Close up shot of the oven. This is cleaned after every few uses with 191 or iso using the brush and a cue tip. This is actually post-cleaning, so you can see some residue has started to pile up. I think there are some faint scratches too, probably from the little metal stir tool that is inside the cover. I tried to scrape some of the black off the edges but gave up.

Here’s a zoomed out shot to see how it looks in general:

Max temp burn offs and attempts to scrape the dark residue off with the stir tool/brush have been unsuccessful at returning it to perfect. That said, I was able to scrape a bit off in the center (as you can see).

Seems pretty impossible to get it back to like-new. Maybe I’ll try a few of my plastic scrape tools and see if I can get it cleaner later.
Have you ever combusted? Glad to see the gold doesn't seem to be coming off, but damn, it doesn't look like it is able to be kept clean. That might drive my OCD bonkers. I'm really starting to wonder if I need to focus on one of my other top picks for my next vape. 😢 But all of them, despite being in the top 3 or 4 of everyone's highest rated vapes all have some issues that make me not super excited about them.

It can look like new if you just wipe with a bit of alcohol now and then. My oven almost never looks that dirty but this vape I tend to lightly clean every 5 or so bowls.

Yes, same here. Holy shit, what a difference! I kind of wondered about the heavy hits people say they’re getting groom this thing. When I tried holding down that part of the lid while drawing, the vapor was definitely thicker, more flavorful and satisfying.

i hope I don’t have to put a damn rubber band around such an elegant machine…

The door on my vape is perfect. Clicks shut really well. No leak. Its a tight fit. Does not move. What I dislike is the mess...but, how do you not have a mess with this style of vape and why are those screens really there in the design. If I take them off does not it affect the function?

According to the person that posted the pics of the dirty looking oven, they use ISO on it. So at least in their case, it doesn't sound like alcohol does work.

The one universal thing that people agree on with this vape is that it's a bit messy. As I've said, more frequent light cleanings will take care of this(yes with iso). The gold coating is stubborn with the residue and sometimes I do have to apply pressure with paper towel dampened with iso to scrub it out.

Never combusted. Not even sure it’s possible to combust using it the way I do. This vape doesn’t even combust when I’m hammering 464f on demand back to back to back.

I use iso or 191 everclear depending on what’s handy. Usually I use 191. I dust it out and wipe it down. It does a pretty good job, but over enough time and use the little bits it doesn’t get add up. This is also a super zoomed in pic - from a regular distance it doesn’t look quite as bad :).

Just for giggles, I sat down and tried to make the oven look new. I put an ISO soaked cotton ball in there for awhile, then spent time carefully scraping with a plastic scraper tool and more iso.

I spent almost thirty minutes on it getting things back to mostly-shiny. I’ll take a pic tomorrow and post it up for comparison.

I’ve more or less accepted that it’s going to get a bit dirty over time and take occasional hard cleanings.

Thanks for letting me know.

You haven't seen any signs of the gold plating coming off of the bowl from getting scratched by the screen, have you?
The concentrate pad will not do the same job and will restrict airflow
Screen hasn't scratched bowl
Hey guys, I've had my ALP for about a week now and I just have a few questions on the fit and finish. Mainly, is the oven door supposed to be open slightly even when closed? My door doesn't close flush, the bottom half is tilted open a bit. It's open enough that the stir tool can slide freely through the open space. The pictures of everyone else's devices look like your ovens close all the way but its kinda hard to see. I just wanna make sure this isn't messing with my airflow since its an opening so close to the bowl.

How do we know if we got the corrected mouth piece? Mine isn't terrible but it does pop off in my pocket usually and it feels very loose when using the WPA but it's not terrible(just not necessarily great either) so I'm uncertain if I got the revised one or not.
The door is always a little higher at bowl end - this is the raised silicone like that seals and creates the isolated airpath
It is designed like this
This works, the airflow becomes a bit more restrictive but it works!

And yes the thing is that it becomes sticky and drags the whole bowl with it when you open it. Not sure if drilling holes is a good idea as I dont know what material is being used underneath the gold coating..

