Like you, I use mine between 2-5 without water filtration, and it make me cough a lot. Now, with water filtration, I can Use it between 4-6 without cough or sore throat. I did'nt use a screen. But like I said, Volcano make me cough too... For minimize the sore throat, I used to drink a lot.
