@Vitolo : try another USB cable, maybe the one you have has no data lines and is just a charging one?

    @Vitolo you are not alone.

I downloaded the update and tried several USB cables and several ports on the front of the computer (USB 2) Nothing worked.

I have a feeling that it wants a USB 3 cable and I only have those in the back of my computer and I have to replace a disk drive in it and I figure I would only unplug all my devices one time.

I also had an issue getting my Alternate to be recognized, my problem was the USB cable like @KeroZen suggests. The one I was using only had pins for power transfer, no data. Used a different cable I had lying around and the update worked just fine.

I have some good info now.
My Vivant arrived with the USB cable missing, so rather than make a fuss, I have been using one that came with a wax pen.
My friend with a Vivant will be gone for 2 weeks, but I will try writing to @Vivant for a cable.

Maybe try a USB cable that goes to another peripheral, like for a printer, etc?

@OyVape ....Good recommendation, but I went through the house, and all computers use a large square cable.
I also went to Vivant online and they sell no parts.
    Note:
I did write a message to @Vivant and maybe she can be of help.

I had the same issue when updating my unit. Make sure the unit is powered on and I think I also had to "wake" the unit (standby screen on) before it would recognize it in the app.

Will try and see if Emily gets back to me.
I have tried waking and turning unit on etc....
    I will keep trying.

I also worked for many years as a customer facing program manager for some very high tech capital equipment and my portfolio also including CS for my assigned strategic customers.

"Sorry" was never a sufficient response. Why? Because my customers rightly didn't give a shit about my internal emotional state. What they wanted was answers as to how it happened, get it fixed, and provide a plan to ensure it doesn't happen again.

So, I'm with you....I hear "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry" and sometimes I just can't help telling the CS person I don't care about their emotions, what are you going to DO?

P.S. - Personally, I think Emily is doing a yeoman's job of handling a very fraught CS issue. Its not Emily's fault, she's doing great!!

Hello @gienkollo Thank you for the advice, I will make sure it is forwarded to our engineers and designers. Thank you again.

Hey @Stinky as of this moment we are still short handed and YouTube Videos are on the list but we haven't gotten to it yet. We by no means cancelled this project and it will happen again but as of now, we are just limited in our resources. Please don't get discouraged though, with time we will be in full effect. Thank you

Hey @Vitolo, sorry for my delay in response, please bear with me as I am a bit short handed right now along with getting hit with a very bad cold for the last almost 2 weeks. I responded to your message but I had responded before reading the thread. Please look for my second response in the PM. However, what the members on here are saying is right. If the cable is just power only and not capable of data transfer, then it won't work. Thank you

Hey @Baron23 Thank you for your understanding and kind words for me personally. I would like to relate that I am only notified to an extent of current happenings and I do follow up with the situation daily but as of this moment, the company does not have a detailed response to the issues coming forth. However, when the company is confident in issuing an update as to why it happened, how it happened, how we are going to fix it and how we will avoid issues like this from happening again, you all will definitely hear it from me and rest assure I will put my update on this thread first. At this time, my hands are tied and I can only ask for your patience as I can relate to how frustrating the situation may be. However, I am here and willing to help as best as I can at any time. Thank you!! -Emily

    @Vitolo :

If you know anyone with an Android phone they likely have a usb cable that would work (most Android devices use Micro-usb, as does the Alternate).

Yes, and most ecig devices as well. I have a slew of them lying around. Although every now and then, one particular cable won't work on a given device but will on another. Never have quite figured that out. Most often they are interchangeable, though.

And you are doing exactly right. The answer has to be the correct one the first time or credibility is shot. So, response must be developed and proved out prior to sharing it out with customers. I'm sure we would all urge alacrity on Vivant's part on this task, but I'm sure you guys are already highly motivated to get this corrected and cut down on customer complains.

But keep the pressure on, Emily. Its really not acceptable as is.

    Cheers

Thanks for being in touch, and for making so simple a resolution for my issue at hand.
Thumbs up for working with @Vivant to achieve end results amenable to all involved.

I agree that a lack of a detailed response after WEEKS is unacceptable. The engineers etc. working on the issue should at least have come up with a reason WHY by now.

Is it safe for people to be using these units? We still haven't got an answer.

Hey Vitolo, if you still cannot find a cable, and Vivant doesn't end up sending you one, send me a PM and l will send you a cable, I've got a metric buttload of them around the house.

Had my alternate for about a week. Lost the plastic smell after two bowls, great vapor quality. We will see how she holds up.

I was thinking about this the other day..Vivant seems to be a newer company in the herbal vaporizer realm so my guess is they are trying to be as careful as possible. A little off course but this issue reminds me of the note 7 fiasco a few months back..Samsung introduced a new verison of the device with an updated battery and still experienced issues to the point where they recalled all units and to those who ignored the recall they pushed an OTA software update to stop the phone from recognizing chargers making it a brick. I can't advise how they should run their business..still would like to see them come out on top..still interested to see how this is all resolved.

Just got my Alternate and so far I'm a little disappointed. I'll admit, I have only run 2 session through it but I found by self spending more time blowing through the air intake because of the intense and foul plastic flavor coming out of the unit. I did a burn off at 390 for 4 mins before loading any herb, loaded it, and started at 350. Ended up just puffing with my mouth as I didn't really want to inhale the nasty flavor.

By the end of the second session the flavor was less harsh but even my partner (who rarely vapes almost never comments on smell) questioned what that weird aroma was. My hopes are that after a few more bowls it goes away because there is so much I want to love about this vape. The controlles are easy to learn and it's so versatile. I LOVE the little countdown in session time and the fact that temp stepping should be much more controlled with the shorter sessions. I always found myself turning my Air off half way through so 4-5 mins is perfect for me.

Against my better judgement I'm going to keep loading this thing in hopes of burning off the smell. Probably wait until tomorrow though so I'll post a follow up in a few days.

For those who have had this for a while, how long did it take for the plastic flavor to go away on yours?

I had the same thoughts as you at the beginning. But believe me it will get better. This vape is definitely growing on me. I was tempted to send it back to puffitup for the solo 2 but now i am rethinking that.

Mine never had a plastic smell.
A friend got one that I detected a plasticine essence on, but it went away in about 2 days (half dozen sessions)

No plastic smell on mine. So far it's not clear why some vivants have this and some don't.
