Volcano Hybrid

Yippie!!!

Sent email yesterday that my faulty Hybrid was on the way to repair facility

Received email today from S&B Oakland. Actually an apology, typed by a human. Very nice note, and a tracking number for a replacement Hybrid!

Don't think they could do any better. Outstanding. And, I only returned the unit, so I might even get additional bags for free as well

Time to celebrate! Open the Casa Noble tequila, Corona chaser! Support Constellation Brands so they don't meddle with S&B's superb customer support. (Canopy bought S&B, and Constellation is a major investor in Canopy. They ousted Canopy founders last week because quarterly reported earnings losses during infrastructure investment rampups do not compute for bean counters at traditional corporations)

Glad to hear it’s all working out. When I had an issue with my Mighty they took care of me as well. I’m excited to hear how the new unit works.

My Classic with the new Hybrid Whip. I don't know why it says that it only works with the Hybrid.

Woodworker delivered this walnut table this morning, then my replacement Hybrid arrived. Christmas in July

Lending it to him and his wife to try for a few weeks. It might convert her to vaping. Asked him to make me a walnut Volcano hutch. Until then, this picnic basket will suffice

If you grab or pass the whip around with the hybrid chamber connected to the classic model it will not lock the herb chamber in place, you will have to hold the herb chamber on unless u want an eruption

And by the looks of the picture its not sitting right on your volcano

Correct. It fits, but it's not secured like the new Hybrid.

This thing is FUN !

Wake 'n bake recipe:

fill chamber :)
bag, hose, bag

Startling when the air pumps activates for a second after set temp is reached. Increase temp, start sucking hose, then it gives you that temp reached buzz 'n blow, like an old school exhale shotgun from a girlfriend's j exhale. And they say aromas arouse memories

This shows Hybrid's docking design. At left is the herb chamber's underside. Similar three point screw downs around perimeter. Added conduction from those stainless steel rings mating, heats the steel herb chamber walls. AVB comes out very dark and even, no stirring

Hybrid-docking-design.jpg

Anyone who's read my repetitive posts in Plenty thread know about my orange tab warning. Well, it also applies to the Hybrid chamber. Do NOT push down on the steel herb chamber. This includes vigorous q-tip cleaning. You will break one of three tiny orange plastic retaining tabs. Because they offer the chamber reducer, I know folks will fiddle around like I did with Plenty. I first tried removing steel chamber by pushing down, without reading the instructions. Bad. Snap goes a tab. Now when you invert to dump AVB the searingly hot steel will fall out, and do NOT try to catch it. Been there, burned that

Received chamber reducer, but gave Hybrid away for a while. When it returns, I'll try nippling the upper screen, like with Plenty. Do a compare/contrast with non-nipple screen using reducer, with and without capsules as well. Also need to try concentrates

@LesPlenty - Clever! - you folks down under need to be resourceful, eh? with added shipping and customs, ordering parts for most products is expensive. I know you are half kidding about the planned obsolescence, however, S&B does not overcharge for their parts, in my opinion and experience. Sure, the products themselves have a price sticker shock, but parts, not so much

Speaking of parts, noticed S&B silicone tubing has thicker walls than the tubing I linked to in prior post. So, ordered 1/4inch inner and 1/2inch outer, which has the thicker 1/8 inch walls. Also some hookah hoses, just for fun. Asked Will for a wood tube reinforcer to mate Hybrid's post with hookah two way splitter, as my silicone kludge was too flimsy. Told me yesterday he's thinking of building a small volcano hutch with a rolling wood slat cover

I'm slow. Just now understood the double meaning of Hybrid. It's a hybrid of two inhale methods, bag and hose. And the heating is a hybrid of convection and conduction. (Markus Storz owns a patent on hybrid heating for vaporization)

So, pardon the stupid question...but where does the herb go? In the smaller center section with tan ring around it or???

The orange piece pictured in that photo holds the chamber; it's upside-down in the photo. There's a black piece with a screen which screws onto that to sandwich the herb between the two screens.

Here's mine with the chamber reducer installed:

Sorry about the confusion with pic, @Baron23 , I was focused on the docking design. That gray material is interesting, also on post. Feels like a cross between PEEK plastic and ceramic, seems very tough. Thanks, @SixStringToker , and nice mouthpiece!

About a minute warm up time is great; have neglected Plenty partly because of 4 minute warmup.

IMO, hybrid heating is just better. (Baron, can I get an amen?)

No special breathing or button technique, no stirring, no charring or tunneling hot spots, no special grind

Effective, efficient, consistent. I know that convection has had some almost mystical marketing allure, but the proof's in the pudding. Or the volcano poo, rather. Bet if that old vape lab study was done using Hybrid, the residual THC found in AVB would be dramatically lower, dropping from Classic's 10% down to Plenty's 2%

I believe this is absolutely true. Hybrid gets rid of the finickiness of pure convection...particularly full convection portables where so much is often draw rate and technique dependent

Just some more constructive feedback...

So, I have been using this appliance for a 'while' now, and one of the things I've noticed from empirical experience, is that;
When I am using the Whip, I just ain't even thinking about the bag. Indeed, I'd been using it for about a week before getting round to using the bag! Now that I am on the bag, I'm like to myself, what freaking whip? I'm just loving the bag.. I also like that the heat up time is swift, real swift, and the bag fills up very quickly,

My point being, this appliance is so good, yep, that good, it doesn't matter whether it's the whip or the bag, the quality is outstanding!! The only limiting factor would be the herb.

Btw, the reducer is really effective in reining in the herb guzzling tendency of the Hybrid, although the pad that comes with it also does a decent job when used within the normal size chamber. Imho, the main difference between using the reducer and (just using the pad in) the normal herb chamber, is that, a small amount of herb in the reducer will last longer than the same amount sprinkled into the normal chamber (even) with the pad placed on top, and as I've stated previously, if you use the the small pad (which comes with the Crafty/Mighty) with the reducer in the Hybrid (or The Plenty,) you can get a really nice micro-dose session.

Incidentally for me, it's only S & B vapes that are doing it right now, I've found that after purchasing this appliance, it has reawakened my interest in all their products, so I now have the Volcano Hybrid on the go for Couch-time and general 'lounge' usage, I use the Mighty for pottering around the house, garden and for bed-time, and the Crafty is used mostly for walks and baths. yep! I even raised up 'old Lazarus' (Crafty) because of the New App that came with Hybrid.

I'm afraid the only one from the squad that is currently benched, is the Plenty, and to be honest, it's kinda looking real bleak for old P there (and also Vapexhale Cloud Evo), who're definitely on the way up to the loft within the next day or so, although, I might just give 'old P' one more blast for the road.. Your duty has ended...

Other than that, I'm preparing for a extremely quick visit to Amsterdam in the next day or so,for a couple of nights, I am specifically looking out for Authentic Chemdawg, (any suggestions re which coffee-shop to get authentic chem-dawg would be very welcomed) and I'm also looking for Gelato 33, (Larry Bird), methinks! ;)

not saying:2c: just saying:peace: without saying:\

Pure Peace:leaf:

You still use the stock herbalizer whip? That whip is a piece of..... Check out planetvape and order their 7MM Med-X silicone tubing, it's amazing and the perfect size.

How do you think it will work with a hydratube?

The Black Filing Chamber Cap looks as though it will take a 14mm to 18mm GonG adapter the same as a Plenty so I would say 'It should work a treat' until someone says/proves otherwise.

We're pleased to report that ALL of our hydratubes/bubblers are compatible with the Volcano Hybrid as well :)
