yes I think mine is a year old now, I now I got it in january or so(after christmas and new year)

it's actually kind of a funny coincidence. usually I like dark woods more, or wood that's painted dark(but with grain still showing), for my VG I chose walnut, and with the UD I was looking at dark woods too at first, but then this osage orange appeared, and eventhough it was a lighter wood it just had something, also how the grain shows.
and now eventually I still got my dark wood UD

Hey Underdogette, would you please check and see if Dave has another one of those cables u guys hooked SS up with a few threads back. I'm planning on getting a power supply like he got to use on the pup when I get it.. Did I say please? No rush on the cable tho and thanks so much.

So.... we have added both types of VVPS cords to the site: Lab Style and Tattoo Style, but at the moment, we have turned off ordering on the website. Anyone who needs to order something urgently, please send me or Dave a message, here on FC or on Facebook.

Not to sound like a broken record, but we are still fine tuning the server we just moved to. As you can already see, the site is much faster... We are still doing some server configurations to make it run as best as possible with our website platform.

This has broken both the email addresses that are @underdogvapes.com. The @gmail.com emails are still working just fine.

We expect to get this all taken care of tonight - and if everything goes smoothly, the website and the refresh will be up and running at peak performance tomorrow! I know all you UDs have been waiting so patiently!! Thank you so much for hangin' in there with us!

so what are the general pro's and con's of the AC vs DC set-ups?

What's the odds of that one having a lot of charring???? That ones gotta be the early ones without the insulated core. ?????

D/C setups like the UD can be used with a car adapter (like the one on the website) off the battery, while AC setups would require an inverter.

A/C setups, on the other hand, would not need an A/C to D/C power supply when using your house's current.

I would imagine that D/C setups like the UD would be safer near water. If you dropped a log running on A/C into your bathtub while in it, you'd be fried!

I'm sure I'm missing alot more though.

Ok Dogs, the refresh is FINALLY up.. in all we added just about 30 pieces this time. I would have been up earlier today but we broke the new server and had to restore it before we could proceed.

I think (think being the keyword) we have also resolved our email woes as well.. now I just have to catch up on them. If you've sent an email, an FC message or a 'contact us' message through the site and think that I might not have gotten it (I usually respond to messages in just 1-2 days at most, USUALLY) please feel free to resend it.. I'd rather get it twice than not at all.

For now I'm going to go relax for a bit, it's been a very trying week (or two, or three) before getting back in the saddle and digging into those aforementioned emails and messages.

@ JCruiser - I'll see what I can add to the pros/cons of AC vs DC set-ups but for the most part scottio nailed the most common points. Thanks scottio!

I'm particularly fond of the slim twigs, the bocote, tullip, wild gum and tineo. very nice indeed.

I think the dog makers were up all night. FC members, these guys worked really hard to get their site refreshed not to mention all the issues they had to deal with their server problems. That being said, jump on their site underdogvapes.com and grab your favorite dog. They won't last long.

I really like the bocote twig lost dog, it's gorgeous. I can't tell in the pic what makes it a lost dog. Is just a small scratch? I might have to pick it up.... Edit: is it the crack below the power jack? Will this compromise the integrity of the wood or is it just cosmetic? If it's purely cosmetic I wouldn't mind some character, I just wouldn't want it to crack after a year or two.....

As a side note the way the orange Osage aged is really cool. What other underdog woods take on different characteristics as they age? Can anyone enlighten me?

Nice refresh! IMO this is the coolest group with the most variety I've seen yet. There's even a Dog made from Lignum Vitae!! Lignum Vitae is the hardest, heaviest, most dense wood there is. It is also VERY rare and expensive. Both Black Walnut Dogs and the Rustic Black Oak Dog are g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s! I'm a sucker for dark wood. Hmm...just noticed that I used "sucker" and "wood" in the same sentence.

Greetings all. I've been lurking FC for some weeks, researching vapes, finally joined up a few days ago. After all the research, I decided on a UD as my first vape, ordered one yesterday, really looking forward to trying it out.

I may have a couple of questions when I get it, but I tend to lurk a lot and post very little. Reason I'm posting now is to thank everyone who has contributed here and preemptively answered most of my questions. I appreciate the time you've all spent in sharing your thoughts and experiences with the dogs and with vaping in general. And of course, thanks Dave and Amanda for the great customer service, transparency and honesty.. I rarely see this kind of dedication to answering customers' questions, concerns and problems, and that was a big factor in my decision to give UD a try.

The other reason I'm posting is because there was one question I still had after reading about half of this thread, and the occasionally unpleasant "Adhesives, Insulation and Vape Safety" thread (aka the "materials" thread). I thought I'd share my question and findings here in case anyone else had the same concerns. I'll say ahead of time that I truly hope it doesn't dredge up any negativity, that's not at all what I'd like to see and I'd feel especially bad about "stirring the pot" long after the stew's gone cold.

The question I had was about the high-temp rtv silicone used to seal the .03" gap between the glass bead and the wire coming off of the resistor, whether it was reasonably safe to use in a vape core design like the UD's. As stated a number of times by different posters in the materials thread, "reasonably safe" will mean different things to different users. I decided "food safe" at high temps was my reasonably safe. I don't think twice about eating food baked in silicone loaf pans at 400F, and, while inhaling air that's passed over a bit of heated silicone is different from eating food that's been in contact with heated silicone, I figured "food safe" at ~450+F was about the best assurance I would get that it'd be safe in a vaping application.

Now, I'm assuming that the rtv silicone Dave gave the msds for in the materials thread back in 06/12 is the same silicone he's still using (please correct me if it is not). It's Silite® Silicone RTV (High Temp.), manufactured by ITW Devcon. NSF International has a listing for this silicone, and it's certified for "All food contact types" to a maximum temperature of use of 500F. Here's the listing on their website:

So, for me, that's good enough. I don't have a problem with anything else in the core (stainless steel, the resistor, top half of the glass bead) and I'm not too concerned with anything not in the air path as long as the core remains sealed. I did choose a pup that appears to be a solid piece of wood, though, not a composite, just to limit any potential issues there.


Long post, but I hope anyone else wondering about the very small bit of silicone used to help seal the core can benefit from the info.

So I finally broke down and got some new silicone for my simple glass stems. On account that the only stem I had was turning orange..I picked up a 14 mm wong too.(i hope not 18mm Im so vaked when I order,last night too!) Ive been holding out for a matching set. Dave looked but had nothing. Im ok with it though. Its not really going to be visible when in use anyway..

Hey Puffers - yeah the Bocote Twig was a Lost Dog because of that chip below the power socket.. nothing structural and shouldn't have affected it's function or durability. Someone picked it up almost right away though so adios to that Pup.

Quite a few woods (most really in some way) besides Osage Orange will take on different looks as they age, almost all the time darkening significantly, especially when exposed to heat like in a vape.

@ Slothington - thanks for the long post, you've pretty summed up our feelings exactly. Thanks for taking the time to post it too, it's always nice to add as much to the thread as possible to help answer questions from potential new Dog owners.

Alright Dogs, packaged shipped out for the day.. these new Pups are going fast so I need to get to the shop and start working on some more. It's never ending it seems, I know you guys appreciate the fruits of our labors though so it's all worth it.

::edit:: - Oh, and has anyone noticed how awesome-fast the website is now? Looks like all that annoying server-side work over the last month is finally paying off. 10x faster, more stable, now we can spend more time making Dogs instead of fighting with the website!
