Ordered. Im stoked because I had been looking at the screwball, was on the fence and they're sold out. The ZX wasn't on my radar, but looking at it now it looks perfect for my usage.
I have a Freight Train, and it works well, but I think the one and done style with a small load sounds ideal.

I enjoy lurking in other threads to see what developments are happening, especially with portable tech.
They seem to have some big leaps in improvements!
One of them was adding a silver ring to add more heat retention to the device.

My thoughts are "What would a silver ring that fits over the coils do to the performance?"
Encase the heater in a thin, metal cover. It will have no impact to the air path either.
Silver, copper or brass or even aluminum?

I wonder if we would be able to drop the temps even more without affecting performance?

Then i filled in the space with 3mm SiC beads, added a screen and now it has a longer bead chamber!
I wanted to take up the excess space at the outlet.

I saw Ryan mention that he likes to run his with I think 6mm rubies so I thought I'd try 4mm balls and see how I liked it. Much more testing will be required of course but I noticed no reduction in performance at about the regular temps along with a decent boost in airflow.

I think I would prefer a material with stronger insulating proprieties. It would keep the heat on the inside and give a better thermal output to the head.
Zirconia maybe ? 😉

Yeah, I've thought about this a little and I agree with @Radwin Bodnic I think an insulating material could yield a little more efficiency. Aerogel would be awesome, but in it's simplest form you could just have a Boro sleeve. Especially if the coil is mounted so that the handle is at the bottom of the heater, could even cut a key into the bottom of the sleeve to catch onto the handle and make it a bit harder to fall off if you accidently inverted it.

Hmmmmm.... Now the cogs are turning! You could even do a double wall for extra safety and insulation, but that would have a detrimental effect on the weight of the head.

Had that with my diy-glas-ballvape. A coper shield (from a Cooper tube for a 20mm coil). IMHO no big benefits. At least everything in contact with the coil gets hot. Needs energy.

So does the air around the coil. But being a fluid, the hot air will move up by convection and be replaced by cold air that will be heated again, and again, and again.
The air is therefore constantly cooling the external face of the coil.
The idea of getting one layer around the coil would be to avoid this cooling issue. It's just insulating.
But a copper tube is one of the worst insulators. Copper conducts heat extremely well. What we want here is an insulator (boro, quartz, zirconia, etc...)

This is just pie in the sky and something to tinker with.
I absolutely love the size and weight of the head and adding extra mass to it is not what I am after.

Concept with thin aluminum strip bent around heater.

Even if there is no difference, it is something quick and easy to remove and return to normal life.
I used aerogel in an old Cloud and it made an amazing difference but was expensive!! There was also a lot of space to use it in.
Will report back later today!

Zirconia - cool. You have do deal with the material. To much boro cracked and destroyed by me, sometimes hot as fuck. That is beside the performance my biggest thumb up for the ZX - Indestructability! My intention from that time was "cover that oven". I dropped the idea.

I have a shelly plug involved. For being energy-waste-sensitive it switches off after 15 min. Timeline: Power on... PID stabilises after about 2min. Meanwhile prepare the bowl. INHALE. inhale. Done. 3-4 Min. MAX 5 Min. That is efficient!!! I am every single time amazed that this thing performs like it does after 2min.
IMHO the ZX performance is SO GOOD. It's hard to get the last 2%.

What point would anybody change on the actual ZX and ZX-Bowl combination? Just curious. ;)

For me: IT IS MY DAILY DRIVER!!! period.
But...I would like to have a ZX-Bowl with a tapering. Maybe 8mm ID. Microdosing. I enjoy my bowl reduced with that ss-inlet. But it falls out once in a while. no big deal. Then I use the bowl as it is... thinking "man is this a hit... way to much!"... then drop the tapering in... until it falls out while cleaning. Repeat. ;)

Oh and me calling it microdosing. It isn't bro. It is NOT! :smug: ... same FX with the baKx!

It's all in the name of having some fun with our devices.
See if we can edge out a tiny bit more performance at a lower temp. Possibly but as you say the ZX is so good as it is...

My desires are to have the heater closer to the load for faster and more efficient extraction. That was the entire purpose behind the bowl we were talking about a few pages ago. It brings the load right under the rim of the heater, there is zero wasted space between the lip of the vape and the flower.
I would love a heater that has just the smallest and shortest taper on it so it needs the be held on top of the bowl, while the flower sits level with the heater lip.

I want to eliminate the space between the internal screen and the end of the heater as well as the space from the Herb in the bowl to the heater.
I would be very happy with a 2mm air gap and then a screen that is about 5mm deep.

But again, as you say it's pretty damn perfect as it is!!!

Could you measure the length of the ZX head taper ? I might have an idea for you to try...

Both the 1.5 and 1.7 were like this, they fitted, but only enough to seal, not enough to let go with that hand! I used to use an 18mm bowl with an upside down, flat bottomed basket screen set to my preferred dosage. I was using much larger loads back then though.

I do prefer the zx and zbowl combination on the whole though

I wonder if it makes more sense to slide a smaller bowl inside the zx, kinda diffuser style...

As I did the wireless test with the heat gun I wrote Ryan about a cool effect. Maybe you have noticed it too... I call it "Crack-Pipe-Effect"(I think Ryan now thinks I am insane ;) ). Some times it sizzles like a crack pipe on the very first second of a draw. With the heat gun the lower part of the ZX was way hotter than 220°c. I guess above 250°c. I measured the blowout and stopped heating at 200°c. If you pull the air through the ZX the other way around the herb must be way hotter than 220° for a little fraction of time. Then will be "cooled" through the upper part rubies.
Check out the VIDEO link with the heatgun, crank up the volume. Can you hear it?

IMHO this is how the extraction would be perfect.

EDIT: But don't worry it was just a proof of concept. Nothing to deal with everyday. But ... maybe in some years we get that controlled 500°C burst for 1/10 of a second. or so. :smug:

I have always been a bit afraid to write down all my thoughts and experiences with regards to vaping!

With my smaller glass bowl that has the load closer to the heater, the first draw crackles and can sometimes pop, similar to the smoking days when a seed explodes in the joint.

I think the initial blast of already heated air that is inside the ZX is hotter than the setting as it sits and percolates.

It's always on the very first hit on a fresh bowl.
Makes me very happy!

Yeah. You are right. That means we have at the very start the desired temp. After some airflow it drops... the first solution that comes to mind is to increase the temperature. But that's not quite it.

I just pulled the trigger on a zx bundle and I cannot wait.

As someone that just got mine a little over a month ago, you’re in for an absolute treat. I’m in my honeymoon phase, for sure, but this thing has sidelined my previous vapes like nothing before, and those vapes include some nice kit (TinyMight2, Bowle, Lotus, Omnivap, Tubo Evic).
