Here are my party favors for tonight: :) ~Truffles~ :) first time & will do again, they are very good.

Started with extremely strong unsalted cannabutter:

fovmh.jpg

I do the water/crockpot/butter method, so taste is minimal/none in end product. This stuff was dark and 1/8 tsp straight was enough to make me feel good but not overpowering, so I called that a dose.

Tip: Always get a calibration on your potency before cooking.. Get the dose figured out, then build the recipe around that. If my butter were weaker, Id be making brownies, or shrimp scampi or something that calls for a lot of butter per serving, relatively speaking. Since it was potent- I can make something that calls for much less butter. You want to know about how much to ingest to get you the effect you want.

Heres the recipe. Soo easy, so fast. Basic chocolate ganache.
Makes about 40-60 pieces, depending on how big & strong you like them. I ended up cutting mine in half from the first round since I thought they may be bit too potent for some folks, plus you cant just eat one!

12oz good chocolate, chopped. 60-70% cocoa is best. Dont use Hersheys, or that sort.
I used 2 60% Ghirardelli baking bars, and 1 semi-sweet. You can go darker or more milk, whatever your tastes. The better the chocolate the better the end result.

3/4C heavy cream

1 T plus 2 tsp (40 doses)* extra-super duper strength cannabutter

*you will need to adjust the butter/cream amounts for the potency of your butter. I would not use more than 2T of butter in this recipe for chocolates; theyd be too soft unless you reduced the amount of cream. Im dipping these in chocolate, so I want them softer. You want to keep a ratio about 2:1 chocolate to cream for firmness. So 16oz chocolate = 1C cream.

Mix the butter and cream in a pot on the stove and bring to just a simmer & shut off heat:

ejtr38.jpg

Pour 1/3 of the hot cream over chopped chocolate that you have in a mixing bowl and wait for a few mins:

1zf5s2q.jpg

Stir a bit, pour more cream and repeat till its all melted and smooth. Dont panic if it looks gloopy, it all comes together nicely at the end:

akbx4y.jpg

Place this in your fridge for at least 3 hours or overnight, till good and firm.

Best to wear latex gloves if you can for this next step- it just makes it easier especially if you have warm hands.

Measure out the amount you want with a teaspoon or by cutting it into chunks ala fudge and roll between your hands to a nice round marble and repeat till all the chocolate play-doh is gone:

v5g95g.jpg

29xj785.jpg

Work quickly if its warm in your kitchen, or stick the ganache back in the fridge.

Now, you can plop these in some cocoa powder/powdered sugar, it will stick nicely to the surface and create the traditional truffle, or you can play with melted tempered chocolate and coat them in a thin shell like I did. Not going to type up that procedure, you can google that. It takes some trial and error..

2h3d860.jpg

You can flavor these with any number of things, Liqueurs, extracts, steeping things like citrus peel & spices in that cream on the stovetop before adding it to the chocolate. Lots of recipes online to play with.

I try to make sweets strong enough that one will give you a nice mellow buzz, 2 for good nhigh, 3 and you may drift away from the crowd for a bit, 4 and youd need a lie-down. This is just based on my tolerance. These came out perfect.

They are very tasty and smooth, not overly sweet. Because of the dark chocolate, they dont have but the faintest hint of herb. Cant taste it at all when its cold!

Store in a cool place or the fridge tightly sealed and use within a few weeks.

Wow I really like this candy recipe, seems easy enough and delicious. I've got a few grams of hash oil left I was going to use to make capsules, but I'm going to give this a try instead. I can't stand the taste of edibles, even with mild taste. But I'd imagine this with oil has to be tasteless. I like to use coconut oil instead of butter, but it comes out very potent with my hash. Would I be able to use coconut oil in this recipe or should I stick to the clarified butter?

If you are using hash oil, you can omit the butter part. Just add the hash oil to the cream. If it's not active, you may want to simmer it in the cream for 15 mins or so. Not familiar with eating hash oil myself. I believe that coconut oil would make it even slightly more soft than the butter does, but no reason you can't use it if you want to. I'd skip it though.

