Incidentally, the crafty seems to be charging much quicker as well for some reason. Like, it's done within 40 minutes, but doesn't seem to last. I also tried the 10-sec factory reset which happened but didn't seem to change much.
Hi guys, @JCat and @simpleCraftyCase - I just did a new battery replacement and seem to be in the same boat. Somehow the new battery holds even less charge than the old one, so I'm not even able to get the single bowl from it that I could with the old one. Did you ever figure out a workaround...

I think you are right about the current doubling - perhaps a drop managed to dislodge the wire from it's circuit board connection, which subsequently got pushed up against the chassis on the inside, and ended up generating extra heat and melting.
