@invisiblefriend I would love to see that video.

Still having trouble unfortunately. Still getting a lot of oil in the lower chamber. I am pausing to cool between hits. Not holding the button too long. Also getting oil splashing up into the screen. I suppose that's from inhaling too hard? Not sure what I'm doing wrong... I end up having to clean the whole thing between loads.
Drawing between hits is good, but necessary only if you are letting it sit for more than a few seconds. A draw technique where you let off the button quite a while before your lungs fill up is usually what does the trick for me. The instructions say "for a 30 second inhale, 15 seconds on, and 15 seconds off" that's a good place to start. Or cut those times in half if you want a smaller hit.

The biggest problem usually is the end-of-session cool down. You need to cool down the herc to get the oil to solidify so that it doesn't run down into the lower chamber. Draw on it gently after your last hit for a few good pulls. If you want to pull off the black PTFE shield after a few of those and check the temperature just above the seam where the lower chamber and upper chamber meet- Where it's the hottest - That's the part that needs to get cooled back down to near room temperature by doing cool down draws. Pop the cap and mouthpiece back on and continue doing cool down draws until it's cool! Once you get a feel for it, you won't need to take the shield off, you'll know when it's cooled down. If you're storing the Herc in a warm environment, make sure to store it on its side.

So what is the benefit to adding the okeanos upgrade? I checked out the okeanos instructions, but I'm just not sure exactly how the longer bottom tube and updated center post change it.

So IF I get my oil coil today, my next question is how can I get replacements for my 3 v1 tops I have now?

Because it feels like those are all going to fry and need to be replaced, but that hurry up and wait for v4 tops. No other tops besides the hammer are sold on the site. Makes me wondering if I want to even gamble on it.

I can't decide what I want, but I'm sick of tinkering and all the effort. Hell might stick to bud until something appeals to me more. I'm not ready for the herc and the herc isn't ready for me I don't think.

From my experience, I would suggest the hammer top, it's a good alternative, but you need to be careful with the locking button...

Your only other option would be the $60 warranty thingy but since there's no v4 tops yet I wouldn't suggest it

@darkrom I got into a Persei almost the same time as you (another TET refugee) but I went with current gen stuff and have been seeing nothing but success. Hopefully you can get the support you need.

I probably would have got some UP stuff sooner but I always got the impression that it was too much work, required too much maintenance, or that it's only intended for a certain kind of "enthusiast". I was also always discouraged by the idea that I'd be spending hundreds of dollars on something that would be obsolete in a matter of weeks.

While I did do a lot of reading before buying anything, everything has just worked without requiring any excessive tinkering. I also don't feel like I need to upgrade immediately or buy a bunch more accessories in order to get good use out of what I already have. If anything, I feel like I got in at a pretty ideal time as I can just relax and enjoy the current gen stuff while all the kinks get worked out in the next. Even though I may not really need to, I'll have good options for upgrades down the road if I want them.

@coffinoff Thanks. I'll try to stick with it, I'm just horrified because IF something goes wrong, everything is still waiting for the new tops. Not to mention I don't have ANY cash left to buy a new top or additional warranty in the first place :/

This is my biggest issue though is the final stuff still "about to come out". I have my oil coil sitting in my hands right now. I can't decide if I want to use it or not. Lets say I use the persei and love it, I'll get more stuff from W9 as its out and invest the time and learning (and money!) into playing catch up and keeping up. But what happens if I throw this oil coil in and fry my top? I can't buy the V4 since its not out. I can't buy the V3 which is about to be redundant. The $60 hammer top is expensive.

I could spend $65 to have either of these persei's sent in and warrantied, and probably will with my old black one, but like @Mynameismud mentioned its still a bad time since then I'll get a V3 that I'll just want to upgrade to later.

Buyers remorse is possible to do often with always changing stuff. I always feel like I need something at JUST the wrong time when it comes to my W9 gear. I'm sure V3 tops are much better than my V1, but those aren't available either.

Its almost like I'm in a situation where its likely to fail on the V1 tops, but I honestly have no good options, so do I even try using the thing?

EDIT: Due to the nature of the herc being cleanable, I guess I can give it a go right? I threw the coil in and tried to burn it clean for a couple min. Still doesn't smell too swell. Anyone want to give me tips on how to load a brand new herc SR74 before I ruin another new cart lol?