@Gary-Airvape we're still waiting for what's exposed and materials used in the airpath.
Don't drill holes in the disc
Unscrew it half way and it doesn't matter if the holes clog as the vapour goes around and under it
Empty when hot and no AVN sticking to anything

Same thing with mine. The door lid is slightly loose on the end closest to the bowl. @Gary-Airvape, should it be?

On the other hand, it makes it easier to open. The latch thingy broke my fingernails.
As above - the silicone that creates the isolated airpath raises the base a little

What have you done to this oven?
I use a mouth moistened qtip every bowl at home
I blow it out if outdoors
Iso qtips every now and then
My bowl is shiny like new

It isn't messy if you remove the small gold screen and put a mighty screen over the weed
Unscrew gold disc halfway

Empty when hot
Open door, turn upside down, tap on table, empty
No mess
Mouth moistened qtip the bowl

I just did session mode through a bong while holding the door shut and it was a completely different experience. Now I'm certain the difference isn't in my head. When I hold the door shut I can see the bong getting thick and milky but when I don't hold the door shut the vapor inside the bong is very thin and wispy.

So as I mentioned above
The door is removable apparently
If you fiddle and adjust it you can get it to seat properly

The base is raised as the silicone lip that isolates the airpath is doing its job
If you hold the door closed on mine and block the intake holes you can't inhale easily
This is is because it has sealed the airpath as it should be
If you block the intake holes and hold door down and a lot of air gets through you need to adjust the door

Ensure your door is fitted correctly and seats properly
Then it will seal the airpath correctly

The oven end is supposed to be a little raised as the silicone lip around the bowl does this
It isn't supposed to leak though and should perform/seal the same whether you squeeze it or not

Adjust you door and fix the seal

Hi,
The door issue, If you feel it is affecting the performance, just email cs@airvapeusa.com, and we will change it for you.

"

As felvapes says.

The oven dirt, it seems the rosin built up, use alcohol and clothes to clean regularly, there is no need to scrap.

It is recommended to run 1-2 empty sessions on max temp when you use it the first time.

For the airpath growing, I requested it from the factory, still waiting for it.

Dosing capsules will not be part of the BF deal, but as soon as it is with us I will let you know and you can order it. This group will be the first to know!

Music in the vape is not worth the extra money you would have to pay, sorry.

I hope I answered all your questions:)

that sounds like a pretty noticeable discrepancy in an otherwise tightly designed device.
probably caused by the large cover being held in place only in the middle section while there's tension on the bottom.
please consider improving this aspect in future versions/devices.
i think the easiest fix would be a metal cover (or at least frame) if it's made of plastic now and flexes.

It isnt the door flexing - the door is as solid as it gets - it's the two little silicone lips/walls that run around the bowl and seal the airpath
That is why it is raised - the walls/lips lift it
People shouldn't be squishing it down at all as this will squash those walls/lips that create the airpath and it almost closes the airpath
It works and seals as it is meant to
If anything having the miniscule lift may help with cooling

If it leaks when the intake holes are blocked, the issue is the door needs to be adjusted on the hinge so that it seats properly and seals around the bowl, isolating the airpath
If it's a machining issue they will fix you up though
There is certainly no flex in the door, it lifts like a mm at one end as described via design not flex

You’re gonna get the best battery performance over the life of the battery if you fully charge it before using. Mine arrived about 3/4 charged, so topping it up didn’t take long. Hope yours does too

i mean clearly it's a oversight if the retention mechanism is in the middle of the cover plate and tension on one side causes it to not sit flush.
and given the seal is roughly square shaped, the bottom edge will always seal lighter than the one towards the center.
apologies if i misunderstood but the notion of it helping with cooling by not fully sealing is laughable.

Here’s an after pic from a deeper cleaning. I wanted to see how close to “new” I could get the chamber.

