition“ I need at hand. There you go:

All who wander are not lost...
If the following is (close to) correct then I’ve come to realize owning an IO for 3+ weeks why I’m getting great clouds with moderate effect:

220-430F 130-230C
1-220F;130C
2-272.5; 155
3-325; 180
4-377.5; 205
5-430; 230

I’m a big native user and seldom use cooling/filtration. Didn’t use much of it with my OG Hopper (Ti) and hadn’t used much with my Ti IO. For 3+ weeks I’ve had no issues with my IO: nice clouds, even AVB, unit stays cool to the touch (except occasionally back-to-back draws with the PFE the PFE gets very warm; native frontend has stayed relatively cool); vapor is indeed very warm and a touch hot. And I’ve been running my IO under 3.5 and usually below 3. But the medicinal effect has been lacking - because the temp is too low.

Last night I briefly used a small glass spoon pipe for cooling. It works. Temp was higher than usual and, briefly, effect was much better! I wish I could use the IO natively at a higher temp without irritating vapor but it’s been elusive for me - and the effects have been meh. More testing needed for sure. What’s interesting is that the IO has a different temp range than the OG, the latter starts higher but doesn’t go as high as the IO. Just some mid week observations. Testing continues. I like the IO and so far performance is great - and no operational issues - but running it on low temps isn’t cutting the mustard for me. My OG Hopper, now 4+ years old, seemed to have more kick at relatively low temps even after its lone RMA. I appreciate the IO’s added heater power but it doesn’t translate well at low temps for me. :peace:

today i opend a problem on paypal with Hopper Labs

because i want to get back 696,40 dollar from Hopper Labs because the delivery never arrives me. + i will get back 75 dollar fedex shipping costs for a 2nd replacement delivery which never sent out

i opend 2nd problem on paypal with Hopper Labs because they about 1 week ago they asked for another 75 euro shipping costs for fedex for a replacement delivery, although i already paid 45 dollars for usps which unfortunately was unfairly not taken into account. So I paid shipping costs twice. i did this just so as not to lose nearly $ 700 and finally get the goods. but the shipping label has been printed for about 1 week, but the package is not sent.

i will get my over 770 dollars back, not more. i am done with...

may be it helps others who are planning to buy there..

I am glad you decided to work with Hopper as the way you approached me was not going to get you anywhere. I understand you are frustrated but you need to consider the issue here, who is responsible for the issue, who can impact the issue and behave accordingly.

So since I did in fact log your case (even though I had not told you that yet) I am familiar with the details here and I feel its only fair to share considering the tone and focus of you message here. (@sativs was upset I had not responded to his note within 24 hours, I was at 26 hours before I told him I wouldn't help him based on his approach, but I had already logged his case.)

Your first shipment was sent. It is likely sitting in your country's customs clearance area. Customs delays are very common. I have seen packages take nearly two months to go through in some places. It's even worse with the pandemic now. It happens. It's not Hopper's fault. It's not USPS fault. But I get it, you want your shipment.

So you throw a tantrum and Trevor agrees to reship everything at his expense! But you want FedEx now so that is even more expensive. Hopper should have to pay that too? You realize it's highly likely you receive BOTH shipments but only pay for one in this scenario? What would you do if that happened? Would you give it back to Hopper? Would you pay the return postage yourself or should Hopper have to for helping you out?

Why the second shipment has not gone, well there are several reasons I can think of but I don't know exactly what it is. I do know that it's not an effort for Hopper to screw you over like the picture you are trying to paint here.

This is a HUGE reason I didn't ship international when VGoodiez first started. I dealt with several scenarios where customs sat on shipments and customers want to blame it on the shipper going as so far as to chargeback the order (see PayPal equivalent referenced above). It is not the sellers best interest to screw the customer and to me it's clear that Hopper was going above and beyond here. But even then....you get scenarios like this where the items will likely land in the customers lap without having paid a dime under the protection of PayPal.

Just thought it would be fair to provide some alternative perspective here.....

I'm psycho for these killers

four-hopper-io.jpg

Four Ti io horsemen for this apocalypse. Can you say "ownership bias?" I scored 3 of them from the ever helpful @VGOODIEZ , fast order processing/shipping

One of them has AC assist, recently received from Max
His machinist still has my loaner io, so he must like it

(Good show at Wollman rink, pre Donald rehab. Never saw so many skinny black ties. Then unknown B52s were warmup band. Can't resist riffing off-topic, sorry @Stu )

I too would be interested to see how quick the service is without intervening. Let me know if you need help guys.
I wish you really could help. You tried to help me, and I'm grateful, but HL got back to me to basically tell me to go scratch myself. They've had a broken hopper of mine for two years, and when I requested it back they said something along the lines of maybe getting to it next year. They also took money from me for the mythical charger. I'm sorry to say this, but they simply operate in bad faith, and that is putting it the most polite way I possibly can. I was an early adopter, years ago, and it pains me to still hear people talking about "Hopper Roulette" and so on. They designed a pretty good device, when it works, but everything about what they do is contemptuous of their customers. I'd like to feel more charitable about this, but can no longer find it in me.

Absolutely respect the sentiment but I still have faith or I would be taking a hit on my reputation and helping them.

There is no argument that they F'd up a lot of things but it's clear to me the effort is being made to survive and make good with everyone or I wouldn't be helping.

At this point in the game I feel if the io doesn't survive and bring them through this, they will go down. At that point everyone loses. At least this way they have a chance to make good.

As I say, I'm grateful for your efforts and your honest appraisal. I'm not losing sleep about it, just sort of saddened. But I suppose the bottom line is that I hope good fortune comes to them and all who've participated in the project.