Most traditional truffle/ganache reccs don't include butter, just chocolate, cream and any flavors. I used butter in this because that's what I had on hand. It makes it softer, but I dipped them and prefer softer truffles. You can adjust the chocolate/cream ratio for firmness.
They are very, very yummy. :D

Holy shit!! Why didn't I come trick or treating at your house?? LMAO!!

Seriously, they look beautiful! Thanks for sharing! I think I could make these!! Of course, then I'd have to explain to my son why I couldn't share them :D

Looking forward to seeing what else comes out of your kitchen!!

Wow indigal, those look just as good as you would buy from a chocolaterie. I really like your ganache idea vs the traditional cocoa powder. Do you have any ideas for MJ chocolate covered cherries?

I've never made them, but I'm sure I can make them with extra-stoneyness!
Here's one recipe I found, but they all seem to include butter/margarine and condensed milk. I'd use strong cannabutter in place of the regular stuff.

If I ever try them, I will have my camera ready, it was fun documenting it. :D

I find cannabutter made by boiling water & butter is not strong flavored so it can go fairly unnoticed in most foods.

It was a fun Halloween last night with friends, and the balls were a hit. I ended up having 4 over the evening and waking up this morning at 6:30 still buzzed. Went back to sleep easily! Slugabed day. :)

Were your friends suprised? or are they used to you making things like this?

I have only tried making edibles once, they worked but tasted terrible. This was at a time before I knew about "cannabutter" or "hash oil", back then when you made brownies, you made them with the whole buds.
The idea of using extracts seems great, I would love some almond or orange chocolate.

They are kind of used to it. ;)
But the chocolates were the best I've ever made, hands down. I made enough to give several friends goodie bags of 6 pieces ea. I see Xmas presents this year.

Here's a pic of some accidentally overdosed brownies I made for a big cabin/camping trip. I didn't mean for them to come out that strong. From that point on, I've played guinea pig and checked before cooking.

20hpzr5.jpg

I had to cut each little pan into 40 brownies, and they were still strong.
Told a friend who has a high tolerance that 1.5 would likely do it for him, he ate three. Later he was raving to me how I "rocked his world" then he disappeared for a nap for about 2 hours. :ko:

My first edibles came out nasty too- I did the butter, ground weed, into treats, Icky.
Then I did the butter, weed, strain, still kinda icky. Then finally tried cannabutter: success! :D

I now have a kief screen, and am thinking about adding my unpressed kief to some foodie things. Always experimenting.

So, does hash oil have a strong taste? Does it need heating, I'm assuming it's not active straight up?

Never tried making BHO or that type. Between vaping, ABV stuff, kief, green dragon and cannabutter- I've got more than I can use and still be functional.

Nice treats there man...you think you could share your cannabutter-making recipe. Every time I've tried edibles, whether it be firecrackers, brownies, etc., they just haven't been effective, even following directions to the point. I've used a crock pot, stove top, but it's always a let down...maybe it's my oven...

My amounts always vary by what I have in the house.. the super-strong batch wasn't even measured. It was a large mason jar packed full of very high quality dried trim and old odds and ends of bud (oz plus overall at least.) Filled large crockpot with filtered water, added jar of herb, and stick of butter (or stick and a half?- it's been a while.) Turned on high and boiled for 2-3 hours.

I only was able to recover about 4Tb of dark green butter. The rest was all still in the herb!

But, that's the recipe as it were.

I did end up salvaging what was left in the herb, and will be posting that idea later as it works very well. I have another batch of butter to make in the coming months, so I'll prob wait and do another post with pics then..

Chocolate's look amazing, i need to do that one day soon.

With the cannabutter recipe, can you use ABV? And just so I understand it, since I have a crock pot which I have never used (this would be a great recipe to break it in with), you simply add water, butter, MJ, boil for a while, and you're set? No straining? Thanks!

karazi,

Yes, you can use ABV, I have not- but plan to in the future.
Yep, I fill my crockpot up, add lots of MJ and my butter- but you do need to strain it afterwards- or use cheesecloth or nylons and squeeze out the goodies. There plenty of great recipes online that give basic guides to how much to use.. but it's fairly simple.

Edit : Sorry for bad spelling and grammar , I did try . :(

You have inspired me to try my hand at making ABV Peanut Butter Balls .

