I'll have to do a cross section for proof... but here are prelim conclusions from many years of woodworking, carpenter and PD builder experience...
Plant Oil and Bee's Wax products like mine only penetrate 1/8" to 1/4" from the surface they are applied to.

Lip says, "It says in the manual that the plug/cord is broken if the wall unit is warm?" No, that is not what was said. The wall power supply is supposed to be warm, I think if you re-read you will see that. Feel any of the other wall warts or power supplies in your house, they are all warm...
Lip, the re-seating tool is used for two things. If you drop the unit hard, on it's top, and the clips are forced out of position as described earlier, you insert the tool and give it a whack to put the displaced clips back in place and re-secure the Heat Exchanger. There is no need to use this...
Like I said, we have a liberal warranty and you , just don't want to go that route. I'm sure you have your reasons, so there isn't much we can do to help you. Good luck with your repairs. :2c:
There is a stainless steel sleeve that you cannot see, under the heat exchanger top disk (the disk with two holes) . The top disk is sandwiched tightly between the sleeve and the two clips. Sandwiched tight.
Of course gravity will keep the heat exchanger against the sleeve in the case of...
The reason I keep saying impact is because those clips hold tight and it takes considerable force to move the 1/4" that you say ... it's simple physics.
I also posted that your unit was wrapped in instructions ( for original purchaser) and that if you had any questions you were instructed to...
