TV Shows - General Discussion

I argued with myself about posting this because I have no idea if I'm into something. This show is called Rick and Morty on adult swim.

I think I can best describe it as a high concept sci-fi show hidden in a usually funny, occasionally heartfelt, and always irreverent cartoon. What drew me in was its originality. On a second watching, I very much appreciated its cleverness.

I might be selling it too hard, but if you liked Futurama and can stand a little zanyness, give it a shot.

I go where the thrills are
So IFC just ran a marathon on the full 3 seasons of Orphan Black which was originally on the BBC. I DVR'd all of them and just watched the pilot. Pretty damn good show.

There have only been two seasons so far...season 3 just started last night.

Yeah it's a very cool show, with a very surprising series of plot twists. It's not perfect and production-wise it screams "Canadian TV" (Matt Frewer doesn't help! :p) but it's a hell of a ride and the lead actress is great.

Now if I can only remember what the hell happened in the first two seasons I can start season 3 with minimal confusion....

I can't my head round Orphan Black - Don't know who's who, who's pretending to be who or what the f*** is going on. And season 3 is even more confusing. Have decided to knock it on the head, load up the Ascent and watch Rick & Morty instead (respect Slick).

You have to roll with it. It's messy, plot-wise, and I find myself asking all kinds of questions in Season 3 (like "what the fuck did Dyad think Paul was doing all that time?" or whatever). It has all kinds of holes.

But that's not really the point. It's a wild, roller-coaster, freewheeling, acting and action tour de force, more about the adrenaline rush of the forward motion (and the amazing performances) than it is about keeping all the plot bits straight. Not that it hurts to follow it...but like a nice piece of sausage, you don't wanna look too closely....

Yes if you enjoy sausage, you should definitely avoid seeing how it's made.

I'm enjoying s1 of orphan black, but agree that you can't get too wrapped up in the details.

Big Brother is a blast. It's not summer at our house without BB.

Don't know if you've been keeping up with BBCAN, but one of the houseguests this season is a "Hemployee" at a Vapor Lounge in Toronto. Her gameplay aside, I've enjoyed listening to her explain to her weedignorant houseguests how she dislikes dabs because they are too much or explaining how hash is made or about the Volcano. I get a bigger kick out of a lack of knowledge from the others I guess, but still enjoy her as a contestant and think its cool they got someone with a marijuana background on the show.

The season as a whole has been kind of lackluster, but still somewhat enjoyable. Just depends on what you're looking for. Not many blindsides or really heavy gameplay to shake up the house, but there was a bit of a shake up 2 weeks ago; easily the best week of the season. Just seems to me like a few of the houseguests clearly outmatch the other's in terms of strategic intellect, which can be boring, but also enjoyable if you like seeing someone outclass the others.

For what it's worth, it's not BB16.

Other then that, haven't been watching much. Survivor this season is good; not as hyped as Jeff Probst made it out to be, but it's been enjoyable. Better then last season. I tried getting into Daredevil on Netflix as I heard it was very good, but frankly, I'm just not a fan of the DD character and I found it hard to get into it. Also was very high and passed out immediately into watching it; could be I was just that tired but it didn't grip me enough to keep me up either.

Been meaning to watch Season 4 of GoT, but I read the books so I'm in no rush, may just wait til they're all out and binge them on a day. Looking forward to True Detective S2, and that's really it. Playoff hockey and bball too.

Do we even get that in the U.S.? I've never seen it. Trust me, if I can find it, we will watch it!

@mitchgo61 Its actually unavailable in the US, but if you have Chrome you can get the extension Hola Unblocker which makes it seem like your browsing from other countries, set it to Canada and you can watch the episodes online, and the streams are free and able to be watched with a Canadian VPN (What Hola does)

I forget what time it airs live, but Evel Dick has a link to a live stream of the episodes when they air for US viewers. Believe its 7 Sunday, 9 Wednesday and I think Monday or Tuesday night as well.

Oh yeah I meant to add that I think Survivor has been really great this season. It's weird....I find almost all of the players (except for Mike) really unlikeable. And yet, this has been the most surprising and different season in forever.

Once again, alas, the guy from Maine is a big douche.

But you do have Julie Berry <3

I'm with you that the characters are unlikeable, but what characters! Mike, that guy either wins or he'll be back for S31. I'm a Rodney fan though, bro he's frahm Bawstun that's close to Maine, mayne!

Lol. He cracks me up. Playing good too IMO.

iZombie's still a lot of fun. Love the script.

Liv (main character zombie) sees a bunch of dead rats in the lab with their skulls crushed in and their brains missing and she says, under her breath with a heavy English accent....."The Lannisters send their regards......"

Tonight Sunday June 7. Dateline had programming about cannabis, 60 Minutes and CNN has had a series about cannabis called High Profits ongoing - 3 separate channels, wow things are changing. Now they are in competition with each other.
