Hey Pappy, I think you are right and eventhough vaping is IMO healthier then combustion, you still inhale saturated hot air with A LOT of particulates.
I really think this below tip (post #1450) lowers a lot the particulate level and therefore the brown color of your phlegm:

It can of course be done on any whip based vape, even on almost any vape with a mouthpiece!
