Haven't encountered a less than full battery icon after charging. I do recommend an external charge, however. You can turn it off by hitting the power button 5 times quickly, same as turning it on. That will end the session.

Battery in there correct side up? Should give you an LED indicator showing the battery power level when you screw the cap on tight enough. Try taking the battery out and placing it back in while unplugged and screwing the cap back on. Did the led light up? What color?

Conduction. It would only need to be touching the underside of the oven to conduct heat. They don't need to share air flow. I don't know that this is the case, but that would be how.
