Using marijuana ONLY in edible form?

Forgive me if this comes off as a stupid question, but is this unheard of or extremely uncommon?I feel like its my last resort as for the past year I have suffered from lame ear problems (lots of clear fluid buildup, i'm told its allergies by my physician but who knows, no meds have helped me and I've tried tons) and anytime I inhale cannabis (Smoke or vapor it does not matter, I have a high quality vaporizer/silver surfer setup with a percd bong) it exacerbates it usually 45 min or so after and its really annoying/irritating. I quit smoking 6 months or so ago to try and help the problem but still, even with daily vaporization it irritates and causes a more liquidy feeling which is no good. I really love (i'd say even psychologically addicted) to the act of inhaling something (ESPECIALLY vaporizing) but I feel I can no longer kid myself into thinking I can do it and I will be fine. I do it everyday and its always the same result.


I really want to be able to buy an ounce and make a big batch of killer edibles, and allow me to medicate 2-3 times, or even more, a week. but I feel like this is an iffy idea because I have heard edibles make your tolerance super high. But even still, I'd love to be able to cut back to only once or a couple times a week instead of daily as I feel it will reduce my tolerance compared to the daily usage i'm now doing. I'm also a little scared seeing as how i'm going to be on the first floor of a NY style apartment (think: hotel) next year and the smell may be an issue...although I can put a crockpot by my door/balcony if need be and put my Silver Surfer vape back to use with its scented oil diffuser to cover any smells.

Why not make a tincture instead? That way you can dose in mL's accurately for the given batch.

I would look into a vegetable glycerin tincture. You could use a high alcohol content tincture but then you also get the effects of the alcohol. Vegetable Glycerin tincture does not have any effects of the alcohol. I use it sublingually, a few drops under your tongue should to it. I find the effects come on quicker then eating your medicine. You can also moderate the dose easier. If you search for "vegetable glycerin mmj" you can find some good tutorials on how to make it. I also imagine there are some good threads on this forum.

I have been looking into Lemon Extract greendragon for a bit now, as I'd rather use that than 151 alcohol or something similar. I do not like the idea of getting alcohol effects mixed but the amount of extract required doesnt strike me as being enough to give me alcohol effects. I previously tried to make Vegetable glycerin tinctures and it didnt do anything other than give me a mild feeling of well-being. I have read a bunch of reports also saying that glycerin tinctures dont actually get you "high", but then I've also seen the opposite claims; so i'm a bit iffy with the idea. Still, I'm most certain it was probably user error on my part.

The ones I use can get me to where I need to be. I have a pretty high tolerance as well. I go through about 1-2 grams of plant material per day. When I have to travel and I can't bring anything else with me... I will bring the glycerin tincture. It helps me relive my back pain, and I feel medicated. I used allot of it though. I can go through a 1 ounce of it in about 36 hours. It just depends on what you are looking for. I am looking for pain relief and relief from my OCD symptoms.

Thats great to hear. I figured the naysayers about glycerin tinctures were just people that did not have success, but your situation sounds similar to me; I love edibles for the fact they relieve my ear pain/pressure as opposed to what vaping/smoking does. In regards to weed in general, I would be lying to say I don't use to get high, but ever since I started using marijuana I have noticed an immense decrease in my OCD symptoms (They were very severe and debilitating at one point in my life). I would hate to see what happens if I ceased completely, even with the irritation inhaling causes me.

But I just came across a coconut oil cannacapsul recipe that appears to have given many immensely potent results, even for those with high tolerances. I'm hoping this isnt just me getting my hopes up but I believe if I can get this to work for me I will have found my go-to solution for medicating!

I would do a liposomal encapsulation using coconut oil and lecithin. Makes your meds go 2x as far and makes a nice even dose that works great for pain.

I have heard of lecithin and its benefits, but I'm a little confused by your wording (sorry, I'm not too advanced in this yet). What is liposomal encapsulation? Is that just using capsuls with coconut oil and lechitin added into it too? I replied as soon as you did stating my intent to give the coconut oil capsule recipe I found a go, but it didnt mention any lechitin or how to add it to the recipe (although I would be more than willing to use it, as I know with other edibles it gives excellent results).

I think he means to say you use coconut oil as a solvent for the greens, and fill gel caps with that.

My latest lab notes on my version of BadKittySmile's recipe:


Hash caps: The following recipe should yield about 60 hash caps.