This was done with ABV from mid grade , so if your doing this with mid to good stuff , 60 grams is way WAY TOO much , I like to get fucked up and I think if I had eaten like 6 balls it would have been too much ( maybe not , I'll see :D ) I'm just saying if its your first time don't just jump in nuts deep .

I started with 60 grams of golden to very light bown ABV , I used a mortar and pestal to grind it down as fine as I could do ( I'm lookin for a flour mill to try ) .

I then added the ABV flour to 1 cup of JIF peanut bettur + a table spoon of vanilla extract , mixed that realy well .

I then added just enough powdered sugar to make the PB & ABV mix into more dough like and able to be rolled into balls . I only used enough powdered sugar to dry it up , but next time I will add alot more powdered sugar even if I have to add oil or butter as to not make it to dry ( if that is possible ) .

I rolled the dough into balls and covered with melted hershey chocolate bars , that worked but the chocolate is very soft . I'll be lookin more into the chocolate coating part .

So with 60g of ABV I got 45 balls ( around 1.3 grams per )

I eat 3 on a empty stomach and was blitzed for like 3 full hours , Im talking one droopy eye and everything , eyes so red it looked like pink eye . It was almost enough to make me have a nap .

Its been about 5 hours sense eating the balls and I have eaten some fast food about 1 hour ago , and I still have a nice little buzz that is starting to wear down .

I made some abv brownies befor but I must have cooked it to hot cause I could eat a few brownies ( had like six the one night ) and not get the buzz I get from just a couple of these things .

I was just winging this stuff so if I change anything on the next batch I'll try and add it here . I will use more powdered sugar in the dough next time , I tried to go the healthy way but shit you only eat a couple . And the chocolate coating was not right , so I wouldn't just melt hershey bars .

:peace:

Nothing new from me, but I did attend a post-thanksgiving party where cannabutter was used with abandon.
Best dish hands down: sweet potato casserole. I'm sure extra butter was used since it was veeeery strong. Something about the flavor of the cannabutter with the sweet-crunchy brown-sugar topping really worked. There was also: green butter basted rolls, spiked gravy, canna rice krispy treats, mashed potatoes.. all dosed. Sitting next to their innocent look-alikes. As the evening progressed, things did get slightly confused for some, leading to some accidentally too stoned moments. Even though we both had weed-hangovers Sunday, it was a nice time!

Here's something that only comes around once a year for me- Girl Scout Cookies!!
My husband named this little snack Suicide Girl Scout Cookies.

vq6ucj.jpg

Make this: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/dulce-de-leche-recipe/index.html
When you are done making cannabutter with the water method that sock of butter and waterlogged goodness that you've squeezed everything you can outta, well.. it still has some goodies left to give. Plop it in the warmed milk and squeeze, a lot. Till the milk turns green. It will have little droplets of green butter floating in it and the milk will be greenish.. Squeeze some more just because it feels good.

Follow Altons guidelines, tho I don't like mine as sweet- so I used more milk and less sugar.. it's a very forgiving recipe. I have more than a mason jar of strong dulce de leche. One cookie topped with this is a nice high. So, maybe about 1 tsp or so. Keeps very well in the freezer- the one on my cutting board here is about a year old and still strong & tasty. This stuff has such a great flavor it's hard not to over-do it.. Dulce can be used in so many tasty ways, dosing is good with this. Had one just now. Couldn't just take pics. :)

Someday I *will* make some more treats and take pics.. Just still trying to use the edibles I have in the house..

I really appreciate your posting these recipes. The truffles and the dulce look amazing. I know you said you haven't tried using ABV, but I would be interested in hearing of any difference in strength that you noticed. I can't imagine it would be as strong as unvaped bud/clippinging, etc.

That said, a friend of mine made some special rice krispy treats with cannabutter made with ABV and they were very strong. He did no measuring and put most of the butter in the recipe (from ABV he'd been saving for a year). What I'm trying to say is that the ratio of ABV to butter was pretty heavy. After he and a friend ate a good sized "treat" they took a walk, came back, and fell asleep for 8 hours. At one point, I thought I should go check they're breathing!

Anyway, one of the things (besides the health benefits of not combusting) that drew me to buying a vape was the fact that you can use the ABV for cooking. Such a bonus. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your recipes and advice, as well as hopefully contributing some of my own.

