The Herbalizer

I gotta say this device looks to be a real change in the way we're going to be medicating in the future. If the company is really setting themselves up active members in herbology I'm incredibly interested. I've worked on and off with naturopaths and herbologists for the last 10 or so years and this device has re-sparked a real interest in herbology in general. How cool would it be to be apart of the forefront on a new way to medicate not only with MMJ but other herbs. Its been something that has intrigued me since my first vaporizer purchase but I don't believe we have enough user studies to really know what temps work best for each herb.

It'd be great to have a device thats also being used in that field so we can start to see customer research online. Since a lot of governments and agencies are really coming down on herbal supplements all over the world this device would allow you to get quick quick relief from herbs grown in your own garden or ordered in bulk online.

The precise temperature control is what intrigues me most on this device. I will say I wish they would give some thought to all of the pieces in the airflow. It sounds like they are using some high temp plastic and thats great but all plastics have off gassing and we're all starting to hear what these things can do to our body. Maybe this is something to consider for a future update - finding a way to get an all glass air path like the cloud. I know for instance one of my relatives cannot be around even tupperware these days due to the offgasing. so it is something I consider now with almost all purchases.

all plastics have off gassing
Everything has a vapor pressure.

It's not like the all plastics have polyphenyl backbones or groups.

Without knowing what the issues are, you can call anything bad, but if you do some investigating, you start sounding less uneducated.

Josh and the team at Herbalizer.com are working like crazy to get the Herbalizer into production (using a local San Diego manufacturing company, setting up assembly lines, and sourcing custom parts still being manufactured). The Mystery Vape Contest (and FC) is a real source of enthusiasm, not just fun but genuinely providing insights into what their business (herbs, culture, and a perfectly engineered vaporizer) is all about. There's no substitute for understanding what vaporizer enthusiasts really want from a high tech vaporizer.

At the end of the day it's your creativity and having fun with the contest that counts (or arguably winning a Herbalizer); there's certainly a lot of content in this thread to use as a reference. Maybe it's just me, but I'm finding your different perspectives truly amazing.

Josh says, "They of course would like to see more messages use the term 'Herbie' and 'herbalize,' and especially messages that relate to how people use its features, and what makes them feel good and happy when playing with Herbie. That would be really helpful. We have really been enjoying all the entries by the FC community in the mystery vape contest. It's going to be really tough to choose the top 10. Perhaps we should let the community decide by liking their favorite posts?

The balloon valve system is pretty neat -- squeeze to open. Nice that it comes with 5. I wonder where the stash box "nests neatly" into the nice round unit. :)

I like this part:
In less than two minutes you can turn it on, load the magnetic herb chamber, use the whip, fill a balloon, set the aromatherapy timer and begin deodorizing the room, and walk away…

looks interesting heat up time sounds nice. i'ma say this in coming in way over the valcono MSRP, depending on the company, it could be 300-900. that'd be my guess sounding from all the bs tech jargin they have around it and "nasa" lol yeah. like you really need that in your advertising, because we all know our nasa engneeers know how to toke. granted they smart people ;) I dont easily believe such hipe, could of been intern drop outs or some stupid shit who finished 2 years of a 6 year program. I don;'t know, thats a little out their.

mod note: Have you read the rules yet? There's one in the Be Nice section that applies here.

Well, I'm all for a more precise, efficient vaping experience. My wallet may not share my view, but...

This looks quite interesting.

Ha, I'm going to enjoy this. First, my son Josh has a master's in electrical engineering and worked doing research in collaboration with MIT for 5 years while employed at Draper Labs. I got him started in his undergraduate work in the engineering program, but he took it from there. Take a look at the website About Us and you can read the resumes. Bob Pratt is the other engineer with a masters in mechanical engineering from UCLA with his undergraduate engineering from UC Berkley, with 25 years experience. Josh and Bob met at Maxwell Technologies, and were key members for development of super computers for NASA programs.

You shouldn't throw stones if you live in a glass house. You should also work on your spelling since you appear to be "a little out their"!

As an accounting student, I'd like to put my opinion out there regarding the "$1 million dollars in research" statement.

That statement does NOT say that they spent a million dollars in research & development. What it does actually say is the value of the R&D done on it is equivalent to a million dollars. Any one of those bright boys can work in the R&D world as consultants, and if they were getting a paycheck for what they've put into this, it would be a million dollars.

Most entrepreneurs do not factor in their R&D costs, unless they can (and have) get paid for R&D.

Have I mentioned that I want one? Yeah. This is terrible.

you can enjoy it but i didnt read it. it was a generic stab, it wasn't really personl. don't take it as such. sorry if you took it that way.

Mod note: We do not allow "generic" stabs at companies any more than we allow "name brand" stabs. I suggest that you take a good look at our rules, which you agreed to when signing up here, before posting again.

A lot of good info here, but how exactly does the Herbalizer compare to the viVape -- apart from the fact that you can turn off the fan? Is the viVape less accurate or less efficient? The Herbalizer sounds great, but I really wish it had a GonG option. At least with the viVape I can ditch the whip and get an all glass air path.

The ViVape is not nearly as accurate temperature wise when in use. Also he will be producing a GonG option that should be available at or around the time of launch.

Nope. Just got to test it out for a bit. Now I am back to waiting like everyone else. ;)
Cool, so what kind of temperature sensor did you use to verify that the production unit was more consistent in temperature than the ViVape?

I assume you used the fan option on both? How did you find similar velocities for each?

This is just form what we've heard from Vtac so far but:

"[The Herbalizer] has multiple temperature sensors with one being in the airstream right underneath the bowl."

And then when compared to the vivape:
"In this photo the pencil is pointing to the viVape's [singular] thermal sensor located at the base of its heater."
eZ79UwE.jpg

Those are the qualitative differences but you're right we haven't seen any quantitative comparison. That's where the proof is so I'm definitely with you in inquiring more.
Makes it all the more unfortunate that the manufacturer won't have an official Representative answering questions like this. Can't say I hold it against them though.

The only mention of quantitative temperature analysis in the Herbalizer testing is (from vtac again):
"This is a graph made with a 16-input USB thermocouple data logger showing real time measurement of the critical components staying cool, and most importantly the hot airflow."
9I5xZoTl.jpg

(Can't really identify what all the different lines are but this is all we've seen)