Materials:

12 grams bubble hash
¼ cup coconut oil (4 tablespoons or 12 teaspoons)
5 teaspoons lecithin (1 table spoon + 2 teaspoons)
00 Gelatin capsules
Mortar & pestle
Glass eyedropper
Ice
Pill bottle
Paper towels

Procedure:

1. Decarb 12 grams hash in mortar at 210F for 20 minutes
2. Add 1 tablespoon lecithin and grind/stir
3. Add ¼ cup melted coconut oil and grind/stir
4. Preheat oven to 250F
5. Place double foil sealed mortar, on cookie sheet, then into oven
6. Adjust temp down to 220F, set timer for 40 minutes
7. When time expires shut off oven and wait 10 minutes
8. Vent some heat and wait 5 minutes, repeat
9. Remove mortar from oven and let sit for 30 minutes
10. Unwrap mortar and add one teaspoon lecithin and stir/grind
11. Re-wrap mortar and place in freezer for at least 8 hours
12. Remove mortar from freezer and allow to warm to room temp
13. Place sealed mortar into cold oven then set preheat to 220F
14. Set timer for 40 minutes
15. When time expires vent and cool as before
16. Remove mortar from oven and let sit for 30 minutes
17. Go back to step 12 if desired or proceed to next step
18. Stir/grind until you are happy with consistency
19. Fill caps with eyedropper utilizing paper towels and ice

Batch log:

1. 2 grams hash
2. 4 ½ teaspoons lecithin
3. ¼ cup coconut oil

Yield = 72 caps + 1 test cap = 73

Dose = 12 grams/73caps = 0.164/cap

Notes: A little sludgy upon reheat after freeze but stirred and capped well. Upped lecithin a little. Test dose was a potent, functional, baseline.

Edit: Judging the quality of the emulsion is key as you go from heat processing to freezer and back to room temp. Elbow grease pays off.

(http://boards.cannabis.com/concentrates/140616-cannabis-capsules-step-step-guide.html) plus decarbing (since it doesnt seem to call for that) as this recipe seems rather foolproof/easy enough and calls for 1.5 grams of flower (i can spare trying it with an eighth to hopefully get very potent results). Since you add the lechitin before applying the heat to the mixture, I'm assuming following the recipe I'm looking at I'd just add it with the weed/oil mix before letting the crockpot work its magic.

As someone with moderate to severe OCD I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I feel like I can annoy poeple because I have this need to clarify things to an extrema degree.

I have tried the Coconut Oil Capsules as well. The reason I did not suggest it is because I did not get as much relief from my OCD symptoms. I did get pain relief from the pills though. I was taking the strongest ones possible that the dispensary made. Also tried a couple of different dispensary's versions. The main reason I don't use the coconut capsules is because they make me tired.

Also the reason I tend not to eat my medicine is because it does not seem to affect me as much as vaporizing or using a sublinqual tincture of some kind. Mother milk is also a good option. You can steep milk in your ground product in a crock pot overnight. Then strain the results. I mix that with chocolate milk or yohoo. It works pretty well and feels more efficient then baking.

Wow I never heard someone say that, I have the same problem where I have to clarify every situation or topic. I always thought I just used weed becasue I liked it but now I noticed it totalled helped me fix that problem, now i can keep it to myself.

When I make medibles, I usually use an oz of (killer) ABV (not) killer fresh as you were mentioning. I grind all of this, add a stick and an eighth of butter (and water) in the crock pot for 24 hours.
(This stinky butter goes into 1 batch of brownies that calls for 2 cups <aka what you just made> of butter/oil)

Half of one usually gets me and most of my 'regular stoner' buddies very nicely zooted for a good number of hours. If you used an oz of (properly decarbed) killer fresh, Im sure half would make an experienced stoner pleased to borderline uncomfortable.

That is a perfectly suitable alternative as well. As is oil. As is Ghee. As is lard.

I just like the butter method cause its easy and causes little mess.

(of course, everyone's tolerance is much higher than it was back then...)

I was on an edible only diet for a few weeks after I had a lung collapse, and it got old quick. I picked up a bunch of diff stuff from a dispensary, and even though they tasted good, the potency was too hard to judge. I didn't really notice a big change in tolerance though. I got a SSV shortly after that, and haven't really had problems since. My suggestion would be to maybe vape at a lower temp and take smaller, more frequent hits. And drink a lot of water. Or go the tincture route.
