How about a program that would automatically take you through a progression of vaping a bowl at successively higher temperatures to experience the different effects? Your program could set the temp and blow you a bag at the low level that is just thc. Enjoy that for a while. Then the next bag would be higher with different compounds for different effects. You could have as many progressions as you want with more or less steps depending on how many compounds you wanted in each bag. The user could become a vape temp connoisseur (sp?) and eventually dial it up for just what he wanted (independent of strain differences, of course).

This is either a kick ass idea or I am just really vaked!
Ive been thinking about something like this for a while now. A vaporizer with programmable temperature ramping would be great. Then dispensaries could make program downloads for different strains they sell (maybe the more consistent in house genetics) that would maximize the efficiency of the strain for the desired side effects. It seems like with the bag function it wouldnt be to hard to do because ramping stages could be triggered by on/off cycles the fan goes through as bags are filled.

This would also be great for vapor lounges when they start popping up :brow:. A vaporizer network could be set up with attendants monitoring approximate bags left so they can stop by to refill at just the right time. And since im dreaming, a special vapor lounge model could be made with one of those airline attendant call buttons for extra assistance :D

then when some dick comes into your lounge you give him a bag of high temp sleepy time vapors!

An iPhone app might be good for this. The app could contain all the analysis and stuff so you could 'program' your bag output while on the road and then sync what you want to the Ion. This app would be killer for anyone, no matter what vape they had, because you would use it to plan your sessions no matter what vape you owned. But if it was an Ion app it could have ads in it that pimp the extra functionality this app brings to the Ion.

Hey Bruce,
How accurate is the Ion's temp reading? Is it giving me the temp of the bowl and herbs, or an approximation based on a reading somewhere else in the air path? This was a problem with the E when it first came out and they had three different versions for temp readings to get what they wanted. The problem with what we are talking about in an app like this (or research like this, for that matter) is that I don't know of any vape out there that can say exactly what the temp is at the herb. Or how about consistency between different Ion units and the actual temps achieved versus temp readings?

0.5F temperature accuracy is very good ... this may have been asked and answered already ... where is the temperature measured relative to the cup that holds the plant material? and do you use a custom designed heat controller, or an off-the-shelf commercial unit?
The heat is measured within .5" of the filling chamber. The rest of the information is proprietary...sorry
asked and answered ...

and, before the patent is filed, i was talking about temperature profiles in my thread on the Bud Toaster ... so it's prior art now.

When testing the temps we test @ the bowl. That is how the Ion was designed. There is a +/- range of .5 degrees(f) between the bowl and temp reading.

I am thinking set it up to come on when the dishwasher comes on, then I can mix my vapors with the steam commin from the dishwasher and nobody is the wiser. Kinda looks a bit like a kitchen device anyhow.

And maybe the dishwasher can talk to my refrigerator and move my dinner to the oven to start cooking it at the same time... so when I'm done with the Ion and get munchies the food is ready. LOL

I have heard there is a chef that has been using the ion to infuse essential oils into some of his dishes. I have not tried this....I have only heard about it, when I get some verifiable info I will post about it.

Bruce I would look hard into that. My sister is a chef and she says that does not make real sense as it would not infuse flavors into the food. She says they use vacuum seal thing with some aromatics in the bag to infuse the flavors.

She suspects vaporizer devices being used more like this is more like a incense than actually infusing flavors in the food. When you get more info on that we are interested in it as well.

sure enough,.. I will admit I was a bit vaked when the guy was telling me about it but there was a bag involved, not so certain about vacuum sealing or anything but I certainly will get back with the details once I find them out.

I know when used with aromatics that the Ion fills a average size room with aroma fairly quickly, depending of course, on the aromatics and moisture content

I will be interested to see what my sister says on it. The confusion was with the word infused which means basically for the flavors to be absorbed into the entree and they use a vacuum sealer but it is different than this in its intent I believe.

I would imagine a chef would need many bags as I do not believe they would be allowed to reuse the same bag from one meal preparation to the other so that could be an obstacle but I imagine their are inexpensive solutions in homemade bags to running a hose and just tying up an oven bag tight so maybe not that bit of a obstacle.

I would like to see a restaurant that does it to experience the dish before I had a real viewpoint but I see how it could it be neat chefs tool.

Bruce, or any Ion owners...how fine do you like to grind your herb for use in the Ion?

could anybody of you ION owners take a look at its bottom and tell me the watt consumption? :brow:

On the bottom of this one we are using as a demo in the room @ CHAMPS,... it says "Bruce's Ion"
"input AC 110-120V 50/60hzs"

Nothing about watt consumption

well, (knowing nothing about the Ion, but enjoying the conversations none the less), it takes 70 watts to go from room temperature to vape temperature in 30 seconds. You may be able to scale to a wattage number from that factoid.

someone at Zephyr knows the answer to this.
I am sure we have that info. I just can't access it from Vegas. I will have an accurate answer when I return.

I grind pretty fine but not powdery
Yeah, same here. Although, I've never grounded my herb to a powder before, for any reason.

This thing is great guys... If its bags you want, I see no reason why the Ion shouldn't be at or near the top of your list.

My Ion did not come with a whip, which was expected; any update on those Bruce?

Also, the whole "watt consumption" prompted me to look at the bottom of my Ion. I did not find any watt consumption, but I did find a hole with a the "foamy" washer in place - what is this exactly and should I be keeping an eye on it for any reason?

I have another request for a feature that the software can do:

If you so choose, turn off the LCD red backlight when the unit is off. I guess in some way it serves as a nice nightlight, but it is pretty darn bright, and the red light next to the power button is enough to tell me that it is getting power but not turned on.

Also, any word on the whip attachments?