The hammer top is $40

The only difference between the V3 & v4 tops is the hammer top function & a touch sensitive button (i believe). Since you don't want the herc tho, i would suggest that you switch to a variant of the Omicron (Omicron, Omicron lite, Minicron, etc). Pretty pointless to have a persei if you're only gonna use 3.7v

Edit: Just wanted to add that if you manage to ruin the herc, I will personally give you a refund. (Jk, I have zero association with uptech except for being a fanboy)

Just stick your concentrate on top of coil and slightly press down on it while pulsing button. I was able to assemble my herc and use it within 15 minutes and I never read any guides or watched any videos. It's not rocket science

Thanks, but you got lucky or know more about ecig stuff IMO. How much do I load? I believe I saw 0.4g to start?

I don't know why but I always feel comfortable experimenting with vapes, but the W9 stuff is too high power or something because its the only vape I've ever fried. The EO wasn't rocket science either, it was very easy to fill. But not asking for tips to fill it lead to me wasting the better part of a gram in a cart that tastes like ass now.

Heres to filling the herc I guess!

Make sure you load about .4 to get the coil nice and saturated, then another .2 to start.

If you are hesitant always do long cool down periods to start with then youll fine tune your technique from there.

The Hercules is pretty simple to operate. Load .4 once to get the coils going and then keep loading as the vapor dies down.

Make sure to cool down the Herc after hits and your good to go.

@starchild are you using the 7.4v? or 3.7v?

Thanks. I swear I want to love your shit, it just makes me nervous due to all the room for error.

I was able to load the .4g and it gave an amazing flavor on the cool down taste, so thats great news.

I'm sure I'll love the thing, but the learning curve was beyond steep. I'm on a lunch break and can't be ripping the herc, so I'll try it out later. The first taste test was VERY positive though. I might even be one of the weirdos who prefers the herc at 3.7v when all is said and done.

I'm actually really excited to hit the herc tonight. How does it do on consumption of oil? For me a 0.03g dab is a nice solid dab, so I'm hoping it doesn't suck oil by default, only if you make it?

I'm definitely more encouraged to keep going after finally tasting something good lol. Its not my ideal, but I'm going to make it work. Hopefully I can really learn the herc itself and figure out which parts are good to have as spares. Ideally I'll be able to get the 8 sooner than later and keep it mechanical and simple.

Boss man, only way to get it to work the way you want it is to get your hands dirty.

Load it up .6 max with a new coil, and just work it.

all you have to do is cool it down thats all.

The Hercules does not waste oil, and will not vaporize more then what you need.

In fact.

The Hercules is the only cartridge in the world where you can recover all your oil. All of it. It is the most conservative when it comes to vaping your oil.

Rule of thumb is: if you didnt vape it, its inside somewhere. You cant lose oil in the Herc.

I need to wait till I'm home to try it. First ceramic nail came today too, but that has to wait. Herc first.

I didn't mean waste oil, I guess I meant "encourage rapid consumption". Like the volcano encourages you to rip through herbs because of the large chamber. Its not inefficient, but its not a good conservation vape either IMO. I guess I'll find out with the herc. After that good flavor I'm down to keep on fighting the good fight. I know its at least capable of wonderful flavor.

If a top fries I'll use the other one until I can warranty it for a V4. If they both fry, then I'll be pretty bummed.

What is involved in switching to a 3.7v herc setup? Literally unscrew the rod slide it out and put in a different ceramic rod? If so I'll try out the 3.7. I know most don't get the results they want with the lower voltage, but I'm pretty good at the low power vaping on other vapes so I think I'd pick it up. We will see.

I feel like there are a lot of pieces inside the herc to have to learn still, but in its assembled form it loaded that oil pretty easily.

That's not the only difference between the v3 and v4 tops...the v3 top had a bad center pin or something like that. I could barely use it with any cartridge, herc or kiss or even TV dart... Instead of misfiring like the v2 top and working occasionally mine didn't really work at all...

I thought I was crazy and I'm pretty sure G did too until I sent it back to him, which I believe led to the improvements and hence the v4 top

Happy to say that in use the herc is intuitive. Only two or three very light hits so far but amazing flavor. Definitely glad I took on the confusion, and I'll have to force myself to REALLY learn the herc once I kill this oil out of it so I can practice rebuilding and cleaning it.

The flavor so far was worth the effort confusion and all the problems along the way. I'm VERY happy to not be bitching for once.

I think this thing with the 8 will be the way to go, but I'll make my 2 persei's get it done in the meantime.
