Maybe this belongs in the medical section. I'm putting it here because I think it's an example of an incredibly poor study. I can only think that the purpose of it is to discourage legalization.
    Or maybe I'm just paranoid.

There is no data at all as to how much the people in the study used daily. And how many who said they had never used marijuana lied.
I actually have high blood pressure so I monitor what happens when I smoke. Nothing.

Another reason to vaporize. Those studies were done with people who were smoking their flowers. I use cannabis most days but not always and my BP is usually slightly a little lower than normal.

It looks like these folks in the study were given a questionnaire, thats how the European Journal came up with their conclusion.

In our local paper there is a little article today saying the following.

Marijuana use increases the risk of dying from high blood pressure by more than three times, new research reveals.

This risk increases by more than one time for every year of cannabis use, a study found.

Results suggest marijuana use is more dangerous for heart health than cigarettes, despite certain campaigners insisting cannabis is safer than tobacco.

Experts argue the findings are particularly important given marijuana's legalization in eight US states, including Alaska, California and Colorado.

I am wondering if vaporizering has the same risks. Or is it the smoke?

Do you happen to have a link to the source?
I don't see how that could be true.

    "Background
Reports associate marijuana use with cardiovascular emergencies. Studies relating marijuana use to cardiovascular mortality are scarce. Recent advance towards marijuana use legalization emphasizes the importance of understanding relationships between marijuana use and cardiovascular deaths; the primary ranked mortality. Recreational marijuana is primarily smoked; we hypothesize that like cigarette smoking, marijuana use will be associated with increased cardiovascular mortalities"

Interesting. I was under the impression that smoking (tobacco) was bad for the heart because of the nicotine but having a quick look it does seem that it is the smoking rather than the nicotine that causes the problem.
I suppose it could be the same with cannabis. Maybe combustion releases so many other toxins that there is something else that is bad for the heart?

I see this thread here on the same subject, mayeb they should be merged?

Doesn't Cannabis increase heart rate especially on casual users AND lower blood pressure? Especially intraocular blood pressure?

Doctors are saying the exact opposite and they are using real world every day life experience... as in- patients who need to know that cannabis use LOWERS blood pressure so as not to interfere with doctors prescribed medications... doctors cannot rely on this quack prohibition information because they have patients' lives in their hands everyday...

basically, the doctor knows it lowers blood pressure which is a great thing! it's why people are relaxed from use DUH

    blood pressure with cannabis:
some studies/reports have indicated a slight rise in blood pressure (BP) INITIALLY, like the first hour. Then it normally will lower the blood pressure. However, many don't say how it was ingested so I seriously doubt it was vaped and likely was smoked.
Won't the first hour BP rise be more directly caused by the heavy load of toxins in the smoke, triggering the body reactions for being attacked by massive quantities of toxic chemicals/ emergency emergency, kick it into hyper drive response??

Probably time for some BP experiments here for vaping????

And the slight increase in BP was only for the systolic blood pressure (SBP)-- the high number. The diastolic pressure (DBP)
    was not changed.

Alarmists are trying to stretch the risk level. One analysis deemed it was comparable to the rise in BP at the beginning of exercise.

It p4obably regulates blood pressure..because isn't high or low blood pressure associated with discomfort?

Not really. You can have very high blood pressure and have no idea. That's why it's called "silent killer". Low blood pressure symptoms are sometimes easily to be aware of.

I think that what you're talking about is the other way around. Stress can cause brief high blood pressure and anger is one way that some of us deal with stress. So I guess you could say that anger causes high blood pressure for some people but it's not a sign of high blood pressure.
I don't know about chronic high blood pressure though. Probably if someone was living with high stress constantly whether it came out as anxiety or anger it might cause hypertension but I'm not sure. I know that hypertension can be caused by other health issues like kidney disease. And someone with one of those other conditions that cause high blood pressure wouldn't necessarily be angry or confused. (Unless they were super stressed and angry about their other health condition.)
I think that what I'm trying to say is that I think the majority of people with high blood pressure don't show a lot of anger but only some people with high blood pressure do.

If it's not a symptom it's an agregate so it could cause mutant strains of HBP in others who arent angry.....or confused:suspicious:

Well there again- cannabis relaxes- simple point of fact.... that relaxation then leads to lower blood pressure...

This is one study. And correlation does not mean causation.

It goes against other studies that showed the worst long term health problem encountered by regular cannabis consumers was gingivitis.

But that wouldn't add up to your correlation of cannabinoids to the human bodys programed receptors. If such is the case then marjuanas relaxant abilities when properly Vaped could have unique qualities making your senses counter contrary blood pressure symptoms. Someone told me of a strain of cannabis called Durban Poison; "This pure sativa originates from the South African port city of Durban. It has gained notoriety worldwide for its sweet smell and energetic, uplifting effects. Durban Poison is the perfect strain to help you stay productive ..." I know that doesn't validate my reasoning but IMO lowered blood pressure feels like xanax, not a head high.. I've gotten sleepy before but not drowsy. Idk if I could call it lightheaded even, maybe from tobacco but not weed

Have you had low or high blood pressure? While most people don't feel high or low blood pressure if they do these are the symptoms of low blood pressure:
The symptoms of low blood pressure include lightheadedness, dizziness, and fainting.
Nothing like xanax. Sativas are more stimulating and indicas tend to be more relaxing or at least sleep inducing but I don't understand what any of that has to do with blood pressure or what your reasoning is. Relaxation is not the same as low blood pressure.

I do have high blood pressure and if I breathe and relax it will lower. But that has nothing to do with the effect of relaxation on blood pressure for people who don't have bp problems.

Xanax makes my body feel heavy..Isn that lightheadedness? I figured low blood pressure effects strength and so also motor skills...but when did I say relaxation was the same as blood pressure. Thats the whole reason I brought up Xanax which is more of a tranquilizer than a relaxant.

Someone else can weigh in on this but: I tend to use indicas since I vape just before bed and they make my body feel heavy. When I am lightheaded I generally need to hold on to something because I am afraid that I'm going to pass out or fall over.
Also I'm not sure there's much difference between the label tranquilizer and relaxant. Benzos would be considered relaxants or anti-anxiety.

Also double post because I don't know how to ask to have the 2 threads that are based on the same research together and moved to medical. There's this one and the one in the news and activism thread.

mod note: posts and threads merged
