You sit it inside of the basket, and spread your oil on it. Don't worry about it dripping through it wont unless you put like a gram on it or something, and even then it probably wouldn't.

I spread a split pea sized dab (half a green pea)on it as it sits in the basket.
I place the dab in center, and spread it outwards, but I do not approach the edges.. I stay away from the edge by about 1.5 to 2 milimeters.
If you vape with Ion at high temp, there will be no residue when basket is done.

I like to take it to the top!
I get good concentrate vapor action at 410º and above.
at 440º it goes fast and cloudy... and finishes the "dab" up.

Just scraped my Zephyr for the first time in a couple months. Got a lot more than I expected.

My Grandma is on really strong pain meds that she doesn't like taking and I'm sure are terrible for her. Since I mostly run weed through the Zephyr at super high temperatures do you think if I took a small amount and put it in a gel cap for her to try it would be beneficial? Unfortunately I don't live in a medical state so just going out to a dispensary and getting whatever she needs really isn't an option.

I tried letting her use the Zephyr with some herb but the tiniest hit was too harsh for her and she couldn't inhale it and then coughed and got scared and didn't want want to try again.

I think it would be great.
Due to the amount it would help most vaped, but eaten would help also.....
On an empty stomach would be best.

After much research, testing and speaking with owners of both the Volcano & the Zephyr Ion, we have decided to go with the Zephyr Ion.
Both are extremely reliable, well built and produce any quality /density of vapor that you desire, since they are both temperature adjustable.

The Zephyr Ion came out on top due to the following :

    1. Simplicity of use. Sets up quickly and easily.
    2. Time to reach desired Temperature. 1 - 3 minutes.
    3. Superior heating method. Blowing heated air into a sealed chamber keeps the material mixing during the entire process.
    4. Superior efficiency. You can use smaller amounts of material, therefore saving money which will help to offset the cost of the vaporizer.
    5. Bang for your Buck. ($£¥€) The Zephyr Ion costs significantly less than the Volcano. Many of our patients are on Federal or State assistance and every penny, shilling, cent of income needs to be utilized in the most frugal way possible.

In summary, both products are good at what they do. The Zephyr Ion just does it better at a lower CPP, (Cost Per Puff) than the Volcano.

    Comments are welcome.

    Modnote: Moved from Volcano thread.

    I too use both....
Watch for the very obvious difference in cleanup later between the Zephyr, once it is dirty, and the Volcano (especially the EZ valve.)
Your summary is well thought out. Looking at your decision this might have been a post more helpful in the Zephyr thread.
You will see in the Zephyr thread, I love the Ion... and did a video etc.. and spoke VERY highly of the fact that it gets to temperature faster than the Volcano, and the bag blows up faster too...
So I used it more for a few days than the volcano, until I found the weak link, which was the non-removeable top which collects a good deal of resin.
Cleaning is not an impossible task, BUT.... the need to clean Zephyr comes after only a dozen sessions, as opposes to the Volcano EZ Valve which for me functioned daily for 3 years before I ventured to clean it, and found a great deal of buildup. The buildup was no problem, and obviously did not hamper function since it was out of sight and out of mind.
The cleanup of the EZ valve is at http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/volcano.220/page-46#post-571059
with the Zephyr, in spite of enjoying it's speed and function more, after a dozen sessions the top screen was able to get gummed up with resin , due to very limited and shallow clearance between the top screen and the cone/nozzle that rises from the Unit.
Please do not construe this as a deal breaker.
I am just making you aware of one thing you may have overlooked.

That top screen pops out for cleaning. You push on it from the top and it pops out the bottom.

    Yes true, sticks....
a couple of hints I share
Prior to popping out screen, remove the silicone retention ring.
Open the lid to full open position, so that Ion top post is upside down, like a funnel.
Using Iso dipped q-tips, begin work cleaning that plastic-like funnel from the inside.
You can place a vessel under the now open top to catch drips if you are a sloppy cleaner.

    another HINT:
try top replace the screen so that it is not concave toward the top of unit... but rather convex.
This allows space between the top funnel and the screen so that you can go farther in between cleanings.

I just bought the Zephry Ion.

I have not even used it yet.. well I tried to use it today.

I plugged it in, put the little disc in with a herb mix that I bought.

I turned it on.. the light was red, then it went green, but it was still blinkking.. I thought, okay that's weird that it does that. i thought maybe it was still heating to that temperature

i turned on the air thing, and the bag got smoky..

I looked inside and noticed the herb mix was all black and burned.. I turned it off and unplugged it (I was worried it would catch fire)

I let it cool down, i thought i would try and see if maybe i did something wrong. I plugged it in, turned it on, (this time i didn't put any herb mix in, just because i didn't it to burn)

this time, it would not even heat up.. I googled it and people said they had problems iwth the heating thing.

I called the store, they said they can't do anything right now because their manager wasn't there... I was like well what will happen? They told me to contact zephyr..

the manager at the store called me back, he told me to contact them, and he would too..

The zephyr website says warranties are only if i bought it from an "Authorized dealers" but how do I know if the store is authorized or not? and if they are not authorized, why is that my problem?

I just want this thing fixed.. or get one that isn't defective - I didn't even get to try it once.. I am really upset.. like i am very worried I just bought a really expensive paperweight

    does this happen often?

    What should I do?

    please help :-)

What temperature setting were you using? I've only ever used the little bucket and never a disk. Have you tried that yet with ground herb?

oh, i mean the little bucket.. sorry i didn't remember what it was called lol..

    yeah i grinded it up.

i really want this thing fixed.

i also use cannabis medicinally and well this is what i got it for (that and legal healing herbs)

I put it at 355, I have the vapir 902, and that's what I use that at.. I don't like it too smoky

but either way.. the machine is obviously defective.. i hope i am not stuck with a broken thing?

You could attempt to go lower...set the thermostat for 325 and try.
Be sure there are no restrictions... that the air can flow through the bowl easily.

    yeah i tried all that..

found a source said to bring to lowest temperature and then change it to celsius..
    which did not fix it..

I think this thing is kaput

    It was the green box.

the store I think is trying to make it my problem.. but warranty should be for ware and tear not getting a product that has not even worked once

plus the receipt (like all headshops here) don't say much on the receeipt.. and zaphyr website says warranty is only good if i get it from an authorized retailer..

the owner of the store called me and said he could order another one and exchange it if all else fails. but i will believe that when he does it..

are the zaphyr people good with their warranties?

If I were you I would work both channels. Your store should exchange it. But zephyr has always been good to me. You will get it right. Dont worry

    oh okay. that's good

this vaporizer seems really amazing so I am excited to try it. I have a medical marijauna card, i use it for medicinal purposes. This will be a lot better for my lungs.. hopefully it won't take me too long to get sorted out. I am guessing I won't hear from zaphyr over the weekend.. I did message them on facebook.

I would definitely put the burden on the store first. That's why you go to a store...the service.

Zephyr folks seemed nice to me.
I contacted them with questions about their software, and they responded in what seemed a very fast and professional fashion.
My impression was that they cared a great deal what the user thinks.
They will I am sure cover you....
BUT SHAME on that store for having a selectively cooperative, yet somewhat evasive tactic!
It sounds like they just do not want to hassle with it...
Do they not realize that you can easily share their name with an entire forum?
The forum may not be their concern, but the trickle effect and word of mouth will harm their business to the tune of a couple of customers a month.
To a smart owner, a couple simple customers a month grows to a couple more each month as friends of friends hear the reason why.
Good luck on this... we will be watching for your progress here.

a brick and mortar retailer should cherish a customer who actually buys an Expensive vaporizer on site.