The little dark flakes still visible on the side are some kind of concentrate buildup that doesn’t want to wash out with heat or 191 or iso. I had to scrape pretty vigorously to get most of it off. I used a softer plastic tool to avoid scraping the sides. There are some visible scratches inside especially near the bottom where the side wall bends inward, but I’m pretty sure they came from using the little brush (it has a steel inner core holding bristles) or from the metal pick that came with the device. No scratch seems to be deep and the gold plating looks intact. It’s all superficial.

4-E0-D5-B99-26-D2-4-E2-A-9-A06-33330-DA19299.jpg

To be clear, I wipe it out every other use or so with iso or 191, but I’m usually working in a dim space when I do it so I wasn’t being as fastidious as I could have been. I think most of the dark spots in the oven were from a time I used concentrate and forgot to wipe it down afterward (varnished against the sides). Gotta remember to alcohol it after concentrate use. The varnished sides would mostly come clean with an iso wipe but some bits are stubborn and over time… well… you saw what happens :). Running nothing but flower is significantly cleaner.

Anyway, I’m sure it’ll get nice and dirty again soon :). I should probably be cleaning after every use, but a little wax varnished in the oven doesn’t seem to hurt it. Love this thing.

I'm Reporting on the Alp's oven screen removal and adding 15mm mighty-type screen works so well i wonder why Airvape did not try it out. The only hassle is keeping a bag of slippery 15mm screens handy.
When i removed the little oven gold screen i could not believe how gunked-up it was and i thought my little screen underneath was so filthy and the hole in path was 50% clogged up with gunk. I have been cleaning without removing it. GUM brush were used too in the tough spots, but it does not do the job. Either remove the screen or clean it through removal process/cleaning.

Does anyone have experience using hash on the ALP? Not talking about concentrates or wax, just simple hash. Here in brazil it's very common and I love it in the dynavap and arizer EQ.

If you have experience with it please tell me some tips on how you do it!

@gabs021 i don't have the ALP yet (can't wait to get my hands on it) but if it's primarily convection i don't see it working that well for hash. being a solid compound (as opposed to fluffy herbs) conduction is just much more appropriate cooking method.
might be decent in a flower sandwich.

You again missed why it is raised
It isn't a machining issue - it is the lips/wall of the silicone airpath that raise the lid a little on one end
If you squeeze it shut to be flush - you are squashing the silicone and the airpath and actually almost squashing the airpath closed
I think you're mistaking the design since you don't have one in front of you and also mistaking what I meant wehn you read my post

I didn't say that they designed the lift for cooling the device body - I said if anything it probably helps to cool the body - there's a difference and it's far from laughable

I only use one mighty screen so far
I have spares but haven't had to replace it yet - the wide mesh doesn't get clogged
If you are worried about losing them you can stash one or two under the battery lid
I removed the gold screen completely - it isn't needed when using the screen over the weed - it sure does clog up though doesn't it
Much better airflow and cleaning maintenance without it

It is both a convection and a conduction vape
Depends which mode you use
Session mode is conduction also
Hash works well

@gabs021 if you roll the hash in some hemp fibre or cotton it vapes really well without staining or sticking to the bowl
Use session mode and higher temps for this

I use on demand mode usually and for flower though

no, i got why it's raised. yes it's raised because tension from the silicone on one end, so clearly the hinge or cover bends/tilts/flexes.
this happens only because the lid is fixed in the center and there's tension on one end. if it were fixed on the ends or the hinge/cover was more solid/lower tolerance this shouldn't happen.

maybe not a machining but a design oversight. all i'm saying is for this aspect to be considered and fixed in the next iteration. why are you defending a door ajar?

Again you are missing what I'm saying as you don't have one to comment
It does NOT flex - the lid is solid
If you squish by hand - or if you put latches on the sides that forces it to squish close - this will stop the unit functioning as the airpath becomes squished together and closed - then very little air get through

The hinge is designed as - a removable door- so I know two people who had to adjust their door to seat correctly and then it fit the airpath correctly

But you do not want to have it squished tight - because that one mm is your airpath and you close it doing so by squashing those walls/lips down
There needs to be a gap between the peek and silicone on the door so vapour can get from the oven to the hole where the gold screen is/was
The lips/walls that lift it are creating the airpath
