As long as you re-wrap the battery with PVC heat shrink you are good to go. I posted links a couple posts above for the wrap you need. Look on youttube to see how to do it. Very simple.

The battery chamber should never get that hot or something is seriously wrong with your hopper. Also would be very bad for the battery if it gets that hot. The wrapping already on the battery is PVC so would most likely have the same specs. You wouldn't be making the battery thicker since...
