I think I need new orings for my nibbler. Most of my thick ones that seal well are starting to rip :(

And I have terrible luck with pulling my top cap off in the nibbler. Thinking of just leaving it stuck in the end and screwing the her into it from there.

Lubricate the orings with mineral oil or something and use a twisting motion while either pushing or pulling the glass on/off.

:2c: I have to disagree with @SamuraiSam about heating the Herc. When I heat the reclaim chamber I am getting it no hotter than it gets during normal use. Just enough heat to liquify the oil. I surmise that if heating the chamber (as much heat as I am applying) is dangerous or damaging, then so is using it normally.
You surmise based on Temperature but that is only one factor. The interaction of the gas you're burning with the metal in and of itself causes problems. Just as you should never heat Ti with propane you shouldn't heat stainless with butane.

I'd also be interested in any info on harmful reaction from stainless and any propellants I can't find any info other than stainless starts to off gas around 3600f

I've worked a lot with metals doing foundry casting forging making tools knives shields machine parts I don't recall being warned about any bad interactions with stainless short of welding

I'd be willing to bet their not heating the Hercules body enough to off gas but can't find any info on either propane or butane leeching anything from stainless

last i checked co2 and h20 played fairly well with stainless steel, which is overwhelming the leftovers of a torch lighter

This is news to me. Do you have citations for this information? I'd like to read up on it.
Nope but it was earlier in this thread so shouldn't be too hard to find. No idea what page number.

I believe a member posted that G had recommended to not torch the chambers and the member had bought new ones to replace the ones he'd torched.

Personally I used a small torch lighter on mine a few times until I read that!

I hit the chambers with a little torch zippo. The trick is to keep the flame way back, so it just warms the oil for reclaim or cleaning. Just enough warmth to get the oil to run. Not like torching a nail at all.

Edit:: looked it up. SS melts at 2750F. Titanium melts at just a few degrees more.

Heat is how it got there, heat is how I'm gonna get it out. I refuse to believe that butane actually reacts with the stainless. Butane cannot escape the flame.

So is a kiss with the lighter to pour out reclaim as harmless as filling an Omicron cart?

If the kiss carts broken just take apart and ISO wash.

If you just want to empty the reclaim out just have it under the sun and everything will melt out. No need for lighter, but if in a hurry then light use of the lighter is ok.

Hairdryer is cheaper.
Hairdryer moves air WAY faster, someone was complaining about dust before- hairdyer is the worst thing for that.

I use my gun for heatshrink so not all is lost. I do a lot of marine electrical work so I needed a good gun for the pre-heatshrinked adhesive lined terminals. Having multiple fan settings is really nice. I tape some dryer vent filter material over the air inlet on the gun so my heat gun doesn't blow dust into my oil chamber.

Crumbles, waxes, putties- anything that sticks to the side wall is very easily fixed with my gun on a low setting low fan and so much easier then using a torch. I'll never torch the Herc again.

What method do you recommend for during winter temps? I'm in CA so that method would work most of the time. But folks in Canada... put it in front of a car's inside heater vent?

Substitute sun with hot electronics, Or lamp, near heat when cooking.

Something that can be left alone and your not using extra energy to accomplish.

I was talking about gently heating the Herc reclaim chamber to pour reclaim back into top chamber. Similar to loading omicron carts.

I've been leaving my kiss carts beside my laptop! I'm always on the computer, its always hot!
It works well enough for me.
I even put my dab containers there when I want a little more of a oily substance to work with.

IIRC he was bitching about discoloration of the metal.
Member was @Mynameismud. I think that he will agree with @SamuraiSam :)

@DieHard and @Caligula are both right. I used a torch on my upper chamber a few times. Very shortly and moving it around the entire time just to get all the run up oil back down and clean it up a bit. I noticed the thing discolored completely and also altered the taste (possibly in my head) I mentioned it I G and he specifically said DO NOT use a torch on the chambers. SS is not meant to be torched and to not do it again. He did say it should be fine to use still but I got a new upper chamber just to be safe. I now use a hair dryer doesn't work as fast but gets the job done

Hi, I tried this morning my TV evo 6V in my Persei, I put into 2xrcr123a and attached the cart with an adaptater, it seems to work a little bit colder than with the TV tube but I can get nice tasty clouds but I'm afraid for the Persei cause the cart becomes very hot and Persei top too so I stopped my test cause I don't want to injury my Persei!
Do you think too hot persei top could be an issue?

If I can to use it it will be nice cause I can carry my persei+hercule+TV evo and all my needs will be covered

Am I mistaken, or isn't that the method used to fill the 2.4 & 5 ohm older style carts?
Why would it be ok to use the SS funnels to fill up the SS carts, but not to heat up the Hercules SS chamber, or the Kiss carts for that matter?

If your getting discoloration your probably holding the flame too close.

I still use my old style carts, and I hold the tip of the torch lighter flame about an inch and a half to two inches away. They aren't stained. If you hold a torch lighter close enough to stain, wouldn't you think you would be burning the oil as well? It gets plenty hot an inch or two away from the tip of the flame to heat without burning I would think.....

I was just reading through this and thought I'd throw my :2c: in.

I'm no expert with oil, yet.:D
So its as much of a question as a statement.:)

Hey guys who have ran reclaim through your hercules:

do you do anything before putting quality wax in there for the sake of flavor? Do I need to like fully clean my TI coil and everything to keep it from tasting like booty? or can i just proceed as usual on top of my coil and the flavor will work itself out?