One more question....

What size crock pot are you using; and do you use equal parts butter to herb?

Thanks!

Hi! I haven't been around for a few days- so just spotted your posts!

I have tried swampwater with ABV from my PD & Iolite- it is much less potent than green dragon with fresh- so I'd imagine ABV treats would be as well.

I still have so much butter- mine & a present from someone else- that I haven't needed to make more yet. After doing the swampwater everclear thing with ABV- I think I may stick with using my ABV that way & just cook w/ fresh. ABV gives me a downer effect- tho that wouldn't be bad in a night-time snack & I may attempt it next time I get enough ABV collected.

Next time I make butter, I will document the weights & process with pics. In the past- every batch I've made was different which led to some seriously over-strong treats (the skull & cross bone brownies). I test everything now before giving it away. I tend to save my shake, trimmings and just stuff that doesn't knock my socks off for cooking. I do try to make the butter as strong as I can, so I can add just what I need to food I'm making and get an effect with less butter overall- like the truffles- that butter was incredibly strong. With ABV- I'd likely use at least 3-4x the amount I use green to get close to the same & I think the ABV would disintegrate during the process making it had to get a clean product- fresh holds together well and can be more easily strained out.

Last time I made fresh butter- I used a pint jar of odds & ends in a 6.5 quart slow cooker (it's the large oval one, big enough to cook a whole chicken.) Filled with water and I only added a stick & half of unsalted butter- should have used maybe 2.5 considering how much got absorbed into the plant material, but no regrets- still made that butter for the truffles (& I still have some of the butter left.)

The leftover waterlogged weed I put into a stocking and into a pot of milk to make the dulce since there was so much green butter trapped in the plant mush. I will always do this anytime I make butter from now on, need to use whole milk, or milk with some half & half for the fat. Sorry- long winded posts are my norm.. :p

Thanks for the info. I'll look forward to seeing your pics.

I guess the best way for me to find out how this is going to work out is to jump right in. :p I have about an ounce of ABV right now. I'll probably wait until I have 2 and try making the butter. Straining it in a nylon is a great idea and one I'll definately use. The coffee filter method just absorbs too much and plus you can't use it for the dulce then. I'm really looking forward to trying this.

Please post any new recipes you try. You definitely have the most creative I've seen so far.

Use a double layer of stockings when you do the dulce. I popped my one layer thingie with the squeezing and all..
Yep- jumping in and doing it is the only way to go- a tip: test the butter straight- 1/4, 1/2, 1, 1.5 tsp- just get the dose down and figure the recipe around it. A little math saves you some disappointments /white knuckle nights.. oh, and always play guinea pig at night or when you have nothing to do!

Here is my recipe for making hard candies

First make the tincture from above...

- - - - - - - -What you will need - - - - - - - -

2 cups granulated sugar

2/3 cup light corn syrup

3/4 cup water

1 tsp. (1 dram)Flavoring

1 - 1.5 oz Tincture ( depending how strong you want it)

1/4 tsp. coloring

Candy Thermometer

- - - - - - - - How To Do It - - - - - - - -

In a large saucepan, mix together sugar, corn syrup and water. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Bring mixture to a boil without stirring. When syrup temperature reaches 260o F, add color. Do not stir; boiling action will incorporate color into syrup. Remove from heat at 300o F or when drops of syrup form hard brittle threads in cold water. (Temperature will continue to rise after removing from heat, so remove precisely at 300o F). After boiling action ceases, add flavoring , tincture and stir. USE CAUTION WHEN ADDING FLAVORING AND TINCTURE TO AVOID RISING STEAM. Pour into lightly oiled [vegetable oil] candy molds (not chocolate molds), or onto greased cookie sheet and score to mark squares. When cool, unmold or break into pieces. You can also dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking. Store in airtight containers.

**Note** I waffle between adding the tincture when adding the coloring (during the boil hard tack stage) and adding the tincture when adding the flavor. I haven't noticed one way as better than the other but I think the liquid evaporates faster when adding the tincture in the hard tack stage.

2 pieces about 1/2" square will take care of most needs. Bear in mind it will come on slower, hit you harder and last longer. Happy Baking!
